  5. Hello, I've started flying helicopters in X-plane around Lincolnshire, UK and am trying to use RAF Cranwell, Waddington and Coningsby tacan's to navigate my way around. Whenever I enter a frequency into nav 1, and make it an active frequency I pick it up as DME, just not VOR. I personally thought tacan is basically a military version of a VOR, but it seems to me it's more like a DME. My question is am I write or wrong in my theory? Or is X-plane 10 portraying tacans in the wrong way (which I doubt) And also how do the military use tacan to navigate, and how can I start doing this? Thank you very much Conner.

  8. Receantly I saw that X-Plane 10 has version 10.40 going through beta stages. My question is can I update my X-Plane 10 Steam version 10.30 something to the newest beta version and if so, how to do that? Thanks in advance Marko Lisica

I am trying to install X-Plane10 on a very newish install of Ubuntu 15.1 (x64) I have followed this guide: but with the installer for X-Plane 10: and set up the link using ln -s /usr/lib32/ /usr/lib32/ The issue is that X-Plane will not start unless no sound is chosen (whereby it runs fine though quietly). I have looked through the logs and also the Cycle Dump file and can find no reference to where X-Plane is looking. There are several references to a 'mesa' library but that is apparently already in Ubuntu. With a scenery heavy install approaching 50Gb (as I had on Windows) I find it crazy that X-Plane will not ship with its own required libraries of a few Mb if it is insistent of using older versions.

  14. After more than a year, the free (donationware) HD Mesh Scenery v3 replaces the previous v2 scenery package! Covered Regions (see coverage on the download map below): Europe (Canaries included) North America (USA, Alaska, Canada) Japan Hawaii NEW: Australia The HD Mesh Scenery v3 is a complete replacement for the default Global Scenery in X-Plane 10 for all covered regions (it includes mesh, landclass, forests, road/railroad networks, all water features and autogen data)! The v3 is an update of the previous v2 version (thus it includes all the improvements which were present there) and has notable improvements in the following areas: Australia as a new region has been added (with completely replaced, higher resolution landclass data)! Europe has received a complete overhaul - higher resolution, higher quality - of its forest data (part of the landclass information) Canada has received a massive improvement of its water features (replaced the partially - regionally - incomplete OSM water data with government data --> CanVec) Improved forest representation (better, more detailed reproduction of the raw forest landclass information) resulting in much more natural look of forests/forest variations in all regions Refreshed Oepnstreetmap (OSM) for all regions (except the before mentioned Canadian water data) to reference date 10th October 2014. This alone can improve many parts in the scenery. Used latest (September 2014) apt data for airport mesh smoothing / deforesting. Further increased the mesh resolution (by about 20-30%) Many other smaller / larger fixes listed here: Just like before, this scenery needs at least X-Plane 10.25 (or any later version) to work properly! With all the improvements and new a region, the overall file volume grew to a new record setting 99 GBytes (scattered over 98 distinct ZIP files, each covering a 10x10 degree area). Luckily, this year a few more parties (whom I would like to thank!) joined in to help in the distribution process (with servers and bandwidth). They are: (with direct download AND very important: BitTorrent seeding) (will have files online in a few days) All informations, possible updates, installation instructions, and download links (with a detailed dynamic map) can be found here: large selection of screenshots can be found here: Normal: Comparison (default, v2, v3) : I recommend all users (especially those who are new to the HD Mesh Scenery v3): first start with one or two small regions. Download them, install them, test if it works and then - slowly, step-by-step - get more regions! Use BitTorrent (via if possible, to avoid traffic congestion at the download sites! PLEASE take the time to read the short but important instructions! They help you (and then me) to avoid the most common mistakes! Have a lot of fun! Andras Fabian PS: I would like to ask all users, who are fluent in other languages than English or German (and have time), to please spread this news in other forums / new sites

  16. Today I was flying the EADT 737-800 from Gdańsk to Vienna.
  17. I have just installed my new ASUS Strixx GTX 970 and have been testing it with X-plane 10 (latest beta). I have tested both in 4K and 1080p on my new Sony 4K TV. Firstly, I can say the 4K experience with X-plane 10 is mind blowing. However, I am witnessing some strange behaviour. When in 4K I can get 22-25 fps at Aerosoft Lugano airport with clear weather and settings turned up almost to the highest everywhere and at extreme resolution. I am running with HDR on. Once away from the airport, I get from 30 – 6o fps which is pretty surprising in a positive way using 4K with a single 970 even with addons like the Jardesign A320 and caranado aircraft!! My processor is an i7 @3.8ghz and 6gb RAM. The strange part is when I try in 1080p. I only gain a couple of frames! If I get such high frames in 4K, why would my frames be almost the same in 1080p? This does matter because if I add heavy weather to the equation, my fps are not as healthy so 4K becomes less smooth depending on the scenario (though I’m hoping a purchase of Skymaxx pro might help with that). Has anyone any idea why my frames are almost the same in 4K as 1080p? Whilst I’m over the moon about being able to play in 4K, I would like the option of playing at higher fps in 1080p in bad weather. Cheers Steve

  19. I have launched my MD-80 project here: http://forums.x-plan...&showfile=19518 --PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS FILE HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED IN ABOUT A YEAR! IT IS NOT THE MOST CURRENT VERSION, I HAVE ADDED MANY IMPROVEMENTS AND AM WAITING TO RELEASE A MORE UP TO DATE VERSION-- 5/30/14 Currently it is a developmental stage. It has parts of a virtual cockpit so far and a simple 2D cockpit. The fuselage is completely modeled in Blender. I will continue to use the 0.X version numbers until the following minimum requirements are met: -Complete 3D Cockpit Enclosure -Realistic 2D Panel -More Realistic Flight Dynamics -At Least 2 Real World Liveries (Currently I supply a rough Delta livery and a Basic Livery I use for Modeling) What my goals are for the project as a whole are (regardless of version number, just where I hope to take the program before I'm through): -Fully Immersive 3D Cockpit -Photo Real 2D Panel -Photo Real Liveries (I have something of the sort currently with my Delta Livery. If synthetic proves to work better for me as far as quality, then replace "photo real" with "synthetic" ) -Extremely Realistic Flight Dynamics -Complete Interior Build These are just a few things I had in mind when I started this project a while back. Any of these things can show up at any time. I do have a list of priorities, but that doesn't mean that the Photo Real 2D panel won't come in the next 0.X update (no promises, just an example) or that it has to come before extremely realistic flight dynamics. I'll be sure to inform everyone the best I can of all the new toys that come with each release. I am currently a one man team, so you will have to bare with me and understand that flaws and glitches will arise. My goal is to get a new version done here and get it to you ASAP. That's why I released a 0.X version. I want you guys to help shape my project along the way and help me test it out! Just PLEASE do NOT edit my files at your computer! I have already put some serious time into it (even if it doesn't seem that way) and I couldn't bare to see it stolen from me If you are interested in coming on the team as a beta tester, please just let me know. Contact me here or send me a message on Skype: pilotmanchase. I need people to do extensive flight tests and such on the aircraft before it is released. PLUS it comes with a cool banner like mine! B) -IMPORTANT- While I do encourage people to make repaints for my aircraft... DON'T! The current set up for how the plane will read the textures is not the one that will be used in the future. And even then, it definitely is not optimized for ease... at all. Leave the headaches to me... seriously. You will find yourself in a world of hurt if you try to repaint it. Just sayin' -Release Thoughts- Here is a copy of a post I made in the X-Plane forums recently: Hello, everyone once again! I just wanted to hop in here to share some very exciting news! While preparing the MD-80 for it's next release, I entered a world of developmental opportunities. I decided to walk right on through these newly opened doors and am pleased to announce that I have made a significant leap forward in the developmental process. I will try to post pictures later. I was looking forward to pushing out a v0.3 release very soon, but I am now considering the option of waiting until it is v1.0 ready. I say this because it doesn't seem right to me that I release a product that is lost so deeply in the middle of not having advanced features and having so many advanced features that incompleteness makes it hardly usable. I will continue to consider a v0.3 release, but I am thinking that I will wait until the plane is finished. Here is a list of some of the big improvements: --FLIGHT DYNAMICS!!! (This was one of the most exciting things. I made the plane fly a lot more realistically, though I feel there is still a long way to go before I get the perfect MD-80 feel) --Animated 3D Cockpit (This is one of those things that is incomplete right now. It's coming along nicely though. I'll post pictures) --Stall Warning Horn Fixed (No more stall warning after rotation) --Center of Gravity Fix (I guess this is a flight dynamic, but this fix deserves it's own category. It isn't perfect, but it's better than the nose-smashing start that you guys are experiencing LOL ) --Custom Textured Cockpit (This is one of the cooler features. I am currently making good looking synthetic cockpit textures. I'll replicate the process for repaints in the future) --Optimized Cockpit (Not sure if it helps frames that much, but I cleaned up a lot of extra vertices) Still on tap: --I need to redo the bender model. I don't like it at all. Better than Plane Maker models, but still awful. (Not really terrible, but I need to fix the number of windows at least) --Cabin (I will die if I have to look straight through this plane much longer) --Plus much, much more that I can't think of at 4:00 in the morning.
