  1. Very cool to see KRIC coming to MSFS. I used to work at Million Air KRIC - one of the most fun jobs I've ever had, fueling anything from a Cessna 152 to a Boeing 767!
  2. Before flying into an unfamiliar airport for the first time, I would take a good long look at charts and satellite maps (google maps) to get used to easy-to-identify landmarks leading up to and around the airfield. I found that this helped tremendously; while I may not have been able to directly visualize the airport until I got closer, I sure as heck knew the general area of where it was going to be. I find this technique works well in sim just as it does in real life.
  3. In pictures I've been able to find after a quick google search, I've been seeing the AoA critical mark at 15.
  4. I was running an older i7 system with a 2080, and was able to get 20-30fps on high end settings. Computer kicked the bucket so I got a new system with a 5900x and a 3080. Obviously it’s a massive upgrade across the board from my old system, but I am blown away by the performance (solid 60+ FPS on ultra settings). So far, very happy with the 5900x and 3080 combo.
  5. Down again. Incredible. It is a balmy 20 degrees C in northern Canada.
  6. LiveWeather working for me as well. Fingers crossed it stays up...
  7. JF posted on their forum yesterday that their support staff was around and would upload the update as soon as they had it. No idea what’s going on there. Regardless, I’m enjoying the Kodiak sans-update.
  8. It looks incredible. I went from a 32” 1080p 60hz to a 32” 1440p 165hz. Blown away at what I was “missing” with the old monitor.
  9. I’ve been happy so far with MSFS payware. As much as it pains me, I have the Carenado M20, C170, and PA44…and they have provided me with some of my most enjoyable flights ever in my 30 years of flight sim. I know - no need to tell me. I am part of the problem. I hate that they’ve been so slow on getting an update out post-SU5. But when they do work…it is so much fun.
  10. Yup - avoid Carenado at all costs currently. They have yet to update their aircraft for SU5 and are broken.
  11. Ditto. Can’t update it. Other items I have that needed updating worked fine. Only the CRJ is stuck in a loop.
  12. SU5 destroyed VR for me. Noticeable improvement in 2D, significantly worse performance in VR on the RiftS. I’ve had to dial down my settings quite a bit to make it barely playable in VR.
  13. I flew a light sport in 15-18 knot crosswinds often. Absolutely no issue on the ground - I recently turned on the assistance and found it much more “realistic” feeling. Can’t stand the fight with the rudder pedals in the sim.
  14. That was it - my anisotropic filtering setting was reset to a lower value with the update.
  15. I noticed the same issue yesterday on my first flight since updating. Going to have to check my settings to see if anything reverted down to a lower value.
  16. I’m using FSUIPC to avoid the 10 degree/1000ft increment bug. Works great. Using the MSFS for axis control only.
  17. I use the Rift S and the Alpha/Bravo. They are an amazing combination. The autopilot took a few flights to get the muscle memory down, but believe me when I say the immersion is enhanced a lot with the honeycomb kit.

  19. Performance is abysmal, and I have somewhat high end hardware. DCS runs smooth on very high settings, as does XP11, but both of those took quite some time to get optimized for VR. This won’t be any different.
  20. I definitely will. I was exclusively flying sims in VR until MSFS. With the addition of VR, I’ll be going right back to it. I’ll post my experience with it in the VR section once I get a chance to try it out.
  21. Enjoy! I’ll be doing the same, my first attempt at doing so. I’m currently planning my legs, starting in Virginia and I have about 40 so far that get me into Scotland. I’ll be keeping a type of journal logging details about each leg and things I’ve learned about each virtual stop. Will be sharing this with my two boys as a bit of an educational thing. Get to “see” places and learn about different geography, cultures, languages, etc. it’s going to take forever, but I’m not complaining! I will be sticking with one plane, the A2A Aerostar when it is released. So for now planning continues!
  22. Great work on KRIC! Basing my Air Hauler 2 company out of the MillionAir FBO.
  23. I contacted them via e-mail and it took about a week to have my access issue resolved.
  24. I enjoy doing long-haul flights out of PANC in the FS9 PMDG 747F, recently on VATSIM. Instead of flying the default PMDG paint or any real-world livery, I'd like to spice things up a bit by flying a 747F in the colors of my choice. My wife and I have a black lab named Sirius (after the star in Canis Major, also tied to Sirius Black from Harry Potter), and we have a sign in our kitchen that has a black lab on it. That basic black lab design will be on the tail, with the rest of the aircraft following the astronomical reference. I'm thinking a roughly 50/50 black and white design, with the upper half being white and lower being black (so the tail can have the black lab). I do not want a straight-across demarcation between black and white - definitely a smooth, flowing curve. I will be happy to do VERY basic markups of what I'd like and provide photos for reference once someone comes forward with an interest in my request. What do you get out of it? Lots of free advertising of your excellent painting skills when I post trip reports! Heck, I'll even have a signature banner with "Painted by yournamehere". Also, you'll have the satisfaction of providing me with a personal aircraft that I will enjoy the heck out of and smile every time I load it up. Thank you for your time!
