I'm an air traffic controller irl - I have tower, terminal radar and enroute/FIR qualifications - almost 20 years in.  I tailor my expectations when I'm talking about BATC knowing it's a sim.  That being said if you fly airliners it generally works good enough but if you fly other types of non structured routing (like airport to airport direct) or get vectored for instrument approaches, it is terrible.  There's plenty of evidence for poor vectoring and approach "control" by BATC.

If it works for you that's probably because you fly airliners on structured routing (SIDS/STARS) in and out of large airports.

But there's a TON more to aviation other than airliner flying, and BATC struggles greatly in those flight regimes.

This is true it works great for me as i only fly PMDG FENIX.

When you say its terrible at vectoring if you compare it to default its far superior obviously.

  • Ryan is actual air traffic controller. If developers disregard his comments, you can forget about developing something that resembles actual ATC. "Write your own program" is very idiotic response

The AI in P3Dv4 did a solid job of directing aircraft correctly on the ground. It is a shame that MSFS is more last generation than next generation in this respect.

No it's still terrible.

What ATC do you prefer?

BATC ticks my boxes for the time being, but I find it too robotic as it just walks you through a SimBrief flight plan. I know this is how it's supposed to work, but a bit of variety wouldn't go amiss.

None unfortunately.  Default ATC is good enough for vfr though.

I do think BATC is good enough if a person only flies airliners.  It's good at structured logic/routes where everything is predefined.

The MSFS default EDDK is outdated. The runway numbers are years old by now and Asobo just doesn't seem to care to update them. Therefore BATC - having custom ops / flows for EDDK - cannot find a runway for EDDK, because it obviously is looking for the current runway setup and not the one from like 5 years ago.

Ah. I get it. I have been using the Aerosoft EDDK for as long as there is one available, and since that one is up to date with the designators I don't run into that problem.

Yes this would be my other issue - if vectors (with all the issues outlined above in this thread) aren't used then BATC follows the Simbrief flight plan and the only function it serves is background ambience which is fine.  This is particularly the case for me as I don't use it for traffic integration to cut down on the amount of premium characters used - is there a way in BATC to turn off comms to and from AI aircraft?

In settings, there are two voice switches where you can select standard, premium, off. One switch for you, the other for AI traffic.

I agree with your comment about background ambience, you don't have a fear of doing anything wrong like passing a waypoint at the wrong altitude. You got told off in Radar Contact.

Ive owned it since the beginning man.  I've posted many bugs that they just disregard.

Hello guys, I see your discussion and wanted to share my experience. I recently started using FSHud and I really like it — for anyone who cares about realistic approaches and proper vectoring, it does a great job!

Yes a great choice if it wasn't for the voices.

No offence man you seem to really be down on this program while i agree its not perfect its light years away to what we have had in the past.

2024 isn't perfect either nothing is!!

Id contact them and ask for a refund if you can and move on to something else or write your own program if you can.
