Quality control at ASOBO

Featured Replies

I wonder how much of the coding is now done by AI because the team had a working sim with 2020 so the fact that the same issues are coming up in 2024 are bizarre and what's even more bizarre is every update they're breaking things in the sim that shouldn't be broken.

  • And the goal of this thread is what exactly?

  • Posting here WON'T HELP.  Post at the main MSFS forums, post in the bug section.  Not even sure there's much they can do about that.  It's a difference in imagery tiles that causes that.

  • The OP just likes to do this. There’s no point to discussing it. They don’t like MSFS (which is of course fine, everyone can have their own opinion), and they want to push that opinion on everyone els

This is one of those things i don’t hold against Asobo. It is a big planet. Impossible to catch everything. Besides they make enough major mistakes that calling out these things really isn’t required.

Since when has the colour of trees in the base satellite images determined the colour of the displayed autogen trees? Surely that is determined by the date?

No, colors of the imagery impacted coloring of areas of vegetation or forests since the beginning of 2020.

Threads like this bring awareness about certain issues. Whether we like it or not.

Everybody is aware, that boundaries between satelite images can look like that. On a global level, that problem can not be solved. So you should stop asking for impossible things. And the very least you should stop blaming those who are not responsible (QC at Asobo).

Obviously no one here can fix it! its like going to your dentist and complaining about a problem with your car!

Even better: you complain to the dentist, that your car can't fly to the moon! 🙂

AI could fix that issue pretty quickly with very minimal expense.

There is an AI pass over the image tiles in MSFS. Further improvements would not be easy but very hard. In software development, going from 90% to 95% to 98% to 99% perfection every time doubles efforts (and costs). And the OP is asking going from 99% perfection to 99.999%.

Yes, but is that only if you use Real Weather (or some other setting that I do not have active)? I have not yet seen any trees in autumn colours in MSFS 2020.

Because Seasons are not included in MS2020.

Only in 2024

Ah, so when Ryan said "since 2020", what he actually meant was "since MSFS 2024 was released"? Very confusing.

No, since 2020 colors of (summer) image tiles affect the coloring of e.g. forests. So if an area has darker trees like needle trees, that area will show correctly darker trees. This answers your question:

Since when has the colour of trees in the base satellite images determined the colour of the displayed autogen trees?

But, as mentioned, it is not about seasons.

There has never been any quality control at Adobo, just as there has never been at Inibuilds, Pilots, and other illustrious members of our beloved hobby.

AI is self learning (ok some help from human training and better sources) and improves for each pass … getting to 99.9999% isn’t a problem for AI.  I’m pretty confident it will happen but if Asobo is only doing a single pass, then yeah, that will be an issue … AI requires many passes (that’s how it learns).

There are a number of problems in the sim where I could criticize Asobo for poor quality control.

The problem with this orientation is that you have no idea what their prioritization scheme is.  IOW, what you see as a QC failure, may well actually be their intention to postpone addressing what's amiss in favor of work on another aspect of this ginormous project.

When you see REGRESSIONS like the mouse curser leaving a never-ending trail as you move through menus in VR (which affected EVERY VR user in the SU4 beta),  I find it hard to believe that was "intentional" on Asobo's part.  No reason a bug like that should be present on any release version - beta or not - and is absolutely evidence of poor in-house QC.  Unless of course your argument is valid and Asobo decided to intentionally break the sim (albeit in a beta release) for all VR users LOL.  There are countless other examples of poor QC over the life of MSFS and MSFS2024...
