  1. I think the difference is that if a car engine is quitting then that's quite clearly dangerous. The issues those of us are having with the sim are indeed frustrating, but ultimately, it's a computer game. People need to put into some sort of perspective here. I've seen posts on the official MFS forum where people are threatening lawsuits against MS/Asobo, it's completely nuts. It gets patched regularly, these things will get picked up. In the meantime people just need to go outside and get some air!
  2. Whilst I agree that it's frustrating when these things don't work, that doesn't sound very healthy to be honest..
  3. Yeah I did notice its a bit fps intensive, for me it was pretty stuttery the first time I used it (when I loaded up there), but was much smoother the second time (when I landed there from somewhere else, which is strange.
  4. I'm loving this aircraft I have to say! Treated myself to Lydd and Headcorn airfields from Burning Blue Design (https://burningbluedesign.com/product-category/scenery/airports-and-airfields/) and did a nice flight originating at Lydd, stopping into Headcorn and then onto Biggin Hill. A route I know well and have done many times in a real PA28! The whole thing was hugely satisfying, probably the most immersive VFR experience I've had in a sim to date!
  5. Hmm, I would think its more likely to be effects from Sim Update 3 than the Arrow itself. I really like it. The only 'issue' I can report is the aforementioned jitter that the airframe seems to have as a reaction to turbulence, even in minimal (3kt) wind. It strikes me as odd that a lot of people report that they find it very stable in flight, as I don't personally have that perception. Its not unstable, but it's definitely very lively.
  6. Definitely not the Arrow, Bob. I'm not seeing any performance hit over the default planes with this.
  7. All of the music for MSFS was composed by Finishing Move. You can listen to all the trailer soundtracks and menu music on their Youtube channel and also on Spotify! This is the one they usually use for the World Update and Community trailers:
  8. How much to ship to the UK? 😝 Joking aside, I also have a Haswell/4th Gen based system and it's still going pretty strong after 7 years, albeit with a GTX 1060.
  9. Definitely wouldn't pay $1700 for that, your friend is ripping you off. The 4790k is a 7 year old chipset circa 2013. It was fantastic in its day and still is relatively good if on a budget, but for that money you could buy a current generation PC!
  10. It is strange. I did a circuit in the default C172 at the same airport and same wind conditions (which were so light they were almost negligible anyway) and that flew much more stably than the Arrow. It's almost like the kind of engine shake effect you see on the ground is translated into the air as well, which having flown a few PA28s in the real world - albeit lesser powerful ones - is certainly not the case in reality.
  11. Yes this is exactly what I'm seeing as well. The aircraft jitters and shakes a lot.
  12. Does anyone else have some kind of weird control conflict issue? Just took her up for a little fly and it feels like something is fighting with the ailerons. You can actually see the ailerons moving even when you don't move the stick, and it's not a joystick conflict or anything as the yoke in the cockpit doesn't reflect the random aileron movement either. The aircraft feels very.. squirrely.
  13. Mine seems to cope fine with 16GB, although I am only running at 1080p. My board does have the capacity to increase it to 32GB but it's only DDR3 and I figured that there isn't much point in doing so this late in its life. I've been planning a full upgrade in the not-too-distant future anyway.
  14. I've only ever flown PA28s in RL, but those have a very marked balloon tendency when you deploy the flaps. You quickly learn to counteract it by simultaneously pushing forward on the yoke as you pull up the flap handle. They're all different though. I've also flown in a friend's Socata TB-9 which is also a low winger but has completely different flying characteristics. Unlike the wide tapered wing of a PA28 which can quite easily take off with no flap deployed at all, the TB-9 which has a much more slender wing will seemingly just run and run and never get airborne without one stage of flap.
  15. That's probably true air speed rather than indicated. 100kts IAS is plausibly around 120kts TAS at those sorts of altitudes, depending on the atmospherics. Indicated airspeed always comes down as you climb higher as the air gets thinner. At 14k feet in a 172 you're probably going to be on oxygen!
  16. 100ish knots sounds about right for a 172. It's no rocket ship, and doesn't have as much power or the VP prop that the 182 has. Also indicated airspeed will decrease as you climb and that's pretty high altitude for a 172.
  17. I only joined VATSIM last month too. It's awesome, adds a whole new level of depth to simming and makes it probably about as close as is possible to get to real life! Definitely makes me get sweaty palms a bit though when it's busy!
  18. Just Flight got me into flight simming way back when with the original Flying Club add on for FS2004 on disc! And the Just Flight forum was the very first forum I ever joined, quite a long time before Avsim!
  19. Another thing I hope they can sort out is the strange and sometimes unpredictable behaviour of the lateral navigation as well. On my last flight on Vatsim I was instructed to go direct to a particular waypoint. Should be easy enough, but when I executed that in the MCDU, it deleted all remaining waypoints on my flightplan leaving me with just the departure and arrival airports, and tried to turn back to the start. Luckily I was using the Navigraph app on my tablet and was able to steer the aircraft by headings to keep to the track. And also to implement Holds. Its unusual these days to fly into either Heathrow or Gatwick and not be required to hold.
  20. My specs are in my signature, but similar to yours except a slightly stronger CPU (4770k). Same GPU as yours. I use the global High preset and performance is generally quite good at 1920x1080. I probably average about 40fps in something like the C172, lots of photogrammetry brings it down to high 20s. The FBW A32N averages about 30fps, lowest low 20s at a big airport with lots of traffic.
  21. Another vote for the Just Flight one. I like JF, and also I like that the variant they've chosen to model is an older one as I think the sim needs some aircraft that are a bit more weathered and classic! Bit more reminiscent of most of the club aircraft I've seen in RL!
  22. Press AP, then press HDG and ALT. It'll fly the heading that's set on the DI and should maintain the current altitude. Remember there's no autothrottle so you're still controlling speed with the throttle.
  23. It was a while ago since I did the full install (launch week) but I think it was all downloaded within an hour. The latest update was done in about 20 minutes. I'm on 350Mb cable broadband but I also have a to use a Powerline to reach my PC so that reduces it to 220Mb. The disadvantage of cable broadband is that the coax typically gets terminated in the living room where your TV is, not in the room where the PC is! 🤣
  24. It is fixable, but it takes some fiddling around. It isn't caused by any defective part, it's just everything being so crammed together inside. Looks like they were thrown together quite hastily in my opinion. I think I took it apart and put it back together 3 times before I sort of fixed it 😂 I've also removed the button/pin which locks the twist action which seems to have helped, weirdly.
  25. I started having issues with the twist (Z) axis spiking within a month or so of owning mine, however I took it apart and tidied up the wires that run past the pot and it seems to have been fine since. Apart from that it's quite a nice stick, feels quite sturdy and has a smooth and direct action to it.
