  1. +1 here! Here’s what I understood from the recent Dev’s Q&A: ASOBO is aware of discrepancies resulting from mixing METAR data with the weather system and are now delving deeper into this mixing process. One major change will be that the METAR data will be delivered to Meteoblue to get integrated into the weather model. Then there’s need for better integration of the Meteoblue data with the rendering engine, and that seems to be a tricky one they are still working on and should solve the visibility descrepancies by better taking clouds, fog and aerosols into account. The timeline for those seems to be the end of this year, and then there seems to be a far better resolution of the weather model in the works with a timeline of roughly end of 2022.
  2. I think Orbx will need to rethink their approach to MSFS - but that's just me looking from a frog's perspective. I am a long time customer and I have already purchased several MSFS addons via their convenient OrbxDirect tool. But I have to say since MSFS the best pieces of work are mostly from their "partner" developers (Gaya, Pilotplus, Digital Design - to name just a few), not Orbx themselves. And their recently introduced "Throwback" series (EGHI, EGPB) literally throws you back to FSX days qualitywise imho and is only bearable with the discount in the first two days - if ever. I am for sure not going to buy sub par quality for ever only because it is discounted. Over time it will definitely shape my view of a developer or brand, and there are other tools like Contrail or MSFS Addon linker to manage addon airports comfortably. That said, there are still some talented developers over there and I hope some of the upcoming sceneries will be better. In the end it will all depend on sales figures, not on opinions....
  3. Simming since FS4 days, got my ppl because of that - and never went back to P3D/FSX since day1 - go figure!
  4. I stand corrected! The CJ4 didn't show the frequency in the "Arrival data" and usually in these case it didn't tune, so I manually inserted the frequency . I rechecked today with a flightplan EGHI/EGHI and it didn't tune at first (on the ground), but in flight it did. I never encountered this before, but all in all it seems I was a bit rash...
  5. It was one of my favourites too, but Orbx seems to introduce a "Throwback" line of products, meaning a rework of the original assets. 29Palms as the original developers don't seem to be involved, and after a cursory visit I have to say it shows as the airport is nothing to write home about. It fits well in the photogrammetry area, but I noticed some low resolution textures with buildings, no special attention to detail landside (debatable of course) and - as with all Orbx airports - the ILS autotune function in the CJ4 or A320 will not work as they failed to integrate the necessary data. Grab it for the introductory price as you can do nothing wrong there - but be aware of the limits. It's certainly not worse than the older versions, but hey - we are in 2021 now! Just my first impression and certainly subjective.
  6. For what it's worth: Here's a (weather) report of my recent flight from Samos (LGSM) to Reggio Calabria (LICR) showing that weather depiction in the sim can be very accurate, apart from the occasional lightning issue.
  7. Great! Purchased KTPF only two days ago - sometimes you lose....😁 (if the devs win, so be it!)
  8. The topic comes up every two days or so. Here's one possible solution (it's contained in the link @737_800 provided, but as that thread seems a bit convoluted, I thought I point to the seemingly most succesful solution) In addition to Chock's proposal after reboot it could be necessary to go to your Windows Store → 3-dot-menu → Downloads and Updates → Check updates Gaming Services should install now without issue.
  9. In the current state of Live Weather I believe it depends on where your flying takes place. I am flying in Europe and I'm mostly satisfied with the accuracy of Live weather so far (after they fixed several issues like weather loading 12 hours in advance, stuck weather for weeks or lightning all over the place). However, as I also like to take the occasional flight in Florida, my expierience differs as I am under the impression that LIve weather isn't able to depict the local weather satisfactory. I think it has to do with the Meteoblue weather model having difficulties to depict building thunderstorms due to lability in the atmosphere alone contrary to the cold front related convection we mostly encounter in Europe. So i often see whispy clouds with lightning where there should be towering cumulus or CBs, and the airport weather - aside from the METAR based wind, temperature and QNH - often doesn't come close to what you can expect from satellite imagery or see in webcam pictures. The potential is there, but the implementation still needs to go a long way to deserve the title "Live". Thankfully it was promised in one of the Q&A's that they would redo the weather implementation some day.
  10. Anyone having the same problem: You might find (another) solution here:
  11. 100%, though not so sure if they're from Aerosoft - but I didn't find any other simobjects than the Aerosoft ones in my MSFS directory. Nothing, they appeared with SU4. I changed "use generic aircraft for AI" to ON to get rid of them for better performance.
  12. Not for me You might want to try this file path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.16.2.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe It works for me with the MS Store version. You have to change the version number with each update obviously. I use it to disable "Full Screen Optimization". However, according to quite a few reports on the Net you should not meddle with folder permissions as this could have adverse results on the operating system.
  13. Imho it's all about awareness on side of the devs. Are you sure they know what you encounter? The "weather for the next day-loading-in-advance-at-2000z-bug" was present from launch until 2 days ago and solved only because some users persistantly dug into the issue and pinpointed it to what it was.
  14. That would be this thread. However, I think voting is one thing, assisting in determining the cause is another - and needed imho. I just answered to a user in the MSFS forums complaining he has lightning at KERV where in real life there is not. I think this is because clouds, precipitation and - i think - lightning is simulated in the sim based on a forecast model from Meteoblue. And here is how the CAPE index for the area of KERV looks: The CAPE index marks the amount of energy in the atmosphere and is therefore an indicator for the probability of thunderstorms. I think we will have to accept that “Live weather” is more or less a closed system within the simulator that resembles the basic conditions of the atmosphere in real life - and it does that amazingly good imho. However, this includes atmospheric phenomena being simulated where in real life they are not present. Thunderstorms are the best example, because even modern technology is not able to predict where they emerge - if they are not caused by a moving cold front. So it is reasonable - based on the forecast model - to simulate lightning in the KERV area, even if it isn't present in real life. It could be, according to the forecast model, and that's why MSFS is simulating it. It's my guesswork, but I think it's reasonable. I also think what we need are means to access the in-game weather as it is simulated. Injecting real life METAR data is only an interim solution imho, as I think we need a sim-based METAR system we can use to plan our flights - and that would have TS included in this case. Long story short: If you want the lightning issue changed I think you need to participate in the discussion in the aforementioned thread and provide data to let the devs determine the cause of the issue: and that would be: date, time, location, your observation in comparison to the real life situation - at best accompanied by screenshots in-game and from Meteoblue data.
  15. I noticed some stuttering on airports after SU4. And I noticed quite a few CRJ aircraft on every airport I flew to. I checked them, and I guess they were Aerosoft CRJ models with full poly count. So if you have installed the CRJ or other 3rd party aircraft you might want to set "use generic aircraft for AI" (sorry, don't know the exact wording - but you'll find out for sure) in your settings. For me it resolved the issue - but I have to live with those ugly standard aircraft.
  16. While I share many of the arguments above and encourage you to try MSFS with the game pass option I fear you have picked a bad time for your decision due to the worldwide chip shortage. Look carefully for current offers, especially when it comes to Nvida cards. They are nearly 100% more expensive than 6 months ago ( I kick myself in the a++ for not getting an RTX 3090 while they still were "only" 1.500 Euros - the same goes for the price/value champion RTX 3080 - if you can get one in the first place).
  17. I purchased an "early access pledge" once and ended up waiting nearly 4 years for a certain twin-engine-turboprop in P3D. No complaints, I knew what I was doing. While I get the idea behind this business model (which the developer of said aircraft has since then abandoned for obvious reasons) I decided that for me it's better to wait for the finished product. That's just me...
  18. The longstanding bug that now seems solved was Live Weather loading clouds and precipitation data from the Meteoblue weather forecast model for the following day instead of the actual one at around 2000Z and the same data again - now correctly - around 0900Z. So the real test of that fix can only take place between 2000Z and 0900Z the next day, and it has passed once yet. Indeed -fingers crossed! As clouds and precipitation are based on a forecast model, it is worth noting that some fuzziness is to be expected, while Temps, Wind and QNH are imported from METAR data and represent actual values. Big thanks to the users at the official forum for their efforts in persistently reporting their observations (basically since launch) and thus pinpointing the issue in the first place. I didn't even notice something was wrong until the 1.15.10 update.
  19. After cursory testing the basic engine behaviour is finally plausible, startup according to checklist is possible, handling seems fine, however the landing gear still has no noticeable drag. Ground steering needs some improvement too as tight turns are hard to achieve, even with differential braking. So I think if the mod is changed by deleting the engine related items it's still valuable - and I'm missing my co-pilot.
  20. Imho MSFS is flawed (my Live weather is stuck since days!!!) and it doesn't live up to the advertisement (stock aircraft word probably not allowed), but I haven't used any other Sim since launch - because besides everything else it's that good! I am confident that PMDG will manage to adjust with every Sim update, although I'm also aware that this may take some time in some instances. On the other hand: If a company states it is "all in" - what choice do they have? Speaking of "all in": Aerosoft is, now RSR claimed to be "all in", and we are yet to hear from FSLabs and Majestic. Any bets?
  21. For me terminating the update manually when it said "installing" endlessly and then restarting the pc did the trick. One hour or so later the store offered the update again and it installed within seconds. Maybe worth a try...
  22. Hard to say to which extent each issue will be tackled as they stretched many over several Sim updates. Besides icing and radio phraseology we should see Garmin G1000/G3000 & Autopilot Related Issues | Several Releases| Sim Update 4,5,6 Live Weather and Wind Readings Not Accurate | Several |  Sim Update 4,5,6 😡🥵🙏 Turboprop Engine Logic Issues | Several Releases| Sim Update 4,5,6 LOD Problems – Trees, Water | Several Releases | Sim Update 4,6 Approach Flyback Bug | Started | SU 4 Tree Density | Several Releases | Sim Update 4,6 Considering the 1.15.10 update and the "fix" for Live Weather, that actually made it worse for me and resulted in Live weather now "stuck" for many days (it's still from May17th.) I fear the worst.....(but still have hope)
