  1. Yeah it is - Depending on the facility of course but I've heard a tower talking to a pilot once about where to go hunting nearby... The controller always know how busy it really is and I doubt it would have happened if it was actually interfering with operations. My favorite quote: Plane: "To the ramp via Alpha 7, thanks for the ATC." Tower: "This is't VATSIM!"
  2. Okay so a link to a forum right now, such as http://forum.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=493 "should" always work?
  3. John - am I correct in assuming the way things are will be how things stay? I had my support forum linked in a couple apps and now that means the whole process of re-submitting to Apple etc which takes a week. Thanks
  4. My current rig is home built and was my first one. I was expecting it to be much harder and when it was all done I actually thought I must have done something wrong because it was so easy. I love my machine and it was 100s cheaper than purchasing something equivalent. My only regret was not getting a larger case because it got cramped in their pretty quick.
  5. Sorry I don't know, I was just fixing the link for you :) I have had this problem for a very long time (not just with the NGX) and I too just ignore it.

  7. I suggest you edit the last two words of that post out as it could be construed as highly offensive to many people and is not something that should be referenced, especially in regards to such a trivial topic.
  8. I got a profanity warning from them and I have no idea why. The warning was poorly structured almost as if the writer had made some edits to the email and neglected to re-read the whole thing. It didn't actually say, specifically, what I did wrong. I responded to the email asking about it but never received a response. I stopped going to the DVA website after that (although not just because of that). I think I came to the conclusion after awhile that it just wasn't for me.
  9. Yes there are plenty of PIA repaints in the repaint section of the file library.
  10. Also, you can move the HGS housing by clicking on it - that way you can reach the yaw damper switch. Otherwise I just hit shift-A (twice I think) to see the OH panel better. EZDoc is best but I dont have it yet.
  11. That's really cool - thanks for sharing
  12. No, as expected the FAA has postponed this at least until fall: It is still possible to purchase the chart subscriptions through October/November this year, just like it always has been, so you're free chart sites (and apps) are good to go for awhile still.
  13. So I'm dangerously close to pulling the trigger on this beauty... Are there any sliders on it? In DCS A-10 I have the view zoom mapped to one the slider on the throttle of my old X-52 so it's easy to zoom in and out with my TrackIR. Is there anything similar to that? Or can you guys tell me what you guys do for zooming your view?
  14. No I don't use tower view. It's only compatible with FS9 and I've found it to be a bit difficult to use. Nice to look at though. I'm pretty sure you can set REX to use VATSIM weather information, although I don't recommend that. Some have reported problems using that. 99.9% of the time you are okay jut using REX/AS real weather. Sometimes the VATSIM weather servers can get out of sync too. When a controller looks at the weather, they are seeing whatever VATSIM weather servers are saying so sometimes there can be discrepancies. There's no perfect solution. If you are learning to follow SIDs and STARs then you wont have difficulty with the flight plan. If you are in the US, make a simple flight plan on skyvector.com such as KDEN FQF PUB KPUB and fly it just by tuning each VOR and flying to it. Outside of the US it's harder to find charts but they're out here. There's nothing wrong with doing all your first flights in a small prop plane. In fact it's best to do that. A lot of pilots load up some fancy plane for their first flight and everything overwealms them. Autopilot is okay, but just make sure you know how to use it. You'd be surprised how many times I have seen pilots read back a heading, but they never turn because they dial the heading into the autopilot but forget to engage heading mode. Your name is required, yes. I know some people don't enter their real name and I have heard of people being banned if it is discovered. Perhaps using a middle name or something along those lines? Just don't enter something like "Ima Pilot69", lol.
  15. 1. Use whatever you like, make sure vatsim weathers turned off in SB or FSINN 2. Of course 3. That's it 4. If you know what a traffic pattern is then you're better than most VATSIM pilots. I don't know what that lesson teaches you from an procedure/communication point of view so make sure and read the VATSIM PRC. ZLA also has awesome pilot training documents and courses. The most important thing is that you can fly and navigate your plane. Learn about radials and eventually how to fly an instrument chart without using gps. But as long as you learn the communication stuff it sounds like you're ready for your VCR flight. When you do ifr, know how to navigate. Know how to fly your flight plan on your own. It's so frustrating when pilots have some flight planner spit a flight plan that they don't understand into FS and then they follow it with gps. If you ask them to do anything else they melt down because they don't know how to go direct to a for VOR for example. Most importantly don't file something you don't understand, and don't comply with an instruction you don't understand or hear. There's NOTHING wrong with saying repeat or saying you don't know how to do something, but there's everything wrong with saying you I'll comply with an instruction and have no idea what to do. Check out laartcc.org for good training Also look at denartcc.org in the training section for videos I made one is all about VFR paterns. They are from the controllers perspective but very helpful nonetheless.
  16. I agree the down voting was useful. I don't know how much control you guys have over it but perhaps setting it so that you can only down vote once per day and can only down vote a single person a total of 5 times. That would nearly solve the abuse problem, while still giving the negative nancies a chance to see people don't like reading their negativity. Part of the problem too was that I think some people were using it as a "I disagree with your point" button which I definitely don't think it was. I think it was more for those who post idiotic things that are a detriment to the community. Plus I agree that it should be anonymous. Just because typically, the person getting down voted a lot is more likely to be the type of person who would start trying to abuse the system against the people who down voted him. A lot of time I would see posts that had been down-voted for no apparent reason and I would up-vote them just to get them back to 0.
  17. I always remember seeing that video of the guy whose "safety" parachute deployed right as he was taking off and basically jerked him backwards right into the ground. I've done a lot of dangerous stuff in my time but I don't think I would do one of those, instructor or no. It does seem fun, but not for me.
  18. I think it's a "special" boeing unit of measure that doesn't relate to actual degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius.
  19. Actually - where's Robert's regularly scheduled April Fools "announcement"? I've enjoyed those through the years - or mostly I've enjoyed people's reactions to them hehe.
  20. Supposedly they are working on a new client. The fact that the client has to be free discourages most developers capable of tackling such a complex project but hopefully whatever new thing they are working on changes things completely.
