If you could only keep one…?

Featured Replies

A little thought experiment:

As of TODAY, of all your aircraft addons, you can only keep ONE for the rest of your days - which one is it?

And to make it more broadly interesting, we’ll expand that to only one per aircraft class.

Here’s my criteria:

  1. must be a currently available addon that you personally own. (You MAY also add an addon PENDING release - IF you feel confident it could replace your current favorite)

  2. must be High Fidelity (preferably “Study Level”). I.e., can be flown according to IRL documentation.

  3. Must have very good physics.

I’ll go first:

Only One: PMDG 737 BBJ1 (-700)

Airliner: as above

Airlifter: BBS C-130J

Biz jet: FSW Lear 35a / (P: Embraer Praetor)

Turboprop: Black Square Turbine Duke / (P: BS King Air 350)

Piston: A2A AeroStar

Bush: BS Caravan & Amphib

Helo: Taogs H500C / (P: Taog’s MH-65)

Military: DCS World F/A-18 Hornet (so sue me! 😂)

Okay, okay…: Aero Dynamics T-38A/C 😎

Flying Boat: ?

Other???

Only one CL650 HotStart in any simulator.

If it's exclusively in MFS with permission from FSlabs (I haven't tried their Airbus yet due to budget constraints)Leonardo's MD80 is by far the best add-on I have.

Either one seems a fine choice 😁

Any of the high quality aircraft from MSCENERY🤣🤣🤣

Airliner: iFly Max8

Bush platform: Milviz/Blackbird PC-6 Porter

Piston GA IFR platform: toss up between A2A Comanche and Aerostar, but I think the Aerostar wins.

Pure stick and rudder, beating around the pattern at summer grass strips: just like in reality, this HAS to be a J-3 Cub, and the CAS Cub in the sim is perfection for it.

I love these posts! 🙂

Only One: PMDG DC-6; the add-on that convinced me to buy MSFS2000 and start simming again.

Airliner: Just Flight Fokker 100 ( being released today, hopefully. If it's cancelled at the last minute, then JF's BAe146/Avro RJ )

Airlifter: Either the default C-17 or A400. I haven't got an add-on airlifter yet

Biz jet: Don't really do them, but most likely Just Flight's Lear jet when it comes out.

Turboprop: ATR 42 and 72. Haven't got much else in that department.

Piston: A2A Comanche. It's A2A - nothing more needs to be said.

Bush: SWS Kodiak. Much improved in MSFS2024, with a medevac expansion coming.

Helo: CowanSim 500E ( because it's the only helo add-on I've bought )

Military: Just Flight's wonderful Vulcan - bags of atmosphere and immersion. Fond memories of the Cold War.

Flying Boat: Mike Johnson's superb Grumman HU-16 / G111. Maybe the best default aircraft ever, IMO.

Other???

Black Square Baron

All the Flying Iron range.

Ant's Tiger Moth.

Black Box' Islander

Plus, A2A's Legacy RG550, when it comes out - a definite purchase for me.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Fenix A320, Black Square Starship and Black Square Bonanza would be my picks. They are incredibly well made and I enjoy flying them a lot!

I don't have any helis or bush planes yet, but perhaps I should start looking into those as well?

Ryzen 7 7800X3D  -  RTX 5090  -  64gb DDR5  -  Moza AB9 with MH16 Flightstick, WCTRL Airbus Throttle+hardware, Thrustmaster Pendular rudder.

  1. Starship - if only could have one

  2. MD-11 - airliner

  3. DC-6 - vintage

  4. Caravan - bush

  5. Taog 500C - heli

  6. CAS J-3 Cub - light GA

  7. BS Bonanza TC - piston GA

  8. AS 33 Me - glider

  9. C-160 Transall - military cargo

  10. BB Zero - piston warbird

  11. Jaguar - fighter jet

  12. Albatross - sea plane

1) Piston - A2A Comanche though @Stearmandriver saying he loves the Aerostar is making me wonder if I don’t need that too!? That freebie Carenado Dakota also gets a surprising amount of hours, as does the default Cirrus.

2) Turboprop - I like the default C90

3) Private Jet - rarely fly these but probably the default Asobo Longitude

4) Airliner - this is TOUGH, I love the JustFlight 146 as I rode the real planes so I think I’ll pick that. The JF F28 is also great as I’m sure the F100 this week will be. The default XP12 737 is my absolute favorite airliner of all sims even though Inownbthe PMDG 737-800 under the “just sue me” entry.

5) Vintage - PMDG DC-6

Whenever the Black Square Turbocommander comes out I’m sure THAT will become a favorite!

PMDG 737, but only if I can literally keep only one.

Cheers, Pete
