Antonov An-2 is available
TheFamilyMan replied to Matchstick's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Just a minor nit, which may be a MSFS problem. In VR when direct sunlight hits the banks of dip switches, none of them cast a shadow. Seems some of the other controls exhibit this behavior too 😞 Other aircraft don't seem to have this problem as bad. Yeah I know, this is splitting hairs here on an otherwise fabulously detailed and crafted ride. -

Spent about a half hour digging through old backups looking for this manual to no avail, much thanks! -

VR Heaven! Looks beautiful with DLSS Quality with my G2. Waking up my muscle memory starting it, trained from the hours spent flying it in FSX. -

Loved this aircraft so much in FSX I just had to buy the Win10 version for FSX-SE when I went to Win10, since it's original release wasn't Win10 compatible. Count me in! It's definitively the RL AC that goes with my member title "unusually low and slow". Can't wait to hop in it's VR cockpit (once the SU12 update completes). -
Looking to try VR

That's the big trade off using the 4k per eye res HMDs. Thankfully gone is the dreaded screen door effect (as I think is being pointed out), but as the scaling, i.e. resolution, is lowered to get playable FPS with a gcard, the image blurriness increases. Bottom line here paraphrased: beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. -

Motion sickness really varies person to person. Thankfully VR in flight sims doesn't bother me hardly at all (even right from the start), and that's includes VR flying WWI kites in combat that are flipping around on all axes (RPY) at high rates. But I'll feel quite 'green' right away in VR games if I'm being pushed/slid along in a manner that's not me controlling my body to naturally move along. For either the Pico 4 or G2, consider your rtx 3080 the bare minimum needed to drive either of these adequately. Some feel that the P4 needs at least a 4090 to really shine. Overall I'm content with my 3080 ti driving my G2, though (of course) things could be better. -
Used TIR for over 13 years, then got a HP Reverb G2 in 2021...no looking back to sim flying in 2D. Should sell my TIR 5 and pro clip, both which I had for about 3 years, since they're now gathering dust. My TIR 4 essentially died, would no longer detect IR. Dang TIR rocked, but IMO is thoroughly decimated by VR in a G2.

VR and sound card
TheFamilyMan replied to Rene_Feijen's topic in Virtual Reality (VR) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Another thing to try is to start the Hapticonnect software after the G2 is enabled by the MRP app. Probably the best solution, wouldn't be surprised if all G2 + Buttkicker users do this. -

The default setting for audio using WMR (windows mixed reality) is to make the G2's USB audio device the "system's default audio device" when the Mixed Reality Portal app is running with an enabled G2; this effectively disables the audio to other audio devices. I'm guessing that the Hapticonnect software didn't see/detect this WMR change of the audio device. Not sure how that software is configured, but I'm guessing when the G2 is enabled Hapticonnect needs access to the G2's audio device, which Win10 calls "Realtek USB2.0 Audio", and I'm guessing it's not doing that automatically thus you may have to set Hapticonnect to that audio device manually. BTW if needed the WMR audio behavior can be changed by the "Audio and speech" panel of the Mixed Reality Portal app. Hope this helps. -
I just checked the US HP store website and successfully put a G2 in my cart for $599 with an estimated delivery on 2/10. Didn't buy it though, for my currently owned G2 still serves me well. This article claims that this is HP's response to this rumor: Seems a rather positive statement about continued HP support for VR products to me. IMO a 'we'll see' scenario going on here.

This has always been an intermittent cockpit problem for me in VR, that is having to coerce my mouse into responding. I'll have to check for noise from a controller. Seems highly plausible for that's something I get from a couple of my axes if I forget to limit cycle them before flying. Don't ever recall having this problem in 2D.

Putting together these two articles gives credence to this. https://www.hardwaretimes.com/nvidia-dlss-3-vs-2-image-quality-comparison-thrice-the-performance-double-the-delusion/ https://www.hwcooling.net/en/dlss-3-and-frame-generation-minitest-in-ms-flight-simulator/ IMO both of these articles are a little weak (c'mon, using 2K to test DLSS performance?), but their underlying working principles are solid.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was using 'drug store' grade readers that gave me the problematic IR reflections...wish I known a coated lense would have helped, always thought using the Pro Clip was a PITA.
-
One thing not yet mentioned above is that if you wear eye glasses, using the TIR reflective clip can be problematic since the your glasses can also reflect IR to the TIR sensor, causing random violent and bizarre view shifts. The TIR Pro clip solves that problem, though it introduces yet another skinny wire to be tangle up with other wires. I was once looking into the battery powered clips, but went to VR before making that upgrade. BTW, once you dial in TIR use you're hooked on it for life...and same goes for VR too.

I'm surprised that so few here are bothered by the nearly useless 'save' and 'load' flight functionality. Before switching to MSFS I could plan a multiple hour GA flight with several waypoints, then make that flight over several 30 to 60 minute sessions on different days. Now I'm forced to have flights of that last for only 30-60 minutes. Many have complained about this deficiency on the MSFS forum, but I get the impression that this is not even logged as a problem for the devs. Yeah, i know there are workarounds but IMO they aren't worth the hassle nor close to the convenience and experience I once enjoyed.

https://il2sturmovik.com/ Initially I purchased IL2 Battle of Stalingrad though stream years ago as, but add-ons I purchased from the dev's web store. I'm really into their Flying Circus add-on, which is a WWI combat flight sim. This stuff in VR is amazing and like MSFS its aircraft are highly detailed modeled, including their flight modelling and aerial combat (which of course isn't in MSFS).

Confused - Reverb G2; WMR; SteamVR
TheFamilyMan replied to AJZip's topic in Virtual Reality (VR) Hardware and Games
Glad that you got it sorted out, I find this sort of stuff crazy making. In watching the HP video on setting up G2, it shows them running the 'Get Started' step of the Mixed Reality Portal app before the G2 is connect to the computer. Don't know if this detail is relevant now, but if I ever run into this problem I'll remember to dig up your solution here. Hope you have success with getting the OpenXR Tools for WMR app installed.
