  1. Sorry about my loose "sim" reference. MSFS is wonderful/excellent/etc., the sim SF-260 experience can't be described using polite language. Yeah, should've know better. But dang, it's VC rocks in VR (and the AC literally does too when in flight).
  2. Couldn't resist the sale price and bought this last black friday. In VR it is a beauty to behold both inside and out, but that's the only thing positive about it. As an AC known for its use in precision acrobatic formation flying, I find this sim's flight characteristics like trying to walk a german shepard that's spotted a squirrel, plus its graphics cost me about 10 fps compared the likes of the Just Flight PA-28 Arrow. As we used to say, this sim is now shelf-ware.
  3. I was experimenting with MSFS settings that I haven't used recently and found that "Reprojection Mode" in the VR graphics setting seems to no longer produce jiggly artifacts like it use to pre-SU14, IIRC, though now on the slight occasion they'll occur on the periphery. Apparently this setting does not enable Motion Reprojection (as discussed below), but it does add smoothness when "looking around", i.e. panning with your head when wearing your HMD. From my experience it's still not always perfectly smooth, but it's definitely better than not using the setting. Here's some background info on what MSFS's "Reprojection Mode" does. This info is culled from this post made by mbucchia, the author of the OpenXR Toolkit. Much thanks to mbucchia in clarifying this setting's functionality, and for doing so in response to my inquiry about Reprojection Mode which I posted on the Flight Simulator forum. Also thanks for reading, and that you find this info useful.
  4. Given all the 'try this' advice, I decided to recheck all my settings to see if I was missing something beneficial. Bottom line - I've had my 3080 ti push to the wall in terms of the performance/quality balance in VR, getting 45-48 fps in nearly all situations though I limit FPS to 48, and nothing new/better was to be had (well, almost...read on). I tried pushing the resolution up to see if 2D clarity was waiting at the end of the rainbow and I made it up to 160 renderscale before running into the performance brick wall of 1-2 FPS. I saw a slight improvement in instrument readout clarity at 120 but after that I really couldn't notice any improvement, using either TAA, DLAA or no AA. Didn't bother with DLSS since it's a downscale res -> render -> upscale using cuda core AI AA filtering processing (no comments about this, please). I'm glad for those that find joy in the magic it may yield when using it with grossly applied supersampling, perhaps someday we'll all have GPUs that can demonstrate this effect. BTW, I use DLSS Balanced in VR, it gives me a near 10% FPS boost over Quality at the cost of just a very slight loss in image clarity (IMHO of course). Now for the good stuff! First off, DX12 is back with SU14 in that VRAM is not longer being over saturated, which yield a slight performance/quality boost for me (though this is now nothing new). But even more impressive: Reprojection Mode no longer causes the wiggling jello effect artifacts while flying!!!! This is HUGE, at least for me. Now us VR users effectively have frame generation! YAY 🌟 🌟 🍻 Primetime? ...hell yeah!!!! Now back to sim flying! Edit: My absolute conclusion - my VR image quality still sucks compared to what is easily had in 2D. But dang, when in my VC I'll always take my G2's full immersion over looking though a window at it.
  5. ...with a rtx 4090 I find that the G2 is very picky about how it fits on your head. The sweet spot shrinks noticably the further its lenses are away from your eyes, and the IPD setting has to be spot on along with perfect eye to lens alignment. Took me a bit of time to get all that dialed in properly, though I'll admit its sweet spot still takes practice 'learning to live with'. Got my eyes so close now that I have to trim my eyebrows every few weeks else a few hairs get in the way.
  6. As an aging boomer, IMHO life's too short not to enjoy VR in a flightsim right now, even with all its imperfections.
  7. A bit late to this party (travel plans, holidays, colds/flu), but for me SU14 completely breathed life in to DX12, which I'd long since abandoned. What's changed for me: noticeably reduced VRAM usage and increased smoothness. Flying in areas that guaranteed to saturate my 3080 ti's VRAM using DX12 are now flyable, i.e. are now no longer saturating VRAM. I'm guessing a side effect of this is that now my FPS usually is pegged at 48 which is the FPS limit I set using the OXRTK. The net overall effect of it all seems to result in increased overall smoothness. I hope this DX12 improvement is here to stay, but seeing the track record on system updates one can never know. BTW, note that I exclusively use VR with my Reverb G2.
  8. I don't use any of its automated features. Instead every few weeks I'll update the foliage. Not really interested in achieving RL since that's too specific, but rather getting a seasonal look that's not always the same old thing over and over. Their weather profiles are a nice touch, especially when RL weather doesn't suit your fancy. No problems with its use. For the sale price I paid, it was worth it.
  9. Though the wow effect of VR in standard titles is amazing, I've found in VR that mouse look combined with WSAD motion control turns me green with motion sickness almost immediately. I'm happy for those who don't have this problem. BTW, I have no problems in VR with playing HF Alyx, nor any fightsim including doing WW I aerial combat.
  10. Take comfort in the fact that people have been unintentionally doing this for years, and there's a good chance that you won't be the last.
  11. Got to wonder why that site reported contradicting rumor mongering info. I'll be watching the WMR situation as it unfolds, at least it's demise will be an iron-clad excuse to retire my G2 for something better.
  12. I use a 3080ti which I got over two years ago and which I soon paired with the Reverb G2 revised. Spent a not so small fortune on that gcard back in '21, but it was money well spent IMO and I have no immediate plans to upgrade it. A good friend got a 4080 for his G2 when the 4080 first released and he's very happy with it. Definitely a noticeable improvement over my 3080 ti, from first hand experience, though I've read posts from 4080 owners that regret that they didn't get a 4090. The unfortunate bottom line is that IMHO no gcard at this time can fully satisfy the capabilities for better visuals which VR can deliver in MSFS, plus MSFS DX12 consumes VRAM in such quantities that at times even 16GB may not be adequate.
  13. Sort of goofed up my instructions. The list entry must be double-clicked for the S and - to work. (Edit: glad you figured that one out, excellent!) Seems my issue with MSFS hanging after ending a flight is due to using VR, which I do exclusively. I find that if I exit VR mode before going back to the main menu, MSFS doesn't hang. A slight inconvenience, but when I end a flight I usually exit MSFS soon afterwards anyways.
  14. I also initially experienced the problem you've described. Brought the app back to "operating normally" by deleting the install directory (which effectively uninstalls the app) and running the installer again followed by a windows restart. BTW, the above 'instructions' is a reprint of the app's README file. The '+' button add a new pair, though its use is what I call "brittle" in that if used incorrectly it seems to FU the app. The correct use is to first make sure no existing AGL/xLOD list entry is selected, then input a AGL/xLOD pair in the empty boxes and then click '+'. The '-' button deletes the currently selected AGL/xLOD list entry (but don't try to delete the first entry). To change an existing AGL/xLOD list entry, select it, update its values and click 'S'. All self explanatory, right? 😄 I find that the app works great when I first bring up a flight and start it, but usually after I finish the flight MSFS eventually hangs. Once that hang resulted in Windows being hung as well, requiring a power off to get thing knocked loose. I was dreading that power on sequence, half expecting the dreaded BSOD but fortunately it didn't happen. Anyone else see this behavior, I'm now at the point of abandoning the app. BTW I do notice the difference, but I fly GA usually at FL80-100. Mountainous terrain has noticeable more detail, that is if you're looking to see that detail.
  15. This is brilliant! I've been wanting this exact functionality for months/years. Wanted to get the original version of this mod a year or so ago, but missed getting it before the dev took down the .exe file. This incarnation does exactly what it says it does quite well, once you figure out what it does. Bravo! Since this mod works so succinctly, MSFS 2024 better have this feature since it is soooo needed.
  16. I find that the graphics for the sun is a compromise towards being way too forgiving, in that IRL looking/glancing directly at the unobscured sun is blinding. Obviously one doesn't do that purposefully, but there can be situations when flying where it's difficult not to do.
  17. Though I've moved along to MSFS a while ago, still got to praise the DX10 fixer and its cloud shadows for the immersive life it breathed into FSX. I used the product since it first started off as a free dlls.
  18. The OP is looking at the 7950X3D, not the 7800X3D. Way different CPU that's considerably more expensive and has issues with gaming/sim uses as noted by the vid link above. Given the OP's situation I'd go for the 14900.
  19. That's a meaningful drop in temps, glad you got control of the problem you were having. Though you're no longer thermal throttling, a consistent 85c is still rather hot IMHO. My computer usually runs MSFS in the mid 60s, with infrequent and short lived excursions into the low-mid 80s. Bottom line is if you're back to where you were, Happy Contrails!
  20. Here is an excellent tool for monitoring all aspects of CPU performance, it'll reveals all you need to know if your system is thermal throttling. Good lucky in your endeavors. https://www.hwinfo.com/download/ BTW, I've been using this tools for years.
  21. Somewhat a wild guess here, but I recently had a very similar "overnight" significant drop in FPS, especially in high density areas. Three things fixed it for me, two which you've already done, which are to delete and rebuild the MSFS rolling cache and clear all nvidia driver caches. The third was to quit using DX12 and go back to DX11, for DX12 now uses nearly 50% more of your gcard's vram than DX11. FPS is seriously lowered when the gcard's vram space is depleted; there is no warning when this happens other than a dramatic performance drop. Hope this helps. Edit: whenever you switch between DX versions in MSFS, clear the nvidia caches before restarting MSFS.
  22. This topic caught my attention since recently I've dropped using DX12 since at times my 3080 ti was choking due to a lack of vram. As a VR user FG is irrelevant to me even if I had a 40 series card. I subjectly experience no detriment to using DX11 so switching back to it was painless. But I feel for those where FG is as necessary as having good AA, thus using DX12 is not optional (nor seemingly is owning a $$$$ 4090). It'll be crushing if MSFS 2024 only supports DX12 and also has this excessive vram use. I'd like to think that there's a future solution to this issue that doesn't consist of either seriously lowering the display resolution and/or settings, or spending $$$$ on a new gcard.
  23. What is strange is that I've used DX12 in the past, that is pre SU13, with my rtx 3080 ti and I don't recall having vram usage issues like I see now. IMO DX12 is now a rather useless feature unless your have a 4090 or are not driving 4k or higher resolutions, e.g. VR. Besides, I imagine that "DX12 beta" development is now probably at EOL for MSFS. Who knows what to expect with DX12 use in MSFS 2024, it'll be a bummer if that will also be tanking most gcards. BTW, I have neither HAGS or Game Mode enabled, nor have I ever regularly used those features.
  24. One massive difference I've experienced lately with SU13 and DX12 is that DX12 increases vram use by about 50%! At least with my settings running my sig spec system, I found that in DX11 my MSFS vram use is around 7.6GB, and just switching it to DX12 bumps it up to near or over 11GB. In some areas I've maxed my vram past 12GB, which completely craters my FPS down to 20 fps. I usually get a smooth 48 fps, which is value of my frame rate limit. BTW, this is all experienced in VR but I've seen the same problems show up in 2D. For now I'm shelving DX12 indefinitely. Curious is anyone else has noticed this vram surge in DX12, though I imagine if you got a gcard with 16GB or more this problem is probably moot.
  25. My #1 feature missing in MSFS is save/restore flight. I'm always surprised that this seems a non-issue. I guess that I'm just not hardcore enough about immersion to always, in a contiguous time span, complete a flight that I've started.
