  1. This is great news, coincidentally, as I've just ordered one of these, to replace my EVGA GTX670 as well. Quieter is always a bonus. Jazz
  2. I would change the Kingston ssd's for either Crucial M500/550's or a pair of Samsung 840 EVO's for just a few dollars more. My reasoning being, those Kingston's are very slow and quite often do not reach their reported read/write speeds. And you may want to consider a WD Black 1 or 2 TB HDD for your other installed softwares. Jazz
  3. Without knowing which cpu/socket you have, it is difficult to tell you whether or not, you are making good choices. The new motherboard must have the same cpu socket as the Dell, otherwise the cpu will not fit. Spending money on new parts in the hopes of updating/improving performance on an obsolete platform is a waste of money. You would be better served by running your current pc as is, meanwhile saving your money for a brand new system. I'm talking a custom build, where you pick the parts you would like to have, and the computer store assembles it for you. It is worth the extra 50 - 100 bucks, to have the store build and test/burn-in/overclock it for you, believe me. Jazz
  4. That is the review Chad had mentioned. It is the only review that I have been able to find, at this point, as well. I will post a link if I find anything else. Jazz
  5. Morpheous, take a look on the Iris dynamics website forums. https://forums.irisdynamics.com/ General Q&A section. Jazz
  6. Personally, I would pass on the hybrid drive and buy two separate drives, one SSD and one HDD. With the hybrid drive, if one half fails, you lose everything. At least with 2 separate drives all would not be lost. As Bert said, down the road you could add more drives, for storage/backup. Jazz
  7. Not worth the cost, IMO. FSX performs better with a higher clocked cpu, versus one with more cores. Even if the 5930k can be overclocked to 4.4 ghz, the cost of upgrading to x99, and ddr4, is crazy expensive at the moment. As is the case with every new tech that has come out. (ie, the switch from ddr2 to ddr3.) The higher clocked ram (2800mhz) is being offset by the higher latency timings (cl15 or cl16), so you will not see much performance increase, if any, with FSX. It may be better for you to hold off for now, and wait for Intel's next gen, Broadwell, CPU. It has been rumoured to be the next major 'tock' in Intel's 'tick-tock' CPU cycle. Jazz
  8. Have you tried installing the fsx version in P3D using the EMT? It works just fine.
  9. Weren't those guys a charter member of Avsim's 'Wall Of Shame'? Definitely bad news, that's for certain. Jazz
  10. Regarding the 'jumping around'; sounds like your yoke may need a bit of cleaning on the inside. Other than that, I'm at a loss. Sorry. Jazz
  11. Z06z33, have you tried setting your fps to unlimited, in the sim? No other tweak is really needed for P3d; it works straight out of the box. Jazz
  12. Do you have another controller, besides a throttle or rudder pedals, connected, that may be interfering with your yoke? Have you tried unplugging your throttle and rudder pedals to see if the problem persists? One last question, have you tried disabling all controllers in FSX, and setting everything up in FSUIPC? Jazz
  13. Awesome pics, especially shots 5-7, 10 and 13. Jazz.
  14. It's taken FSX 8 years to get to where it is now. P3D is continuing to evolve, as is it's user base, one can only imagine where it will be in 7 years time development wise. Will it surpass the MSFS series; It's inevitable. Jazz
  15. It eliminated screen tearing while in windowed mode on my system. YMMV, of course. Jazz
  16. That's pretty good, considering v2 has been out for a little less than a year. Any bets on how long before it takes over the number 1 spot? Maybe Dovetail's imminent release will quell the upsurge. Good time to be an Av-simmer. cheers, Jazz
  17. Thanks for the input, Rich. I took your advice and dl'ed the OpusFSI demo, and will try it out over the next few days, then go from there. Cheers, Jazz
  18. Nice shots, Rich. I may have to take a more serious look at OpusFSI. Those clouds do look quite stunning. Cheers, Jazz
  19. It has been at least a couple of months since anything has been mentioned about the Q300. Last I heard, was that the model (Q300) was being worked on, but all other programming efforts were being channeled towards the pro and training versions of the Q400. After the Q400 is finished, Majestic have said they will be doing the Q300 using the same/similar techniques as the Q400, with either the Dash 100 or 200 following that. Jazz edit; With FSX now in the hands of Dovetail Games, it raises the question of whether Majestic will continue to develop for FSX, or will they focus more on P3Dv2???
  20. Impressive screenshots, there Peter. v2.3 certainly holds the edge in cloud colour, and contrast. I may have to revert back to v2.3 myself just for the clouds. Jazz
  21. Unless you have a pc of comparable capability to Rob A., aka an I7 6 core with a pair of Titan gpu's, I would turn some of your settings back down. Jazz just my .02c
  22. WOW! D.S.R. really does clean up those jaggies. And quite well. If only I could get it to work on my sim box. By the way, nice shots, Sesquashtoo. Thanx for posting. Jazz
  23. The offset of the Q400 with some runways, during approach, may be due to the difference in the navdata being used by the Q400, and the default data of fsx. By updating the afcads of your favourite airports to match current charts, is one way to correct this. Jazz
  24. For the ISI, they are talking about the backup attitude indicator /qnh. It sits between the pilots MFD and the ED. Jazz
  25. This is a tweak for adjusting the rain colour from white to a shade of grey. This was initially done for FSX. I do not recall who discovered this mod, but, Thank-You, whomever you are. Edit the Rain.fx in the ShadersHLSL folder. In FSX it is on line 64, P3D may be different. Look for this line; float4 cColor = float4(1,1,1,In.cDiffuse.w) * (cColor0 + cColor1); change it to; float4 cColor = float4(0.4,0.4,0.4,In.cDiffuse.w) * (cColor0 + cColor1); Then delete your shader cache files in the folder: %localappdata%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Shaders (those files will be recreated when you run p3d) As always, make a backup of your original Rain.fx file before making any mods. Jazz
