Hello, I've started flying helicopters in X-plane around Lincolnshire, UK and am trying to use RAF Cranwell, Waddington and Coningsby tacan's to navigate my way around. Whenever I enter a frequency into nav 1, and make it an active frequency I pick it up as DME, just not VOR. I personally thought tacan is basically a military version of a VOR, but it seems to me it's more like a DME. My question is am I write or wrong in my theory? Or is X-plane 10 portraying tacans in the wrong way (which I doubt) And also how do the military use tacan to navigate, and how can I start doing this? Thank you very much Conner.

Amazing, the difference Photoscenery makes.

Still fooling a bit with photoscenery. Here's just one from the North Georgia mountains at Brasstown Bald. The image data looks to be from the middle of autumn, so I turned off the autogen trees so their green color wouldn't clash with the reds in the texture.

Hi all! In the recent weeks I have seen a lot of criticism towards X-Plane 10 coming mostly from people who use FSX and find that XP10 lacks some features they have grown used to. Therefore I think it would be good to compile a list of features that you think should be implemented in the future. If you have something you would like to see in XP10, then please write here. Rules for posting: Be polite and constructive. Keep in mind that X-Plane is not FSX and it's not supposed to be a copy of it. So if you lack a feature in XP that FSX has, be creative and think how you could extend that feature to make it even better than in FSX. Be reasonable. Think before posting if the feature you think of should be really part of the X-Plane core or if it would be better something for a third-party addon. Keep it short and simple. And of course: long-time X-Planers are also invited to write their suggestions here.

I had a wonderful flight around Southern California tonight, and felt like sharing. Recently XPX has been my sim of choice because of it's stability, and improved performance with the latest Nvidia drivers. I also "downgraded" to a 27 inch monitor from 30 inch, this improved my graphical performance so much that the decrease in view size was totally worth it. I recently took the time to make LOD 17 cm(30 cm/pixel) photoscenery of all of California and Western Nevada so as to make a nice playground to fly around in. I love the changing topography provided from the area. This was a vfr flight, to practice pilotage and old fashioned radio navigation, we are going from Big Bear Lake In the San Jacinto Mtns down to Redlands in San Bernado county, East over Banning between the San Bernadino and San Jacinto mountain Ranges. Then we overfly Palm Springs, then head south over the eastern part of the San Jac. Mtns to end up at the very west end of the Colorado Desert at Borrego Valley. We will fly Mountains, plains, cities, valleys, and finally desert. I also picked my start and end aiports because I found some nice free scenery for them. Let me apologize for the small pics, I goofed up when re-sizing them, but they get they do the job. Ready To Go at Big Bear, the whole area has an icy bluish color palette Climbing out amongst the San Bernadino peaks Heading west that is Big Bear lake in front of me, I am shooting for a southwest departure to catch a hole in the range Descending down through the valley, the color palette changes to greenish. Overflying Banning Between the San Bernadino and San Jac Mtns, on the way to Palm Springs Mesh and photoscenery combine well, this is Alpilotx Mesh Almost to KPSP, the color palette begins to change again to a bright yellow Dscending into Borrego, that street pattern is actually on the sectionals Tiedowns @ Borrego Thanks for looking...

Lugano to Sion in my Carenado Seneca (landed on an airstrip just short of Sion due a bizzare engine failure). I made it in one piece with the engine cutting out as I landed. I think I descended too fast. Anyhow, the flight was stunning using the freeware photoscenery I have for Switzerland and Italy. Cheers, Steve
