Not everyone with 24GB cards are having issues though. Or stutters on the ground.

I know. It's maddening in a way. It's tough to troubleshoot.

I definitely think there's a bit of Asobo being to optimistic with their level of optimization and us needing to recognize that the news sim is graphically intense and we can't expect what we had before to work just as well now. The whole industry is recognizing that 8GB of VRAM is not enough for a lot of modern games. I have made peace with the fact that my 3070ti is not enough for this sim at 1440p.

That being said, Asobo also needs to do some work on optimization and they've conceded as much. I just hope they can do it without compromising the fidelity of the sim. I don't want a repeat of 2020 SU5.

MSFS by Asobo is in constant development. They should be developing it to run on today's high-end hardware, not tomorrow's. Develop it to work on tomorrow's, tomorrow.

It works very well on the tech today. I’m using a high end VR headset with high settings and maintaining 45-60 FPS with lots of add/ons. In MSFS 2020 with similar settings, I get 38-42 FPS. If people are having issues, upgrade your PC, lower settings, and/or use AutoFPS (properly configured). And I am on Nvidia 4000 series not 5000 so it’s not the latest tech. I should also mention I have 24GB of VRAM but the sim rarely uses more than 12-13GB of it.

Great, so you don't have wayward AI then? Or shockingly bad object LOD? etc etc etc... Or VRAM issues...

No amount of hardware is gonna solve that. Only Asobo can solve that.

PS autoFPS should not be needed with a 5090 system...

I didn’t say the sim is perfect. It’s not. And yes it’s taken some time for MS/Asobo to improve it since 2024’s release. But I get far more joy out of using it than 2020 or other flight simulators. And Asobo is continuing to improve it which I appreciate. My point is today’s tech does properly run it.

I don’t generally have LOD issues, but have noticed more some in the latest build with certain objects not fully rendering until you get very close. But this is a Beta and they are testing optimizations so this is to be expected.

Most of the time when I have issues it’s related to a poorly optimized add-on. For example, last week while flying around LA with PG enabled, my FPS tanked to 18. So through trial and error by removing add-ons, I discovered that Bijan’s latest update to the LA area in his Enhanced Seasons pack was the culprit. So I went to the PG directory within the add-on and deleted the LA PG file and my FPS recovered. You can’t blame that on MSFS.

I didn’t say you did.

Nothing to do with the beta, it’s been like that since release.

I didn’t. Not sure if anyone blamed that on MS?

What you can blame on them is the aforementioned issues that are still unresolved.

Hasn’t been like that for me and I do not have VRAM issues. LOD was never an issue until this build and even that doesn’t annoy me as this is a Beta

No, but your rebuttal focused on what you find fault with so I was just acknowledging that yes there are still some issues, but your comment about needing tomorrow’s tomorrow tech to be able to run it is absurd, considering many of us are running on yesterday’s tech and getting great performance and beautiful visuals. And I’ve seen you post previously that upgrading your GPU does not help performance which is a fallacy.

My point here is that a lot of people are trying to use add-ons that are poorly optimized which can cause issues. Isolate and remove those and you’ll likely improve you performance and it’s not Asobo’s responsibility to fix those. Not saying you said it is.

But for people who have issues, doing the following, should provide you with a much improved experience.

- Hardware upgrades if you have the budget - if not lower settings

- Proper Tuning

- Taking advantage of third party tools such as AutoFPS, whether in your judgment they should be required or not - use what is available if it helps

- Isolating poorly optimized third party add-ons

Lastly, my personal belief is that one’s enjoyment with this sim comes down to whether you have a “glass half empty or have full” outlook on life. If you mostly focus on the gaps, then you’re likely not going to find much joy until this becomes an almost complete replication of actual flying, which for a $100 piece of software is asking for a lot!

I haven’t touched 2020 since 2024 launched and will never go back. MS/Asobo have brought a ton of innovation to 2024. It launched too soon, has been bumpy, and still has room to improve for sure. But I’m totally loving it and am enjoying the journey!

i wonder if they would just release small updates along the way without us even notice ? I am at KEGE in the Kodiak 100 doing TLOD 400 at 4K at about 10800mb VRAM all on high/ultra with a GTX1080TI@25fps

I agree it’s absurd, and it wasn’t my comment… 🤣

In the past it was accepted that, with flight simulation especially, only those with with a top end and very expensive system would be able to max out their settings. And even then, future tech was needed for top performance. Now, everyone expects to run the sim maxed out no matter what they are trying to run it on. If you have issues the solution is simple: Turn down your settings.

Strange!

You will have to see if your VRAM gets eaten up over a longer flight.  In some ways maybe it should.  One of the problems is we don't know where we should be really.
All I know is I have suddenly started getting the VRAM / GPU notice in SU3 .21, and I haven't changed anything.  It does stutter slightly when the notice shows up.
I have actually turned the notice off for now in the usercfg as it is just as annoying.

Maybe I misunderstood what you said.

I don’t run my settings beyond my 4090’s capabilities thus I do not have VRAM issues. VRAM averages 12-13 GB for me and I have 24GB available.

Evidently.

Maybe just a misunderstanding.  The way I read it is (my brackets) ...

"They should be developing it to run on today's high-end hardware, not tomorrow's.   Develop it to work on tomorrow's (tech), tomorrow (In the future)".

I totally agree with the statement - just common sense.
