April 16, 201016 yr I have a curious question, what is the difference between FEX and REX? Do they do more or less the same thing? That's Flight Environment Extreme and Real Environment Extreme, is that right?Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
April 16, 201016 yr Moderator Yeah they do about the same thing and I own both. However, REX does a lot more. REX not only has textures for the sky, water, water effects, and clouds like FEX, but it also has replacement textures for lightning, new lightning effects, airport runway and taxiway textures, new markings for the actual runway and taxiway lines, textures for where the a/c park, new taxiway signs, and more. Plus REX includes a weather engine similar to ASA/ASE.Basically if your going to buy one get REX because it does and has a lot more to offer. The only reason I have both is because FEX came out first. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

(I know Flight1 took over FEX, but that's not the same.)
April 16, 201016 yr I have/use FEX and allthough I really like and enjoy it, I honestly wish I waited for REX to be available for FSX because of the lighting and weather engine.I may go ahead and buy it when I have a little extra $$ which seems like never now a days!! lol

Yes, it's not the SAME developer ( altho I do NOT know that Chris isn't doing any work for Flight 1) but even if he isn't, they ARE DEVELOPING THE FEX PRODUCT.How many times do you have to read the same thing before you stop finding a way to knock the FEX people. Both are excellent products. As far as clouds, sky and water go - it's an individual preference. You prefer REX, I prefer FEX - both of us are right but I don't have to knock REX to strengthen my point.Ease up - your prejudice is showing not your opinion. At least IMHO!:) RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
April 16, 201016 yr Me have both and me like REX, way more!! :( For all reasons stated above. Ralph Peebles

Let me be clear: I have absolutely nothing against the FEX people: I have used FEX for a few years and only bought REX this year, so I am very thankfull to Chris and his partners!!! (I even had Chris on the phone way back then and he was very helpfull and all!) I certainly didn't mean to bash the FEX team or FEX, but all I wanted to make clear (and I think I did that by now... :( ) is that there is more to expect from the REX people than the FEX people... I really doubt if they are developping the FEX product... Chris has definitely given up on it all (as Flight1 itself said). Again, I am not AGAINST FEX, but I just wanted to be make it clear REX offers more, is cheaper and has a future: all those things weren't mentioned and should be taken into consideration when someone wants to choose between FEX and REX.Personally I like the FEX clouds more than the REX clouds and right now I still use the FEX waters, but that's not the point: the point is which of the two should one buy today, and when you look at it objectively, REX obviously is the better choice (bang for the buck etc.). Imho. :( Sorry for repeating myself: I won't say it again until someone opens another topic about this and no one posts how things are right now. :( Again, I have NOTHING against FEX or the people who (maybe) are working on it!!! Sorry if I have that impression.
April 17, 201016 yr I have both FEX and REX and IMHO REX is much better. Additionally don't think FEX is in development any longer. Their promised weather never materialised before they went belly up so I would be careful about buying FEX since its basically a dead product.REX on the other hand is under active development. Just check out the REX website and forums. You will see its a quality product! So in answer to your question, IMHO you should forget FEX and just get REX! Matthew S
April 17, 201016 yr In my opinion, te best combination for textures and real world weather is FEX with the Active Sky series. I also bought REX, but I like the FEX textures better. As far as weather generation is concerned ASE does a much better job than REX. The only part of REX I use now are lighting textures. April 17, 201016 yr I have no info about REX, but I use FEX and I think it's great. :( ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.

Sorry if I have that impression.Ok, I apologize for jumping on your case. B) I agree that right now, REX is the best bang for the buck and they are great people. I just took exception to your inference that FEX was a dead product. From what I understand, Flight1 plans to continue development of the FEX product beyond just changing the GUI. So it's still a viable option for someone to consider, IMHO.I spent a large part of my life in sales, and I always found it better to sell on the benefits of the product rather than the competitions negatives. To restate, if one had the funds, I'd say buy both and make your own comparisons. If $$ are an issue - REX would be the way to go, for now.Happy flying!Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
April 19, 201016 yr I only have FEX, I prefer the textures over what I've seen in REX screenshots. REX is a more powerful program though...I have yet to find a cloud set and sky set in REX2 that can compare to the realism in FEX sets. REX2 offers too many clouds/sky sets that just don't look realistic to me--too much color depth, overexaggerated cloud edges, sky colors I've never seen before, anywhere! etc. I keep trying, then keep restoring! I do very much use the weather generator (like it way more than ASX), taxiway/runway textures are nice. I basically bought it for the weather generator. And from several other posts here, I'm thinking this is a consensus. Maybe REX developers will become aware of this and work on better texture sets. I'd love to just have one product that handles it all.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync.
