MSFS2024 loading time

Featured Replies

It's typical the sim takes longer to load the more objects you have....

Vanilla to vanilla though 24 loaded about 5x faster than 2020 for me.

  • This. I have AIG and FSLTL models. One installed airport, everything else streamed. From the initial 0% to when ready to click the button to bring me to the main menu: 6 minutes 17 seconds.

Try repairing MSFS2024 by right clicking on the app icon in the start menu. Took my load times from 5 mins down to 2.

Done, I cannot see much difference but thanks for the suggestion!

Try a smaller or bigger roaming cache.

As I recall the roaming cache is in MSFS2024 settings?

I can understand that.

But the sim loads every addon aircraft and scenery, even before you start the free flight?

Have you downloaded any of the world updates or marketplace airports or planes? Downloading any of the streamed content will increase the sim load time... the more you download, the longer it will take to load.

Yes but 1 year ago. I have not downloade world updates recently. Thanks for the info.

I would go to my library and change the downloaded ones to "streamed". To save time.

If I click on AOL to remove everything, msfs2024 loads in about 1 minute 30 seconds. It takes about 2:40 minutes with everything restored by clicking on AOL. (486 GB of "community" addons).

1m45s from desktop to the main menu, and about 10 seconds from the menu to my selected airport.

I would separate two things: the base sim load and the amount of content it has to scan or validate. With 2024, a fairly clean setup feels quicker than 2020 to me, but once you add downloaded world updates, marketplace aircraft/scenery and Community scenery, the start can still become slow.

With fewer than 50 add-ons, I probably would not add another manager as the first step either. I would first try a clean Community folder test, then compare it with only the scenery/aircraft you really need for that flight. If the difference is big, then a linker starts to make sense, even if you only use it for scenery and liveries rather than everything.

For aircraft alone I would not expect miracles, but scenery and streamed/downloaded content seem to be where the difference shows up most.

For me, AIG planes (the complete set installed) make a huge difference for me. I am down to ~1'30" when I deactivate them using Addons Linker, but FS2024 loads 4-5 min or so having them active. Unfortunately, I need them for PSXT to run, so I have to live with that.

Kind regards, Michael

No, it indexes them and only loads when needed.

In order to be entertained while waiting for MSFS2024 to start up, I simply watch my own Flight Simulation videos instead of the standard Asobo ones.
The file to be changed is, in my case, located here: "p:\MSFS2024\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Content\VIDEOS\PressStartVideo-4K.mp4".
It is quite easy to let for example AutoHotKey choose a random video from a folder and copy it to this name and place, so that you see another video every time the Simulator starts up. Just ask ChatGPT or similar to write the AutoHotKey code for you.

3 mins 30 seconds to launch it from Steam to the Start page. Both my SSDs are Gen 3 and I have most of what I can downloaded rather than streamed since my internet speed is 20 Mbps at best.

I use add-on linker and the following is what I have in my community folder: Just Flight Avro RJ, LFSB Scenery, LSZH Scenery, GSX Pro, VRAAS, FSLTL traffic base, AAO, MobiFlight, navigraph.

Here's one for you...

I used have a fixed frame rate of 30 (doubled to 60 in the sim with frame generation).

Once, I set 60 fps in sim (no fg) just to try it for a while.

Next time loading the sim loaded almost twice as fast. A strange bug.

I now set 60 or unlimited before quitting so it loads faster next time in, then on loading set it to 30 fps plus framegen again before the pc gets to hot.

You might not believe me but try it yourself if you normally lock at 30 fps. I have no idea why this should be.
