MS2024, worth it at this time or wait?

I'm curious, does this Shift-C mean you no longer have to walk around and take off covers etc.?

I don't fly default airplanes in that sim (very very rarely) but I think you still need to take off covers etc.  unless you start on the runway as Bert mentions

Depends on what kind of flying you like to do..  For GA flying, 2024 is really good, and no need to wait.  Quite amazing to go on cross country flights and have great scenery all the way, without buyi

  • I am going to wait a few more months at least until 2024 is settled down, in the mean time 2020 is working great.

Okay I've decided to pull the trigger on 2024, although I'll probably wait until SU2 is out of beta testing.  It's not so much the money but the learning curve of a new flight sim and wanting one that

In the latest beta they have added a keyboard shortcut that removes everything.. so you can start on the ramp and press that key and it's all done. Shortcut is called Quick Preflight and I have mine set to Shift-Q.. So I load the flight, Shift-Q, then Shift-C and all done. Takes far less than a second.

That's just not true, the aircraft addon availibility is sparse right now

The misinformation about MSFS 2024 is just hilarious. Look at this compatibility list of aircraft add-ons:

The source for this list is here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/aircraft-compatibility-list-2020-to-2024/669089

The list of add-ons for MSFS 2024 is "sparse"? You are a perfect example of somebody who just makes stuff up about MSFS 2024. SMH.

Exactly.  Maddog, Fenix 319/20/21, RJ's, F28, A350, A300, A330.....but hey....you just can't please some people.

Seems moving to MSFS 2024 isn't really a thing anymore.  At least if you want to run the best sim available.  There I said it.  Time to get over it.  It being the so called FS98 syndrome.  lol

It's still needs work, especially in the night lighting department. I prefer MSFS 2020 for many other reasons, but I will follow the development of MSFS 2024 with great anticipation.

What about it? I heard that 2024 is much better than 2020 in this matter.

Er...no.  Like a lot of things, it's going to need some tuning to see an appreciable benefit.

As noted, the sim will update automatically..  One thing I would recommend as a new user, is to download the freeware Addons Linker and use it to install the many freeware (and payware) addons that you will get over time.

It helps a lot to organize your addons and gives you options as to where you want to store them, like on a separate SSD drive for example.

Thanks Bert.  Great site, lots of free stuff.  Love all the free STOL air strips.

Yeah, I've learned to ignore that sort of thing. MSFS2020s first night lighting was very colorful and interesting. Cue the furious realism complaints and polls. Then they changed it as demanded, and pretty much everyone hated/hates it. Same with weather. Perfectionists complained about every little thing: some of it so esoteric that I swear I barely understood what they were on about. Changes ensued followed by an immediate never-ending uproar.

Asobo gets the blame from both sides whatever they do: either for acquiescing and changing, or for holding their ground against an audience with such strong and often contradictory understandings of "realism" that I'm pretty sure its bordering on impossible to please more than one or two segments at once.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

It's hard for me to ignore the night lighting in MSFS 2024. At times I feel like I'm on XP 10.

If ASOBO can't or won't fix it, I'm sure a third party dev can. I spent more on addon lights for msfs 2020 than what I paid for the sim.

That's probably why my MSFS 2020 looks amazing at dusk and at night.

Hmmm, is everything on that list fully compatible? What about the Blacksquare aircraft, for example? All green, but there is not an official announcement made by the developer that the products are compatible. As far as I remember there are still glitches when installing them in MSFS 2024. I refuse to install any aircraft I own without an official installer for MSFS 2024.

Cheers, Bert

Me personally, I’m waiting until at least SU3 now. Reason being that I think that is when you will be able to d/l content instead of streaming it.
