July 23, 2025Jul 23 I thought it was a great stream and addressed a lot of the popular issues head-on. Off the top of my head: – SU3 – was originally meant to release on the 29th July, but this will likely be pushed back. They want to put in final optimisations so it all depends on how well it all goes. – VRAM – problems are an ongoing issue, not a simple fix. There's a lot of stuff that has to go into VRAM during the session and you have to constantly manage what is actually needed and what isn't on the fly. They found a potential leak during SU3, but there are more optimisations to be done. More work will be done here in SU4. – Main thread – there's a big optimisation in the works, possibly for SU4. Seb has been discussing with the team a whole new way of managing it that would offer better performance. – WASM crashes – also an ongoing concern. This is primarily about managing fallbacks when third-party WASM crash. At the moment there's no way to recover except to restart the flight. Martial talked about some options the team are exploring, things like saving data on the fly and effectively restarting the system on the fly which would preserve the session. This is ongoing, I can't recall if it's aimed at SU4 or not. – Cloud quality – Jörg / Seb mentioned that they found a bug in SU3 that degraded cloud quality, this will be fixed in SU4. – Cloud depiction - Jörg / Seb acknowledge that this is an area for further improvement and will be pick this up for SU4+. Said to upvote the issue so it remains a high priority for the team. – SDK-specific stream – coming in September, aimed at developers, looking to unpack many of the functionalities. – Career usage – Jörg brought up that interestingly, 55% of users do free flight, 35% do career, and between world photographer, landing challenges, etc take the other 10%. The takeaway is that career is way more popular than the team anticipated. – Career evolution – To add to above, the current implementation of career is v1, and Jörg/Asobo are keen to expand on it even more. Like shared goals, more variations, etc. All of that is coming down the line, they just need to get the bugs sorted first. – UI issues – Jörg acknowledged negative feedback on UI and he's consulting with UX teams at Microsoft. The idea is that UI will get updates across the board, including marketplace in future patched. Possibly starting with SU4 but he mentioned there's other stuff that will take priority. The bottom line is that they are aware of it, and are keen to sort it out. – Pre-landing stutter – Acknowledged as an issue, especially with bigger airports. Seb mentioned they found a bunch of optimisations with big airports already but this will take further work. The big help with come with the MainThread re-work mentioned above. – Sound popping – Martial mentioned that this is indeed a problem they were able to replicate, and it's been fixed. – Flow API – With SU3 Asobo added a much more robust API to communicate what the sim is doing, this should be a big help for add-on developers. – SU4 – Will primarily focus on optimisations, performance, bug fixes. Beyond SU4 the team are working on a plan for improvements, new features, etc based both on the current wishlist but also some of the stuff they think people will like. – Microsoft layoffs – Directly does not affect Flight Sim at all, it's highly regarded as a product within MS and is fully funded for the foreseeable future. – City Update 12 – will be launched on Gamescom (20th August), Jörg couldn't say where it was just that it wasn't US. – Make Good Aircraft 4 – also to be launched at Gamescom, Jörg also couldn't say what it was except that it's a watercraft. – Marketplace Rentals – will be opened up for all third party planes today, devs have to opt-in and set durations. Will be available for native 2024 planes but also 2020 ports. Devs also have an option to set a one day trial as free, as a try-out. Also paid rental periods are counted against purchase price if you decide to buy which I think is a great system. – Marketplace in general – Jörg mentioned that he tried to use the marketplace himself and found it frustrating. This kicked off a big effort to clean things up across the board - from performance to usability. He agrees that there's a lot of spam (MScenery), stuff that he doesn't want to see. He wants it to become a great way to buy products, so he's keen to really make it great for the community. – Marketplace lag – Jörg mentioned that they've at this point removed all the roadblocks for marketplace acceptance they could, and that any delays are on developer side. He says the perceived lag is just that – a hang-over reputation but the reality is that availability is in developer hands. He says it's a bit frustrating as he sees developers put stuff on their stores first, then delay submitting their products to the marketplace. And then of course the users blame the marketplace team for the delay. He says he's totally fine with creators selling their products elsewhere, just doesn't like getting blamed for delays that are out of his hands. He does admit there may be cases he's not aware of where developers are actually delayed by the MP team, and so put a call to get more feedback. – They then brought on FlightFX to introduce their Citation.

I'm guessing Japan, based on the photogrammetry that appeared temporally a few days ago. They also talked about the simconnect crash that came with SU3 Build 10. It wasn't technically a new crash, it's been something they've been trying to fix since MSFS2020 (they're having a hard time replicating it), there was just something in the build that caused it to happen a lot more often than normal. Since that specific CTD itself was a known issue, QA didn't flag it and that's how it snuck into the build. Edited July 24, 2025Jul 24 by Tuskin38

That's why QA didn't flag it, because it was a known issue. It’s not Japan. It’s European Cities, but they won’t be announced until Gamecon on Aug. 20. I suspect Japan will be the World Update to be released in September.

Both watercraft and rotorcraft are slightly awkward terms but I think Jorg wanted to say something but was very restricted on what he could say hence he used an ambiguous term that wasn't clear on the stream.

Excellent summary, and again, for me this is Great!!! and it was really recomforting to listen to what Jorg had to say, as well as the rest of the team (ASOBO). It surely proves they're far from getting lazy, they're very active in many important fronts, and they are, contrarily to what many ( I can't understand why ) would like not to be the case, continuing to support MSFS 2020 as well 👍 I'm critic about every simulation platform I have used since ever, but I can also acknowledge the positive aspects of all of them, and presently FS 2024 is the one that brings me more positives overall, and the only that I spend the few slots available for simming with. I really look forward to see MSFS represented at next year's simulation convention, showing the surely many endeavours and results from their hard work crystalize into an even more solid and fully featured flight simulation platform. I was really glad to watch that twitch !!!!
