Depends on what kind of flying you like to do..  For GA flying, 2024 is really good, and no need to wait.  Quite amazing to go on cross country flights and have great scenery all the way, without buyi

  • I am going to wait a few more months at least until 2024 is settled down, in the mean time 2020 is working great.

Okay I've decided to pull the trigger on 2024, although I'll probably wait until SU2 is out of beta testing.  It's not so much the money but the learning curve of a new flight sim and wanting one that

Um, while you guys are still debating the OP already said a few pages back they were moving forward with '24 and being they are predominantly GA it makes a lot of sense, especially with SU2 coming.

Considering it can be tried for $1 anyone can fortunately try it themselves and write their own review!

Good luck with it!!  Fairly certain you will be blown away how far things have come since P3D, it's pretty mind blowing in 2020 and 2024!

I am rapidly approaching a decision point where maintaining two sims is going to be a hassle.

When the BFU drops for the Fenix, the 2020 liveries will no longer work in 2024. They will need to be updated. The same when the native versions of the T7 release in a month or so.

What is undecided is which way I'll lean. My gut feeling at that point is to just roll with 24. The hard part is going to be the long wait for any 737 in 2024. I have not found the Asobo MAX to spark joy.

Amen psolk.  People from New Jersey are so logical, we just talk kind of funny😉 North Jersey they talk like they're from the Bronx, South Jersey we talk like Rocky Balboa, Central Jersey you guys talk fairly normal.

Being the OP, I'm going upstairs right now and install it on my desktop🎆

Have to admit, I've been entertained by all the strong opinions and of course the occasional snarkisms.

So far, there is nothing exceptional about 2024 that would trigger me to switch. Newest 9950x3d in a combination with 5070Ti and 64GB does magic in MSFS2020 out of the box at 1440p. INI KJFK with TLOD 150/OLOD 200, 130 AI planes via PSXT, Fenix, Active Sky = stable 60FPS.

It's rather like P3Dv4 > P3Dv5 transition. I will switch eventually for sure, but not now. Let SP4 be released and perhaps this would be the time 🙂 In the meantime, I'm not in a hurry.

For anyone moving from P3D, you should move straight into the newest product (MSFS2024), no doubts here. First 3-4 months will be a learning curve regardless of the sim you choose, especially if you have never tried MSFS platform.

Okay, bought and downloaded.  Haven't had a chance to delve into it yet, maybe later today/tonight.

Have high hopes.  Curious, does 2024 upgrade SUs automatically or will I need to manual execute it?

Thanks

You will automatically get Sim Update 1 when you install MSFS 2024. Since you are new to MSFS 2024, I would stay out of the SU2 beta, especially if you value stability.

Just wait for the SU2 to be released officially. My guess is, it will probably release in the next several weeks.

Thanks for the advice.  Will do what you suggest for now.

As noted, the sim will update automatically..  One thing I would recommend as a new user, is to download the freeware Addons Linker and use it to install the many freeware (and payware) addons that you will get over time.

It helps a lot to organize your addons and gives you options as to where you want to store them, like on a separate SSD drive for example.

Another tip:   MSFS2024 will start you outside of the cockpit.  Use SHIFT-C to get yourself into the cockpit.

Or, initially, start up on a runway... That puts you in the cockpit with engines running. 😉

I think we're days rather than weeks away now....

I'm curious, does this Shift-C mean you no longer have to walk around and take off covers etc.?
