MSFS at Gamescom @ 11:11AM Eastern
MrFuzzy replied to Tuskin38's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
If you say so... today, even if you increase the settings above Ultra, you cannot reach the graphics quality of the sim pre XBox release. There were dozens of threads on the official forum, in which hundreds of people complained about graphics degradation on PC with SU5: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/search?q=su5 graphics SU5 = XBox release SU5 = dramatic RAM and VRAM usage drop SU5 = dramatically increased performance on PC Never seen a conspiracy theory with so much evidence supporting it. All hallucinating? https://forums.flightsimulator.com/search?q=su5 graphics -
Some observations on what impacts FPS
MrFuzzy replied to Virtual-Chris's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
There's no difference as long as the view is fixed, but when you rotate the camera to look at your sides, 30 fps feels choppy even on a good real GSync monitor capable of 30 Hz (I have one). Are we still debating if there's difference between 30 and 60 fps in 2023? 🙂 -
It shouldn't make much difference... but assuming that the swap file is on the unit where the OS is, I'd suggest to install it in the empty one if you can. As for efficiency, you can avoid installing all the World Updates if you don't fly in certain parts of the world... and avoid using the rolling cache (in data settings), as it often causes stutters. Other than that, all is pretty straightforward. Happy flying 🙂

There is no feedback on these issues on the official forum either. Loading times are badly affected only for certain marketplace addons, it seems... with my limited number of addons I did not experience increased loading times. As for the stutters, I really hope they are due to beta telemetry... the increased popping in I saw today in a couple of test flight around Florence worries me though.

No, it mentions MSFS specifically: -

Well, it depends. If it's for gaming only, yes, but if he does other things with the PC (video editing, heavy multitasking, streaming...) then the 7950X3D is better. -

0xc0000005 is quite popular too 😄 -

I'll try 285, until now I just tried 300 and 400 and concluded that it's not worth it. In your case I think that also the 4090 plays a role, do you have frame gen on? Also, why don't you update to Windows 11? It has better support for your 13900K. -

I like it when people argue with such exhaustive information and evidence for the benefit of the entire forum 🙂 -
You cannot choose which build to use, once you reinstall it will always be updated to SU12 (or SU13 beta if you opt in). You can only avoid downloading the world updates from the content manager.

Fixed this for you 😄 I'm afraid that we will always be limited by the power of our PCs XBox Series S along with the archaic coding within msfs - which is one of the big reason for MSFS 2024 will run on Series S too.

Some observations on what impacts FPS

I did this in 2021 and I have to say that the results are still valid today... yes BTW, TLOD is the worst offender. -

Yes. A stutter is observed when the framerate drops to very low values for a brief moment or even to zero, as it happened in the early builds above large US cities. In that case the hiccup could last 1-2 seconds. You will continue to see them regardless of the CPU because even with a 50-60% upgrade in speed, instead of dropping from 40 to 5-10 fps it would drop from 60 to 7-15. You can have 60 fps on average - measured second by second - but 10 fps drops when the frametime suddenly spikes at 100 ms for whatever reason. The only way to avoid that is put the system (PC + software) in a condition in which stuttering does not occur at all: ideally GPU limited conditions all the time. And with TLOD @ 300-400 this is not possible. -

TLOD values higher than 200 cause stutters no matter what CPU you have. I can play with TLOD 200 / Ultra settings and virtually never see a stutter with my 7800X3D. For a long time 200 was the maximum TLOD allowed without tampering with the config file, then Asobo increased the slider at 400 because of people request. The aim was to recover what was lost with SU5 in terms of draw distance / graphics, however there were other issues as well (color depth and banding, grainy clouds, TAA degradation) and having SU5 greatly improved performance, the stutters caused by higher TLODs became even more evident, as they are today... We never got back completely what was lost with the XBox release. My suggestion is to stick with 200 and forget it.- 124 replies

Have you opted out of the beta? Please see the solution here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/toolbar-missing-after-exiting-su13-beta/604979/4?u=mrfuzzy1337

MSFS Third Anniversary Statistics
MrFuzzy replied to Tuskin38's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
LOL at the average landing success rate. -
Jeez... Actually, one of MS suggestions was to move the installation to a custom folder, also to avoid issues with beta versions. And I have to say that since I moved it to the short path "C:\MSFS Packages" I stopped having problems. Before, my logbook and consequently landing challenges and bush trips have been wiped twice following two sim updates (SU5 and SU7 if I remember well). This is something unacceptable from a *Microsoft* AAAAAA+ game and MUST be fixed. P.S. To OP, frankly the situation seems a total mess and if I were you, I'd clean reinstall both Windows and MSFS.

Same here, smooth as silk since I opted out of SU13 beta.

MSFS Update v 1.34.10.0 (BETA)
MrFuzzy replied to xenonsk's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
When XP12 was announced I hoped in a totally new engine and a partnership with Google Maps to fight MSFS on equal terms. Sadly, it didn't happen... -
How do you manage scenery?
MrFuzzy replied to Virtual-Chris's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Personally, I find external programs not very useful. I created a shortcut to a folder called _Addons (in this way it's always on top of the list) in the Community folder, and in the Addons folder there is another shortcut pointing to Community named _Community. I can just drag and drop instantly items from a folder to another and choose which ones to use. By the way since I upgraded to the 7800X3D my loading time is about 1'10" (!) with or without addons in the Community folder (40 GB) so I rarely touch it. -
DX12 and ground texture bleed through.
MrFuzzy replied to Wise87's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
I love it when at work people procrastinate 10 minutes tasks because they are busy with a 6-month project 🙂 Inefficient way of working and also very stressful, as many issues pile up in a mountain of s**t instead of being addressed rationally one by one. -

Or stay in the cockpit until takeoff... let's not forget that this issue affects only airports and only external views.
