FSX strange lines showing

Featured Replies

Hi,I am using FSX Deleuxe and W7 Professional Edition 32 bit was doing a flight and had these things come up during online flying with vatsim. I didn't know how to insert them as an image so have had to put them as attachments.ThanksJason

Jason - These artifacts are called Autogen Spikes and are the result of an overloaded/overheated GPU(video card). Reduce Autogen to none or sparse and, if no spikes, then try normal and see what happens.Bruce

Yep, what they said...Can you post your system specs so we have a better idea of the hardware you're running?

Yep take care. Videocard overheat is the most likely. Sort it quickly or you will need to buy a new card (assuming you dont fry your mobo too).If you are using an Nvidia card, you can turn up your fan speed in Rivatuner.Remove the side of the case to help keep things cool til you get it fixed.IAN

Yep, GPU overheat. I had the same thing on my M17X laptop while using the onboard 9400M in hybrid mode with the GTX 260M card. I had noticed that there was a lot of heat exiting the back of the laptop, so I disabled the 9400M and run on the 260M only. Since then everything is cool and no spikes.Steve

The easiest way to get rid of vertical bars is to install FSXLimiter. Set FSX frames to UNLIMITED and FSXLimiter locked at 29. No more spikes!Have funDaveIntel Core I7 975 Quadcore OC @ 3.75 Ghz (Air)Asus P6T DLX V2 X58 1366, BD Combo Plextor B310SA6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3 1866C7GTHIS ATI 4890 1GB, Samsung 24", Saitek X-52 ProLogitech Z680 5.1 Speakers, G15 Keyboard, G5 MouseThermaltake Element S Case, Corsair 850HX PSUC: Intel 80GB SSD w/Windows 7 Home 64D: WD 300GB Velocity Raptor w/FSX+Accel+GEX, F4AFE: WD 1TB Caviar Black w/Data SH4

I get thses spike as well when I am getting too many FPS. If I load a flight in a remote area with the default ultralight I will get those spikes until I lock my FPS to around 30 or so. I have never used the external FPS limiter though.

Hi Guys,Here is my system specs for my pc. I thank everyone for there response and suggestions with me being computer crap lol what is the easiest thing to do so that will stop damage to my pc? Or could this problem do serious damage to the computer?Windows 7 Professional 32 bitIntel Core 2 Duo CPU E7500 2.93khz4gb Ram (3.25GB Useable)Nividia Geforce 1GB 250GTSSomeone mentioned my Video card would that be the graphics card by Nividia and you can turn up your fan speed using Rivatuner?? I have read all the responses and have never heard of all these and am very puzzled by them all they are installing FSXLimiter? Again thanks to all who offer support and adviceRegardsJason

This is not going to damage your computer and as the first poster pointed out, it indicates your computer is reaching its limit with FSX. The first thing to do is reduce your slider settings and tax your system less. If you are using the BP=0 tweak, remove the tweak or use the RejectThreshold tweak. Also, as previously stated if you are trying to run your FPS on unlimited, lock the frames to a manageble value for your system. I highly doubt this has anything to do with your video card over heating (if it is you'll have problems with alot more than FSX). I can make this problem manifest itself on any currently available hardware just by pushing FSX too hard.Regards,Bob

JasonThe other alternative is to run a 64-bit OS and these spikes should be a thing of the past. Unfortunately what is seen here is most likely with a 32-bit OS.RegardsPeterH

Peter,The fact of the matter is a 64bit OS will not completely cure autogen spikes. If you push a system too hard they WILL still appear regardless of the OS. It is that simple.

Bob,You mentioned about me using a BP=0 tweak??? What is this ?? and remove the tweak or use RejectThreshold tweak again I'm very confused as to what this is???? I take it this problem will cause FSX not to work ? If I check my sliders once home will I need to turn them down ? I'm still very puzzled by all the suggestions from people of vARIOUS tweaks and what is best to do.ThanksJason

Jason,If you do not know what those tweaks are, then they are of no concern to you. You would have had to manually modify your fsx.cfg file to apply them. Your installation of FSX just needs to be tuned to your system nothing more. If you have not already done so, please read NickN's guide "SETTING UP FSX and HOW TO TUNE IT" and pay close attention to the tuning section. The guide can be found here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041&title=setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-itRegards,Bob

I doubt very much that the problem is heat.Jason you need to follow Nick's tuning guide and *******' tweaks.By the way, do you have Windows 7 dvd for 64 bit?If so you would be better off using the 64 bit version as long as your computer's hardware is compatible.
