  1. I just downloaded some HD Mesh V3 for North America to try out in XP 11. I noticed that it will take a bit of file manipulation to get all the subfolders into the proper configuration for installation. Not hard, but maybe a bit time consuming. Anyone come up with a good hack to extract all the individual subfolders into one Earth Nav Data folder?
  2. I'm still running a 670 card and P3D works fine for me. And, I have 4 monitors hooked up to it. Besides your P3D settings...what other software do you have running in the background? I don't mean P3D related software (like weather programs, etc) but other programs and utilities that load in the background when your computer starts? Another thing I'd check are your CPU and GPU temps while the sim is running. I've learned this from experience. You think you have a stable overclock and temps will skyrocket under load in the sim. The CPU and GPU will automatically throttle back to prevent damage and its actually equivalent to a massive under-clocking (if not a system crash).
  3. Is there a noticeable effect on the water/waves?
  4. I don't ever recall LM announcing an incremental update (ie 3.4 -> 3.5). Like someone said above, they just "drop" those on us. Maybe I just don't notice. This seems to be a bigger update. "A whole new [virtual] world" seems to be a pretty obvious indicator of something substantial. My guess is P3D v4 64 bit or a new rendering engine.
  5. I look forward to next year's comparison.
  6. What is the center MFC generally used for during the flight?
  7. Is there a way to tweak the speed of the car traffic--specifically, to slow it down? I seem to recall that there was a file you could alter in fsx. I'm looking to do it in P3D v3.4
  8. For some time I've thought (and hoped) that a 3rd party dev would come along and offer a fully dynamic campaign simulation add-on for P3D. Basically, mirror what Falcon 4.0 did (and its community derivatives, like BMS). That is, an ongoing simulated war that unfolds over time and keeps track of allied/enemy inventory and losses; has critical supply routes, etc. You could actually just sit in the menu view and watch the war unfold on the map in real time, and watch as the computer generates missions that you can fly or the computer will simulate. Seems like Tac Pack and FSX@War are preliminary steps in that direction, but nobody offers a truly dynamic campaign. And, as for AI forces... why can't VRS or someone else add this to P3D? Doesn't seem like there should be any limitation in the program itself?
  9. Could you take some pictures or video to share? I started in fsx, transitioned to P3D v1.x, v2 and now am running v3.3. I don't have any pictures or video of fsx or p3d v2 to look back upon. But I really don't think of the water in v3 as being bad at all. I think it looks pretty good. Granted, I have REX, shader modifiers and other add-ons in play.
  10. Do the AI Ships (located in the library here) work in P3D v3.3?
  11. That's really too bad. I was very close to buying this as it looks great in the pictures... but if a buyer pays for a P3D version, it should at least work with default P3D settings.
  12. I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar (F-16 stick/throttle) and was wondering if anyone has aircraft specific control setups for some military aircraft? I have the Aerosoft F-14X and F-18 Superbug, running P3D v3.35 (current). Anyone have some stick/throttle proflies for these jets that they'd like to share? Thanks-
  13. I recall it was a German company that had an app (free and payware) that many people here use, that lets you setup P3D (aircraft, location, time, etc) and launches P3D with that setup....can't recall the name....
  14. I have the paid version of Macrium and can attest that it is a great hard drive "imaging" program. (I use other software for selected backups, as opposed to creating images). That said, I do have a question for those in the know. At one time I was creating sequential backup images of my C: drive at various stages of software (and flight software) installation. At times I'd roll back to an older image. Oddly, I ran into some activation problems with P3D and PMDG. I couldn't figure it out at the time, but now question whether it had to do with re-imaging my C drive. With the caveat that the USB stick has to have the capacity of the data on your hard drive. Otherwise, the USB just serves as the "rescue disc." I have a NAS box on my network and save disc images there (since my C drive averages about 300 gigs of used space). An additional hard drive attached to your computer does the same thing. Reboot with the USB rescue and select the image (on a network attached storage device, other hard drive, etc.) you want to install to C, and it does the rest.
  15. Not to go off topic, but how did you fix it? I haven't flown in a couple of weeks but recall seeing spinning clouds in 3.2. I can't stand it.
  16. Yea, I'd also like to know what this is and if it has to do with the "spinning clouds" issue. Didn't find anything in the learning center on the p3d site.
  17. That was my same exact error. Just start the P3D installer (setup.exe) and it will basically say "P3D is already installed, would you like to repair it?" There will be a "repair" button. It replaces missing or modified files, but doesn't change settings or add-ons.
  18. In case this helps anyone-- I was originally using the Realism Shader Pack v1.1 (very nice tool) and likely goofed things up when I gave this PTA tool a try. Had some errors. I just ran the P3D "repair" tool and everything was back to stock. Then tweaked it with PTA and it looks gorgeous. Pics to follow later.
  19. What 3rd party aircraft carrier was that?
  20. That fsx@war looks very interesting. I had heard of it a while ago but never really followed it. I love the idea that they are trying to put together a dynamic campaign. I've always wanted to fly fsx (of course now P3D) that had a dynamic campaign like good old Falcon 4.0. With the entire earth modeled in P3D, you could do some really incredible things, like international military supply chains (air, sea and land), troop levels, ammo levels, etc. Anyway back on topic...sorta... does anyone make a good U-2? Not a fighter, but certainly military and tough to fly. My understanding is the "coffin corner" on it at altitude is something like 5 or 10 knots.
  21. ahhh, would you look at that. I may have to get that. Does it have AI planes that you can dog fight against?
  22. I've been wanting to try the VRS Superbug F/A-18... especially for some dog fighting. But, it seems the tac pack doesn't support the current version of P3D.
