Should / Will MSFS host their own Expo in the Future?

I would love to see the return of the UK Flightsim Show, but sadly nobody seems to care anymore.

Cosford? It's a pity for sure, the last one I went to was before covid put an end to it, but I'm sad to hear it's not started back up again.

Isn't this what the X-Box gaming events are for? If they want their own dedicated place, that would be it (Or have these stopped as well?). A dedicated MFS event would be interesting for sure, but I think the most interesting ones are those dedicated to flight simulation in general and not a specific game/sim.

Most of the events I've been to have been very sim agnostic, lots of different developers, vendors, sims etc all there to just talk about, demo and geek out over great hardware and products. It really depends on what crowd they want to attract. I personally don't believe an event just based on MFS alone would be as interesting as a general flight simming one.

  • Please just stop. Enough of the MSFS hyperbole. They had products at FSE for many simulations other than just a MS Expo. Get off your high horse, will ya. I kind of find this tread nonsense if you ask

Don't forget that Microsoft has long been fighting the Big Brother stigma.

That's what Satya is for.

Um, can you provide evidence that you did not attend?

Sorry, but it seems you clearly didn't get the point I was trying to make. Not in the mood to respond to these childish remarks anymore. Cheers.

Asobo is not going to disclose reasons for not attending an event.

But they did in a livestream. Really can't go any further with you here... Thanks for your contributions to this thread.

Nope, it was simple logic that you can't get around so now you resort to insults. I don't play those games. You said "bye", I said "bye". Lets leave it there. Thanks.

The official count for this year's expo isn't out yet but it received record breaking interest LONG BEFORE any of us knew MS/Asobo was not going to attend. So even though this year had more than the last, it's a very moot argument. People have to plan well in advance to attend the expo and we heard of MSFS' absence at the last minute. I wouldn't be surprised if Jorg agreed to keep that under wraps until very late to not potentially damage attendance.

Yeah, the complete lack of support definitely colors my opinion of Asobo.

Go back and look at the size of the booths they buy when they do attend.

"It's not the size of the booth...", it's using it regularly. 🙂

They should at least sponsor the event. Like I said - isn't it embarrassing that Fly By Wire paid for a booth but Asobo couldn't even fork over a couple G's...? Yes, yes it is embarrassing.

Good point about the late announcement, and possibly keeping it that way to not effect attendance.

Again, I was skeptical last year when Jorg would not commit to stating that Asosbo would return for 2025. Given the cheap investment posted above, I am more and more inclined to think that he knew they were not going to attend back then.

No.  And here's why.

This is the floor plan that was made public, quite a while before the expo.

https://flightsimexpo.com/floorplan

I know if I was Asobo management, I'd be booking floor space ASAP.

This map gave people ample time to decide if they were going to go, who were doing so according to a booth layout and speaking schedule.  And before anyone mentions "But people may have already bought the tickets!"

FSA offer a refund up until 2 days prior to the expo.

No Asobo booth, and no Asobo sponsorship.

When this came out, I looked over it to see who was attending, and when I saw no Asobo booths and no Asobo speaking schedules, it was pretty obvious they weren't going.  That, coupled with Jorgs lack of commitment told me all I needed to know.  And I knew before I booked my flights.

The popularity and attendance of the expo this year had nothing to do with the anticipation of Asobo's attendance.  It had everything to do with flight simming.  I'm not trying to start an argument here.  I'm calling it for what it is.

As was mentioned earlier, they certainly don't HAVE TO go, even if they could send a representative or 2 who wouldn't mind the business class, all expenses paid trip, but at the very least, for a company that claims to have sold more copies of a software title than all the add on developers and other platforms put together, they could have, at the very least, sponsored the event for a couple thousand bucks...which in turn can be a very nice tax write off.

Funny how you are not asking me about backing up the VP FACT. I did not provide evidence of that one either. And guess what, I did not need to because its a FACT that you can confirm for your yourself, and even if you choose not to, the FACT still remains.

Good morning Mr. Flatearther. Why "Flatearther"? Because that's exactly the way flatearthers argue*: "Earth is FLAT! It's a FACT! I MYSELF don't have to prove it, YOU have to go and do your own research."

Earlier I said that the popularity of the Expo had everything to do with MSFS-Asobo influence on flight simming. Increase in consumers (millions), increase in 3PDevs, increase in hardware Dev etc.

These are the facts, you trying to cherry pick another quote that I made in response to another poster about MSFS announcement and subsequent impact on attendance does not change the facts of our earlier discussion about Expos popularity due to MSFS impact on flight simming that makes the EXPO (MSFS attendance or not) what it is today.

Nice try, but you cannot deny / dispute the fact that MSFS popularity and dominant position in flight simming today has a direct impact on everything flight simming including the popularity of the Expo.

Splitting hairs, and other distraction do not work on me, dispute the facts about the Expos popularity thanks to MSFS, you can't.

In the old days, Microsoft would buy good products and improve them. Flight Simulator was always home grown AFAIK.

Try presenting a cognitive post that relates to the topic, and not laced with the kind of ad hominem attacks that usually spiral out of control and eventually get threads closed. You do know my forum handle, correct? Its on the left of my post.

PROVE that you can constructively add to the conversation.

Your opinions don’t count as facts. By all means, worship at the altar of Asobo if you want to. I’ll commend the work and financial support of everyone who made the expos possible. Including Asobo as a PART of that.

Microsoft bought the first version of flight sim from its original creator, sublogic, founded by Bruce Artwick on the Apple II.
