I have a very strong and stable internet connection, but that would really make me think twice about ever getting MS2024. In the ongoing debate about on-line satellite-streamed scenery vs. computer-stored scenery, the bottom line is this: if you want real-world scenery for the entire globe, it has to be on-line because the storage requirement (thousands of terabytes) is beyond the storage capability of any PC and will be for the foreseeable future. If you're not that much into RW scenery, and are satisfied with FSX-era graphics, then MSFS2020 and 2024 are not for you.
April 20, 20251 yr Author Thanks Cobalt. With a strong and stable internet connection is it even a factor? BTW, good explanation of the reason for streaming vs storing all the data on your computer. Tom Tom MAKA = Make America Kind Again
April 20, 20251 yr I went ahead and installed MSFS 2024 today and all I can say is WOW! Big difference from my first time around. It's come a long way in 6 months. I can't wait to see what SU2 will bring. As for a streaming sim, it's something you will get used to having. It's way better than the alternative. I like having an empty SSD. MSFS

April 21, 20251 yr I would just get FS24 as it is getting better with each update. It is the future, so you might as well just start there. But there are things broken so you just need to accept that it will evolve and improve over the next year or two. On the positive side, you’ve missed the vast majority of drama the past 5 months so your timing is solid! 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
April 21, 20251 yr Author Okay I've decided to pull the trigger on 2024, although I'll probably wait until SU2 is out of beta testing. It's not so much the money but the learning curve of a new flight sim and wanting one that is stable for the most part. I just need a couple of STOL aircraft and I'll be happy for a while. I'll add a few more aircraft and scenery eventually. Thanks for Everyone's Help and Opinions🙂 Tom Tom MAKA = Make America Kind Again

I recently purchased V5.4 because I've spent hundreds of dollars in add-ons that are still compatible. I literally just started using it a couple of days ago. My question is, is it worth it for me to purchase MS2024 at this time? It looks beautiful, but sounds kind of glitchy. I'm not the most patient man in world and pretty novice at fixing software problems. I know I'll probably get it eventually, but is today the time? Thanks, Tom P.S. All the opinions should be entertaining P3D is a fine simulator. I spent many hundreds of dollars on add-ons and had a great time in it. I still fly the MilViz T-38C there, and occasionally the Majestic Q400. But compared to MSFS v2024, I barely fly in P3D. Right now, it REALLY depends on what your expectations are around 3rd Party add-ons. If what you fly in P3D is available by the same dev in MSFS, it's a no-brainer to transition to MSFS.

I don't ever see myself getting into commercial jets or long haulers. Bert P mentioned it was fine for GA flying. I may wait for SU2 to finish beta testing though. Thanks Again, Tom IMHO it's fantastic for GA. I fly the A2A Comanche - GREAT experience. Love the FSR500, too. Some folks here have pretty much convinced me to get the JF Black Square Duke Turbine. Still thinking that over, but everyone who has it seems to love it. Not truly "GA", but the Just Flight Hawk T1 v2 (just fully updated and Native for v2024) is simply excellent. Probably my overall favorite as of this v2 release. Edited April 21, 20251 yr by UrgentSiesta

April 21, 20251 yr I'll be honest with you, 2024 I'm going to go back to it. I'm one of those people who had problems with the main thread in 2020 and the experience was very bad. With 2024 currently with SU1 the performance with A2A is pretty good, but I have lost a much more stable and mature simulator and graphically in mu areas it is much more immersive. I bought it on sale for 40 dollars, it still has a lot of bugs that annoy me a very strange LOD, planes rolling down the runways at two meters, the PG in general is much worse than 2020, Orthos very poorly maintained in many areas, jungles giant trees that should not be there, plant structure taken from a science fiction movie, CDTs etc.. My main simulator is Xplane 12 but I'm still in love with A2A Comanche and I go back to 2024 a lot despite its flaws, if 2020 would work better for me I wouldn't have 2024 installed.

Free Flight in MSFS 2024 is very stable, provided you don't have any hardware problems, and your Windows isn't corrupted, and you have a medium spec computer or higher. And you shouldn't be using any incompatible add-ons either. But if you pass all the criteria above, it should be stable. There are a lot of streamers that stream 8 hour flights, and some even stream 12+ hour flights (they leave their computer running overnight). Those streamers are able to take off and land without any problems, MSFS 2024 is that stable for them. Now if you value stability, I would stay away from the betas. Betas inherently are not stable. By the time the beta is released as a proper Sim Update though, it's usually stable. And also don't use Career Mode for MSFS 2024 - it's much better by SU2 beta, but I think it still has some bugs.
