  1. Erghhh, PC Pro... Comic books.. Theres a good reason when I go into the datacentre, 75% of all the racks, including all of my racks are all Dell kit.... Same goes for schools, offices, government, emergency services, retail etc. You dont see Dell kit everywhere for no good reason. Its dependable, and reliable. Want to customise it, no problem, just swap out the systemboard and away you go (on most gaming PC's) and you can then overclock to your hearts content, but if you dont want to overclock, and want stability, rock solid stability, then for me, and thousands of customers, its Dell kit mate... My laptop was £2000 on Dells website, with no in-home warranty, that was an extra £300, but our local reseller did it for £1000, with the 3yr in home next day warranty. Same story for hundreds of our customers, last one few weeks ago got a £1200 gaming PC for £650, with the next day 3yr in home warranty and Win 7 64bit, intel i7 quad core 3.6, 8GB ram (RAM costs peanuts these day too), so he got top whack spec, SSD drive too, for a touch over half price, and delivered next day.. Not just the money though, but stability and performance.. If you want to build it yourself, then go with ASUS kit, but if your not confident to do that, then I'd pick Dell kit every time, its the same hardware as elsewhere, fraction of the cost, and covered for years... Scan wont be using any hardware you wont get in a Dell, only you will be paying a lot more for it.. Dell do get a hard time because of the indian call centres, and boy I hate those too, but I never use them... Never had to.. Just some food for thought...
  2. Ray Running Win7 64bit here, with 32GB memory and 2 x 512GB SSD's in RAID0, and have no problems at all with a disabled pagefile, so far. Have been running this now for just over 12 months. The only thing you may see is repeated errors in your windows event viewer, which are caused by having no pagefile, but thats it. Its fast, really fast, and causes me no problems at all. Oh, and if your after a high spec PC, I can give you the contact details of an Awesome Dell reseller who sells pretty much any PC Dell sells, but around 50% or 60% of its cost, and includes the 3yr in home next day warranty. Dell PC's are freakin awesome if you get a high spec gaming one, and their service is pretty good too... VERY stable computers. Wouldnt touch SCAN for all the tea in china though.. But hey, I've only been working in I.T for 20 yrs..
  3. Tried SPAD a few times, then removed it.. Saitek drivers work perfectly for me, but to get the radio to dial correctly, you need to remove the FS9/FS2004 drivers... I did that and now my radio panels work just fine. Seems FSX tries to load both sets of drivers every time it runs, thus the tuning inaccuracy problems, which are solved simply by removing the drivers you are not using, from the start menu and the saitek folder..
  4. As your using ActiveSky, you might be able to tune your radio into the ATIS at your dsestination simply by setting the frequency to 122.02 This works in AS2012 (Its in the user manual), but not sure about ASE You can also decode the METAR for Europe using this: http://www.homepages.mcb.net/bones/Aviation/METAR.htm
  5. Hiya Bozdog This problem sounds like either 1 of only 2 things... Your USB Hub cant provide enough amps to run these Your CPU cant keep up with FSX and running these at the same time. I've been down the exact same road as you, but with 6 of these panels.. Initially, I suffered with 4 out of the 6 randomly passing out on me, just becoming totally dead or blacking out on me for minutes at a time as the first powered USB hub I had couldnt provide enough juice, so I changed it for a Belkin slim 7 port hub, which made a huge difference, and the panels could run for quite a while, but then I found that instead of 4 out of 6 of them freezing up, it went down to 2 out of 6 randomly freezing up, but they no longer blacked out on me, they would just freeze up for 30 seconds at a time.. I also run all of the saitek panels, had the yoke and twin throttle quadrants too, rudder pedals etc... Turns out that these panels eat up a LOT of CPU juice, which given that FSX is a major CPU hog, was a problem. The solution is to plug them all into a seperate PC and run them via simconnect. Doesnt matter what PSU is iin your PC, thats not the problem, its the actual physical amps they draw from your USB hub, combined with the CPU usage to run them.. My PC has a 1200w PSU, and is an i7 quad, overclocked to 4.8, and that isnt enough to push 6 of these with all the other stuff plugged in too.. I simply sold them all and use TrackIR instead to look around the virtual cockpit.. I spent ages going over this problem with Madcatz too, who kept telling me I didnt have enough power to run 6 of them, even with my quad core i7 @ 4.8 and 4amps in my USB hub, and they kept telling me to run them via simconnect off another PC. I sold 2 of my panels to a chap that runs 10 of them on an overclocked 6core CPU, and he said that even on his system, every now and then a few of them black out or freeze up for a bit, and he used simconnect on another PC to run them.. I bet if you unplug all your other Saitek panels, you may find that these run ok, or when flying at times/altitudes where your CPU is not working hard, these panels may be fine.
  6. I am in total amazement that this thread even exists, and almost all of the post in it... This is why I stopped visiting AVSim... Madness...
  7. It only says: Just wondered what the composite parts are, and are made of..
  8. Wow, these look awesome.. Having some problems with the website though, a lot of links just keep loading the same page.. I'd love to test them out and post a review... There is definately a gap in the market for some high quality pedals between the plastic crap thats out there and the thousands of $ sets for jet sims.. Are they made of Plywood or something else, as it only says composite...?
  9. I'll second that. I bought the Carenado 172 and its great...
  10. Thats an awesome question, I wouldnt mind knowing the answers to these :-)
  11. Wow, the crap you guys put yourselves through... Although, I did it too, so I'm just as bad.. I now make only 3 tweaks to my .CFG file and thats it, smooth happy flying now... The worst time with the most problems for me was when I was just getting started in FSX and was trying all sorts of guides, tweaks and so on, which were a nightmare. Now, I just make 3 tweaks to the CFG and go enjoy smooth, stutter free flying..
  12. carenado.com is working fine from here in the UK..
  13. Lexi Not sure if this helps, but Vroute premium I believe lets you create your entire flight plan in a few clicks, and export it to tons of different types, such as PMDG Flight plans etc, so no more clicking and entering in the CDU to setup the flight plan... It connects to VATSim too, and obviously can be used for non-VA flights... I'm a total newbie to all this though....
  14. You wont use 12 levers for any 4 engine setup mate.... 2 quadrants is enough...
  15. Thanks for that Jim, that alone almost makes it worth buying XPax for, just for that roller coaster experience..
  16. No prob's... This is how you can now see the problem is not your computer, but a connectivity issue between AT&T's routing kit, and the next step along the path. Look forward to seeing the tracerts of any more users who cant access the Aivlasoft website. Might be worth emailing aivlasoft to ask if they have any blocks in place for anything starting 151.164.x.x
  17. @@Dutch1 - So, you can see from your screenshot, that your AT&T providers routing kit @ 151.164.40.110 cant find the Aivlasoft website.. Now lets see any other tracerts from AT&T users having issues. See if a similar pattern builds up.
  18. Again, NOT something that is required nor has any affect on FSX. I disabled UAC on my PC, as I dont need it, but this endless tirade of "Dont install it in its default location", in my experiences so far, are all nonsense. Earlier versions of Windows, maybe, just maybe at a push, especially Vista, yeah, can totally see that being the case, but NOT Win7 onwards. Maybe if you have pants security software on your PC that is more paranoid, and has more false positives than a HIV test clinic using recycled needles, sure...
  19. Hi Guys Out of interest, has anybody ever tried to get 2 Saitek Backlit information panels working on the same sim setup? Was just thinking this tonight, how cool it would be to not have to choose tiles based on the aircraft, and just have 2 panels working at once, and I have access to 2 panels if I really really want to get a second to try it out, but wanted to ask first if anybody has tried it and had any success? Thanks
  20. Almost looks like its shorter than the Saitek shaft..?
  21. Arjen, It will NOT short circuit. Sounds like you dont even know what a short circuit is... All it will keep doing is stop working because there is not enough power to run it. What your saying is, if something doesnt have enough power, repeatedly, eventually it will short circuit... It wont. It just wont work properly. Its not like other items where it will just pull the current it needs and burn out the wiring, it cant, it will either work with what its supplied, or it will not work correctly. It wont go off completely, but it will start acting very weird and become intermittent. Arjen: Where is it listed that short circuiting is a known problem for Saitek pro-flight yokes? I'd like to read up on that and see if I can do anything to prevent my 2 yokes from doing it..
  22. Thats not a contradiction art all, you either go the "Acceleration" route which has its own SP1/2 built into it, or you dont... If you dont, then you install SP1/2.. I dont even know if the acceleration pack "breaks" shared cockpits" NOR did I say that... I just seem to have problems in shared cockpits that non-acceleration users dont, so I took the option of a re-install without acceleration. There isnt actually anything to comment on, its your choice, which way you want your install to go, either the acceleration route, or non-acceleration route, depends on your flying.. You may well find that after a while you decide you want to fly jets and do carrier stuff, thus the acceleration would be needed it seems, but I'm not an FSXpert... Thats just my own experiences of FSX in the last 10 months of having more setup time than flying time by a factor of 10x
  23. @@Dutch1... You need to uplad the image somewhere on the internet, then link to it in your post using the "Insert media" icon..
  24. There is another one that doesnt cost a penny,(Synergy) and is very good, BUT, if you accidentally move the mouse off the side of the screen from FSX, it makes FSX go a bit nuts, freezes up etc, so I uninstalled it and just didnt bother, so while the software will let you control your laptop screen using the same mouse/keyboard, to have that physical connection like a true second screen, it wont perform the same as its not running direct from your graphics card nor feeding from the CPU workload, as it relies on your internal network. If you just want to run applications on your laptop to take the load of your main PC, and to be able to view EFB and FSX at the same time, then you really dont need to add any extra software at all. Go download the EFB app, install it and read the manual it comes with. Their activation server is having issues at the moment, so you may not be able to activate it.. I cant currently activate mine, thus cannot use it until they fix their bloody activation server, so I have emailed them instead.
