November 29, 200916 yr Here we go again. 'US -vs- 'THEM'. I got a 'poll'' of my own:(1). In 'real' planes, is there a 2D panel?=YES.(2). In 'real' planes, is there a VC panel?=NO(3). In FS, who uses the 2D panel?=Nobody's(4). In FS, who uses the VC panel?='The Elite': (Top Rigs, Ultimate everything, 99% Payware, Push to Shove Preferences, Nose UP!).(5). In FS, what happens if you even LOOK at a 2D panel?=No can no longer be considered to be in 'The Elite' click (and may even be banned).(6). In FS, who uses BOTH 2D and VC panels?=Nobody's(7). In FS, who uses Top Down view to increase 'field of view'?=I do. (And maybe other 'Nobody's'?).Chuck BNapamuleCount me as a nobody! :(
November 29, 200916 yr I would vote, but there is no option for "Do we have to flail this horse again?" :( Best Regards,Robert Kerr 3D Modeler & Texture Artist
November 29, 200916 yr I would vote, but there is no option for "Do we have to flail this horse again?" :(Agreed :(How far can one community divide itself FSX v FS92D v VCIFR v VFRAh well !!Mark
November 29, 200916 yr I think the 2D panel era is over, with very fast CPU's and TrackIR why have them?Having said that, I still take the cap off and use the 2D during cruise to manage FMC and everything at a glance... So I can't talk really... Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
November 29, 200916 yr I am a real world private pilot and although i do use the VC sometimes, I do prefer the 2d panels for the most part. There are pros and cons to both of course, but in any event an interesting debate. November 29, 200916 yr Agreed :(How far can one community divide itself FSX v FS92D v VCIFR v VFRAh well !!MarkWe actually beat dead horses all the time in real world pilot forums too. ie Twins vs Singles, Anti Ice equipment, Lean of Peak vs Rich of Peak (LOP/ROP) mixture settings, autopilot usage, tower airports vs non tower airports. How many pilots does it take to change a light bulb? Only one but the rest of pilots will go on ad nauseum about how they could have done it better/faster/safer/with less fuel... its just amazing how egos can get so much in the way of just getting along with one another. November 29, 200916 yr ... its just amazing how egos can get so much in the way of just getting along with one another. You Nailed It Right There! It all seems to come from the Commercial Developers and the Real World pilots.I'm not a pilot.I'm just a guy who enjoys Flight Simulator. That makes me a nobody in the Flight Sim world and unworthy of anyone's consideration. This thread has taught me one thing:Be very, very selective of where I spend my future Flight Sim dollars.

It'll all work out. We promise. :(

November 29, 200916 yr Bit of both here:* 2D is my preference for airliners - Maddog, MD-11, 767, ERJs* VC with TrackIR for the Cub, Bell 206 and the L-39Looking at my own preferences again, VC works well for me in aircraft where the instruments are all within a relatively narrow field of view in front of me, and where I spend more time looking at the environment than at the instruments. On the other hand, an aircraft like the JS-41 has a gorgeous VC, but I would much prefer if I could fly it from a 2D panel. However, just as with everything else, there are obvious tradeoffs involved with regards to development cost and time. The topic of this thread is perfectly legitimate for a flightsim discussion forum - if you think it is repetitive/boring/irrelevant, feel free not to read it (let alone post) on the topic. November 29, 200916 yr You don't give an option for 2D only.I don't care one bit if there are 3D cockpits or not.Respectfully:RTH
November 29, 200916 yr Option probably not added because I don't think any developer would release a new FSX-only product without a VC (and expect to make money off it) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 29, 200916 yr Author You're right Ryan,I also love VCs and don't wanna buy an addon without. But the question is if we could and want completely go without any 2D panels?I find the 50/50 vote till now very interesting....So this thread is NOT about VC against 2D!And against some posts above I haven't seen such a poll the last years... November 29, 200916 yr This is how my flights tend to go- Preflight 2D mostly- Dep taxi - VC mostly- Takeoff 2D mostly- Climb 2D mostly, occasionally VC- Cruise 2D mostly, but periodically rotate between 2D, VC and ext view- Descent 2D mostly, ocassionally VC- Approach/Landing Visual appr VC mostly, Instr approach 2D mostly- arrival taxi - VC mostly.IOW I want both, I always want both, I don't want to live without either. And I see no reason why I should have to.Regards.Ernie.
