August 11, 201015 yr Both sims are dead end, but one is a generation younger than the other. The #1 reason why it's prohibitive to migrate has become no longer a factor for more and more people, who then do just that. Why is there a financial reason not to develop for a platform? Because there are no longer enough potential buyers to make the work as profitable as they care to do it. I personally will stay with FS9 and I have many good reasons but I don't get why some people can't (or refuse to) see the fact that the absolute majority of simmers have or will use FSX exclusively. Carenado, and many other developers, have left the building ONLY to follow us simmers. JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
August 11, 201015 yr Will someone please enlighten me as to the 'financial' considerations that go into making (or not making) an addon for a particular platform? I must not be getting it...I was always under the impression that these aircraft and sceneries were created by a developer from scratch? So, it isn't like they are 'putting money into' a given project....just 'time'. Time, and effort. So, what it boils down to, is that the developer no longer feels that the FS9 community is worth his or her 'time' or 'effort' to produce a product. I guess 'time' really IS money...I don't know the costs of developing an aircraft but I know that scenery is a huge financial risk. Licensing hi-res aerial imagery is extremely expensive especially if you're looking for 15-7cm. Licensing the southwest peninsula of England reportedly costs over a million dollars according to one post I saw recently. And that's just some unedited pictures. For aircraft I suspect the costs arise in purchasing software such as 3dsmax ($3,495 to purchase $1,745 to upgrade from the previous version) then obtaining licenses to use gauges, aircraft systems, logos, and anything else that is copyrighted on the plane. Then they must purchase checklists, operation manuals, and other documents to know the way the aircraft behaves in and out. Finally comes the miscellaneous costs such as renting the plane (if possible), travelling to the aircraft, and having the computer hardware capable of designing such an aircraft. From this time seems to be the least of their costs (time is valued at about $7.25 an hour according to the current minimum wage in the United States).I would love to see the Caravan and Bonanza in FS9 but it seems like after 7 great years most of us have packed up and moved on including the developersMy 2 cents.
August 11, 201015 yr it seems like after 7 great years most of us have packed up and moved on including the developersMy 2 cents. You've packed up and moved to FSX with an 'Intel Core 2 Duo E7500'? :( You'd get a better bang for you buck with a tricked out FS9 setup (oh, I see you still use FS9). August 11, 201015 yr One scenery publisher that returned to dual products was Aerosoft. While released apart, they started making FS9 vesions available after the release of FSX onesYes and not. I used to be an active member of the Aerosoft community for a long time. I must say I (as a very generous FS9 addons customer) never liked their marketing attitude towards changing the whole simworld into an FSX one. There were so many discussions at their forums where poeple (including Mathijs K. himself) were proving that making FS9 addons makes NO MORE sense. And then.. bang, something like you say. We see more FS9 airports (fortunately). However that counts for scenery only or even large airports scenery. Holiday and VFR sceneries as well as all aircraft are going the FSX way only now. Fortunately I am a heavy-metal XL-airports flyer mostly, waiting for their EDDM.Carenado, and many other developers, have left the building ONLY to follow us simmers them simmers :wink:As for Carenado...well... like someone said earlier: I have some of their planes and will enjoy them in FS9.FSX is quite nice for VFR flying, so maybe one day I'll get something (if they are still around), not at present though.Good luck, Carenado!

It's the best of both and my E7500 is chugging along much better than I expected in FSX (of course that doesn't mean I'm looking ahead to Intel price drops).A lot of FS9 simmers could benefit from making FSX their VFR sim since it looks like the quality of FSX GA is going to go up in the next year or so. I hope this doesn't turn into an FS9/FSX competition or Carenado bashing. I am very happy with both sims they work so well together and Carenado will still remain one of the highest quality aircraft developers out there.

It's the developers who make the heavies that have gone FSX only that hurt
August 12, 201015 yr The fact that no one develops anything anymore ... The developers put down FS9 all the time.feelThere continues to release FS9 and FSX. e-jets v2 released 11 aug. August 12, 201015 yr feelThere continues to release FS9 and FSX. e-jets v2 released 11 aug. '10. the package is for FS9 and FSX.I know, but most developers have 'left the building' if you will. FeelThere continue to have my support regaurding FS9 products, as do all developers who continue to produce for FS9 in general. Danny
August 12, 201015 yr It saddens me to read that.As it's already been mentioned there's a huge number of us still using FS2004 and in these times it's strange to turn your back on that market. One thing though, I'm really pleased the C185 was released, been wanting that for ages, but sad that that's the last of the 2004 line.Pete.
August 12, 201015 yr it's bound to happen one day i guess. FS9 is 7 years old after all. I'm just glad it happened at a time when we already have plenty of awesome addons for FS9. I'm 100% satisfied with my install and if no more add-ons are released from today forward, i'll be fine. Besides, there are too many other good games out there to be spending money on :)ironically, the last addon i bought was from Carenado. -feng
August 12, 201015 yr Author FS9 is 7 years old after all.7 years old and still gets better every day. :( All you FS9 developers out there you will get my support....with my wallet and otherwise. :( Bon chance Carenado and thankyou for my FS9 GA (especially the Mooney). :( My FS Videos
August 12, 201015 yr It´s really disappointing news on the one hand, on the other hand however (as I already wrote in the Carenado forum)... imho the latest releases all had some really annoying bugs and glitches. I kinda doubt that I´d have bought the next planes from them anyway due to the lack of support and care into details...
August 12, 201015 yr Author ......... due to the lack of support and care into details...I have to agree with you. Carenado do not have to speed up releases but slow down and take more care over their releases. IMHOThere do not appear to have much in the way of competition so they can take their time. And as for FSX giving them more options....they should have been looking at implementing 3D XML gauges eons ago ....but hey bump mapping and sparkly water is more important right? :( My FS Videos
