REX Atmos Core : released

It's not an in sim addon like a plane or airport, it's a stand alone program so you have to launch it no matter where you bought from or what you installed it with.  If you know how to add entries to the sim's exe.xml file you could probably edit it to add an entry to launch it with the sim though.

Thanks. I was expecting the download from orbx would install the whole program, but it doesn't. Anyway, all working OK now and the atmos icon is on the desktop.

Interesting, they must have changed their plans since the official announcement I quoted was posted 25 minutes before that message.  Well, that would definitely be nice if they put it out next week.  Just a bit confusing since they said two different things within 30 minutes of each other.

Yesterday it also said Next week abd it is still posted at their Discord (feedback).

So Lets hope that we can start using it again next week.

@flyinion  I am monitoring this also, as I am getting a hitch / stutter every 60-90 seconds or so, where I had nothing before.

As soon as Atmos is compatible with SU4 I intend to test by running the sim by doing a circuit around a small airfield for 10 minutes, then activate Atmos and see what happens.  Of course, it could be something else, but this has only been present for the last week or so.

I got a chance to re-test this weekend and found my problem.  As I think I mentioned I had also installed Re-shade for the first time ever and used the Sealed Sky preset with Airbornegeek's settings for it.  Turns out re-shade is the issue.  I would have thought no problems running it on a 9950X3D and 4090.  Not sure if native framegen or capped fps in the nvidia control panel can cause issues with it maybe.  Before reinstalling it to test I recreated the same flight as the other day and one at a time after verifying no issues I turned on simlink, navigraph charts, then finally Atmos Core and it was smooth the entire time.  Exited, installed re-shade, started the sim and configured the preset and did the flight again.  Immediately after takeoff the stutter/hitch was back with none of the other programs running yet.

Thanks for experimenting.  I have never run reshade though, so the search continues for me.

My thoughts after getting it. I'm using a preset (AB MSFS) with some haze effects (I've always felt that visibility in MSFS is much to high, particularly in the summer). To me, it adds a depth to the atmosphere that the default doesn't provide. You get the sense that you're flying in an atmosphere. You also get a sense for how high you are or how far away something is. This gives you a better sense for how large something is since you have a sense of how far away it is. It also hides some of the distant weirdness that can happen...where LOD ends...where cloud patterns sometimes repeat. Psychologically, it has a surprisingly big effect. It's not perfect but a pretty happy medium. I hope that they enhance the product to make automatic adjustments based on visibility, precipitation, atmospheric particles, etc.

Great that you’re enjoying Atmos.

Can I just check that you are using my presets by searching for them rather than taking from the Home Screen? The home screen ones on the top presets are outdated.

The three AB MSFS presets are designed to be used together.

I also use a little bit of reshade for a slight colour correction that I’m not yet able to get in Atmos until the sliders allow finer tuning.

Apologies if you already know this but once a slider is selected by the mouse you can use the keyboard arrow keys for a more precise change of the value.

(I’d like to credit the previous poster who pointed this out but can’t find their post!)

Yeah, which doesent help at all for some sliders where you then change the 6th position after the comma when using the arrow keys but first position after the comma when using the mouse. It took me 2 min pushing on the arrow key e.g. to come from 0.035000 to the wanted 0.036778 value. Ridiculous. Especially because a) you will never able to see the difference between so little value changes and b) because the whole range is from 0.000000 to 10.000000.

Again as for many REX GUIs, the dev of the Atmos version must have taken some drugs I would like to test, because with a clear mind, you wouldnt end up doing something like that. On top, they again did not manage to implement a simple function telling what the current installed values are, no surprise, because for REX AccuSeason it took them more than three years to implement it.

Verdict: as many REX products, REX Atmos is wonderful and really transforms the sim. But sadly also like many REX products, the GUI is total rubbish...

Yes, I was using the one from the home screen.  I'll look up the new one.  Thanks for letting me know.  I used the ones for Atmos, Enviro...is there another for weather?

Yeah, in terms of the GUI, it's pretty bad and I have been scratching my head what they were thinking.  You can load a setting but you can't really tell that it's loaded and in use by looking at the screen other than the sliders appear.  You can load a setting and then change the sliders but can't save it as a new setting for yourself.  Looks like there's a different path, another way in which you *can* load and edit and save (to the cloud?).  Why two ways?  But, then will it be loaded again when it restarts?  I can't tell.  Can you "unload" one?  Can you disable what you a setting...disable Wx, atmos, enviro?  It would be nice if the home screen showed you your state...what settings you had loaded, let you edit it and save it locally and give you the *option* to upload it to the cloud.  (There's no point in posting every, sometimes, crappy setting to the cloud for everyone to fish through.)   The foundation of the product is solid and effective...huge potential...they just need to think it through.

Also, I've found it's best to leave it off until your airplane is loaded.  At least on my rig, it really messes with the Free Flight screen.  Would be nice if they would just make it load when the flight loads and activate your preferred settings and show you what settings you had loaded and shut itself down when the flight ends.  Again, basic.

Exactly. And if you select a preset from the list, it should open the corresponding tab (e.g. Atmos) and then you should be able to modify those settings (or not). Then, you should be able to save them, be it modified by you or without further modification. If not modified, you simply use the preset as downloaded, if modified, you should be prompted to give a name.

Regarding loading: I already used to start REX Atmos only as soon as I am in the cockpit doing my flight preparations. Not earlier. Like this, no issues with loading, no interference with any addon plane.

How's it looking Mr. Bennett?    Have you settled on your presets yet or are you looking to tweak them more?

I have your three presets on auto-load now.  They're great.  Thanks for making them.
I noticed the date was newer in the search list on Sunday night, so I refreshed them from there.

Also, where can I find your reshade preset?  Do to upload it to FS.to or somewhere like that?

Hi! Glad you’re enjoying them!

Erm, I can’t remember if I changed something but still if you search for them now they should be good to go. Still working on REX to try and get the home screen ones to actually be the latest.

I will post the reshade on flightsim.to this evening.

Or I am happy to PM it here if that’s possible, I have been sharing it primarily on discord, so if you have access to that, I am more than happy to share there.

It really isn’t a massive change, just some colour adjustments to make it more natural/realistic looking that I couldn’t achieve on Atmos without ruining the non-colour aspects of the atmosphere, if that makes sense!

Best!

I just bought it off the Rex store and it won't register. Contacted support  so probably  be waiting awhile.
