I'm a long time supporter of RXP products. I also own the WAAS units. The also dissapointed with the price of the cross link for an additional $100. If it had the ability to run across a FSWIDE or Simconnect computer, I would consider the price worth paying. I thought that was the direction FS was going. But there's the old now freeware 530/430 that does the same thing except their 16 bit instead of 32 bit.Bill M
I will step in again and say that I think this product is not marketed so much towards typical fs simmers, but professional flight schools/setups, rw training. I believe that may be the direction some past fs producers may choose to follow as the professional market is solid, more lucrative, and frankly the consumer appreciative. One of my local flight schools has 8 sims that run on Elite and use a combo of cirrus flight yokes and custom hardware. (I have almost as good a hardware setup at home, and I prefer fsx). The sims rent for $40/hr. with an additional instructor fee who must man the instructor station, and are logable. $80-90 and hour approx. Why on earth would I want to spend that, when I can get just about as much done on my home system?. Because that fee is hugely less than doing it in the real aircraft, and it is logable. This same fbo has 4 aircraft all with Garmin 430's-the cheapest rents for $105/hr. wet. Now does a typical pilot want to go out at $105/hr. with all the distractions of flying and hope to learn how to fly with a G430-or would he be happy to pay a one time permanent fee of $100 or so and learn all that at home on his home sim where he/she can pause, consult directions etc. To this pilot-a product like this is a bargain and will be a huge money saver.I realize for simmers the higher price may be disappointing, but imho simmers have had it awfully good for a long while. When the economy was strong, and simmers in huge numbers, it probably made economic sense for developers to put a serious product like this out at a frankly low price, and let the huge numbers of simmers/sales make up the numbers. I view the F1 Mustang in the same light-imho it is priced ridiculously low for what it offers. With the demise of MS and a possible murky future, it is only logical that some developers will move to where the real and lasting market is as the simming market numbers will probably go lower and lower without a new sim to continue to generate interest. They will not be able to give products that take a huge amount of time to develop at bargain prices anymore, and will turn to the real world training where what is probably a fair price in the first place can be asked for, and sustained. If you need to train for the real thing, it is still a huge bargain at the asking price. If you only sim-then naturally this may be too big a price for you to pay. But it is of course your choice to decide.

Than what is the Professional version for? lol :(Packed with a feature set that was only available in our professional version, and designed from the higher training specifications required and demanded by our professionaly licensed customers, GNS WAAS Unlimited adds the following prosummer grade features, specially priced for our simTainment

Well it is my belief as I stated in my post that some "serious" duplications of reality which us "simmers" have been taking for granted as a right, are now moving towards and joining thier "professional" versions for the reasons I stated in my post.

That may be the case, but it is also alienating quite a few of the product's supporters. It's a shame really as I have always been a fan of RXP.Were the 530 and 430 in need of an upgrade? The crossfill capabilies are a nice addition, but that was included in past versions. TCAS is not exactly new to FS either. I am having a tough time justifying the $100 price tag. It sort of seems like $100 to make a new product fucntion like the old product, but also add in TCAS. lol

The point is this isn't a professional product and it probably isn't licensed for use in a commercial environment, in which case your argument is most likely not relevant, i.e. it is overpriced for a simTainment™ product. I'm fairly certain RXP wont allow a simTainment™ products to be used for real world training (at cost charged for training) purposes, although I may be wrong.

Cheers, Andy.

I think what you are saying is the point. If you don't need the upgrade don't get it! If you can't justify the $100 price tag don't get it! Why would this alienate anyone? I want a vacation house on the ocean, but there aren't any at a price I can't afford right now. I'd like the price to be lower, but it isn't. Doesn't make me mad at the owner for asking what they think it is worth?...Implications of "price gauging" and "greed" really rub me the wrong way. Price gauging is when you take a commodity like gasoline which people need to survive, and raise it based on no market reason but to take more money from the consumer because you can. This is not a product anyone needs to survive, and has been priced by the manufacterer at a price he deems necessarry to justify his efforts. I do know one thing-in the market that this is probably going for there will be no complaining-perhaps this also figures into the equation.Andy-I don't think your argument has any bearing to a manufacterer deciding to price a product at a price that makes sense for them.

Again for the price it would be nice if it ran over a network computer. Then it would be worth it for me.Bill M

For a price to be considered "gouging", said product does not have to be a "need", especially not "a need to survive". The price only has to be considered unfair and the company offering that price has to be one of the only offering said product.Reality XP is offering a product at a somewhat over the top price tag and they are pretty much the only company offering that type of product.I am not saying they are price gouging, all I mean is that it sort of seems like it. Either way, call it whatever you want, the price is ridiculous.

They are free to charge what they like of course, just as we are free to decide not to pay it, that's capitalism for you. If I really wanted it, I'd pay that for it. I wouldn't be thrilled at the price, but I'd hand over the cash if it was the only way to get something I desired. Luckily for me, I think I can live without it.Choices aside and onto personal opinion: I do think they perhaps ought to consider their pricing given the economic climate, and perhaps changing their name to 'Get a Grip on Reality' :( Al

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I take it that Bert is speaking of real flight schools etc. when he uses the word "professional". I just visited a new one at my local airport that is filled with simulators, all running the rxp units, with custom designed hardware.
Yep just great stuff :-) imagine all the hours involved to program it I think a lot of user aren't aware of how many hours it really takes in general...

Um... it uses the Garmin trainer in the background. Garmin did all the primary programming, RXP just transfers the interface into a gauge. That's not that big a deal, to be honest. Let's not go off the deep end on all this. ;)

Define "unfair"... and "ridiculous".My wished for vacation house on the ocean is also ridiculously priced for my frame of reference-but it must not be for others.. :( In my opinion the price for most quality add ins for fs has been ridiculously low for the value/time to produce, and possibly unfair to the developers.
