If you're on the fence you might want to stay there b/c as you say, it will come up for sale again. Random notes: - On the one hand, this is a $20 aircraft and the MD11 is about $80. Is the PMDG at least 4X better than this one? Absolutely. - On the other hand, for $20 I don't feel cheated. It's better than Virtualcol, not as good as Qualitywings or Capt Sim. I'll get my money out of her. - The VC texture isn't bad. The 2D popups look like leftovers from Version 1 of this AC, they're poor. - The engineer's panel is rather functional though as Murfman says, may not be realistic. Much of the overhead switches are non-functional; IRS alignment, wipers. Just enough functionality to run through a decent simulated startup procedure. - The FMS is useless though to be fair I don't know this AC was flown with one. It provides v speeds and little else. The AC will follow a FSX flight plan. I'm fiddling with an ISG Panels integration which seems to work. - The VAS is awful. I don't dare to run in P3D, which handles VAS worse for me. In FSX, I flew between payware KATL and KSFO and just barely made it, about 400 MB left at touchdown. Switch to external view on the ground at your own risk, that nearly OOM'd me at the takeoff gate. - Frames are OK on this 2700 processor OC'd to 4.7 - She has a mode control panel but I don't think it's working properly. - She doesn't have the 'heavy' feel of other payware heavies. Taxis smartly, rotates quickly. However, she isn't overpowered on the climb, seems sluggish if anything. - There is a TCAS but it provides no aural alert, just a visual cue of the AC you're about to have a midair with. - I can't see where to adjust the minimums bug - She has a functioning mach hold, but the AP otherwise seems stock FSX. Followed the ILS reasonably well on the one landing I've made. Maybe some fixes will materialize in SP1? I've no confidence in that - so far I've seen zero response from either JF or CLS to any of the issues users have raised. If so great,if not it is what it is. At full price of $37.99? No way. At $20? OK. A year+ from now, at one of JF's $8 sales? Absolutely.

You can use a pop-up. I've integrated the ISG panels FMS suite; works well enough. If you search for "captain sim 727 isg panels" you'll learn more, but a number of links point you toward the Captain SIm forums which appear down right now

You might want to try deleting the profile in FSUIPC.ini and start from scratch. I use it on this bird with a CH throttle quad with no issues

The Battlefield Airlifter is OK. It went through a couple of iterations and finally has stable systems and a decent flight mode though, like other Iris planes I've had, it seems to fly 'flat' for some reason. Beautiful exterior, decent VC that's somewhat fictionalized b/c Iris doesn't have access to the real aircraft. The VC is pretty functional with a (optional) precise startup sequence. An unconvincing sound set. On sale - probably worth it.

1024 is usually the max texture resolution I can use with my payware jetliners. I can use 2048/4096 with simple props like the Aerosoft Twin Otter

I search for all files containing "egll" in my P3D folder and subfolders. Then I filter by the ".bgl" file extension. From there, you can tell pretty easily by the files' folder extension which ones you want active and which you want to disable. Per a long-ago suggestion on the MyTraffic forum, I add the filename extension ".passive" to all the unwanted files. This has the advantages of (a) leaving the files in their proper folders in case you want to revert and (b) employs a common file naming mechanism for all BGL files you've chosen to disable over the years.

I've been running an Asus P8Z77-V motherboard on a homebuilt PC for 3 years with no issues. Suddenly today I have USB connection problems with my flight controllers. I have several items plugged into USB: CH yoke, CH pedals, CH throttle quadrant, Logitech joystick, Logitech mouse, and two external drives. The flight controllers suddenly have connection problems, with the USB connection cutting in and out (making that Windows soft "dong" USB connection sound). This happens plugging different controllers into different ports - all four controllers, or just one. However the mouse connection remains steady, and plugging a USB thumb drive into a port works fine also. It's almost as if the flight controllers, which presumably require more power to operate, suddenly don't have the steady power they did before. However the two external drives (one with its own power plug, but the other without) have no connection issues. No Windows updates were installed before this happened. There are two notable events in the last 24 hours I recall: (a) the watercooled i2700 processor was running at 80 degrees (hot day here; Tjmax=98 deg), and (b) I somehow installed a malware "SmartSaver +15" program which I had to remove with MalAware. I've not yet tried updating BIOS or anything else as I can't imagine what would bring on a sudden failure like this, thought I'd start by seeing if this issue rings a bell with anyone

Wish I'd written the errors down, there were several. As I recall I had EICAS messages showing generator failures plus bus failures. I recall the ELEC status page showed yellow "X" boxes for all 4 generators. Guess I'll chalk this one up to an anomaly, thanks for the detailed response.

Checking to see if a recent 777 failure event was realistic or an anomaly. With random failures enabled (1 per 10 hours, no limit on count), I lost both primary and both secondary generators at once. The RAM air turbine automatically deployed; I started the APU and got most power back. A general question: Is this in fact a realistic failure scenario or more likely a quirk? A more specific question: As part of this event, I lost both port (left) side fuel pumps; presumable the APU/RAM combination would not power them. The port side tanks subsequently would not feed fuel even with all crossfeeds enabled. Is this expected behavior in this type of event?

I discovered my problem (post 5) was my VA's ACARS software triggers my TCAS off during its nitiation sequence for some reason.

I've noticed this behavior on the ground but not in the air - often during pushback/startup the TCAS will reset to 'off.' It happens periodically but not always, and has not been enough of a bother to dig into it, but I'll do so now.

Fairly decent sums it up. I have this and the "other" L1011. This one has 2D popups which is convenient, a FMC (though the 'other' will follow a FSX flight plan via CIVA INS mod), and hand flies better - the 'other' can be a real pig on approach. Better documentation too. The 'other' has vastly superior VC graphics and more complexity. The best 3-holer remains the PMDG MD11 I think.

+1. It's not as crisp as PMDG's later offerings but perfectly useable - "good" not "great." The J41's VC is crisper, and both are great aircraft to fly - get them both if you can

Sounds like you're doing everything right Stanner. I'd consider a reinstall, and/or a visit to the FS Commander forum where the program author Volker (?) should be able to help sort this out

I tried to like it and couldn't. Plastic-y VC, unconvincing flight model, so-so sound, some nav/com switches difficult to work with, and an odd expanded rendition of the FSX GPS. Much of the VC is clickable, not all. I just received notice about a second update to the original and didn't bother with it.
