My short answer is Yes, it is a bit mechanical sounding compared with FSX ATC.  I resisted for some time because of that point after listening.  Once, I broke down and bought it, within a couple of weeks, I no longer noticed how it sounded.  You do have the option to chose the voices you want to hear and their speed.  I do have the Meatwater changes now and that has improved a great product even more.  If you care about decent ATC then buy Radar Contact.  Soon you won't even notice the voices.  That's my opinion.

Thanks for you insight . i have delayed buying RC because of the voice "mechanical" sound.  Good to hear someone had the same concern and is now satisfied with the product.

Default ATC also sounds mechanical when you hear it for the first time. I also thought the same, but you don't notice that after 5 minutes... and you can choose among a lot of different voices.. what you heard is just one of them.. some are more "natural" than others. I don't think any RC user is bothered with that at all.

I had this worries about a year ago... :( Than I bought it and I don't regret it. I think they said all previous buyers have some sort of discount when new version comes... I asked the same question.There is no release date as far as I know.

I bought it a few years ago and they were "working" on V5 then. I wouldn't hold my breath.It's a good product - my only complaint is that the sound output goes to the speakers. I prefer voice to headphones and other sounds to speakers but RC doesn't allow that. For that reason only, I uninstalled it.If that gets fixed in V5, I'd upgrade.Vic

I don't know if there is a difference in headsets, but I have a USB headset and I have no problem setting voice to the headset and everything else to the speakers.

Hi everyone, I just found out today, after extensive research, about a product that is supposed to improve the ATC environment in FSX: Radar Contact. I am trying to better understand ATC phraseology and secrets, fist to make my flights more real, second to learn what to say and how to respond, once I become a member of VATSIM. Has anyone here used this product? It seems like they should be coming out with RC v. 5, but I am not so sure. If any member uses or knows about the product, please drop a line or two, thank you allEnrico

I don't know if there is a difference in headsets, but I have a USB headset and I have no problem setting voice to the headset and everything else to the speakers.

I have a USB headset also and it works juust fine but not with RC? Everything else goes where I want it but RC only comes through the speakers. I asked about it a while back and was told in their forum that it was hard coded and they had no plans to change it.Until they do, it's a nogo for me, sadly.Vic

I've been using RC for many years. Currently have it installed on an old 1.6ghz laptop and connect to main PC / FSX via Wide FS. Result isFSX sounds from PC audio system, and RC voices from laptop. Of course the RC (laptop) voices can be easily adjusted independently of allelse for volume and tone. This is a very happy setup (for me). Also agree with many others regarding how the somewhat "mechanical" voicesbecome a non issue after a short period. I doubt that many have experimented with this due to the time involved; but RC offers the capabilityof recording your very own custom voice set(s). Just get your 7 year old to stand behind the "mike" with a script and tell him / her when to"sound off" ~:)Ken Boardman

I was an RC v2 or maybe it was v3 user for quite some time, but tired of the mechanical concatenated method of creating speech. I understand this has improved, but from what I am hearing here, it is an issue perhaps for some. I think if RC ever successfully discovers a way to create speech that is as natural sounding as default FSX's is, they will have a true powerhouse must-have add for FSX. I'd be on it in an instant. I know default FSX ATC is very weak in terms of content and realism, but the speech part does IMO create some disincentive for signing on. I've been on the fence with it for a while now. I do also understand most overlook the speech style in a short time.Noel

Vic:Simply set your default sound device in Windows to the headset. Then in FSX sound, set voice to default and others to the speakers. The Windows change is about two clicks in the control panel. To make it even easier, I put a shortcut on my desktop. Quick change to the headset when I start FSX and a quick change back when I'm done. It adds about ten seconds to your FSX preflight.

Radar Contact is great, for IFR flying only. It does not work with VFR flights.I use Radar Contact for IFR and default ATC for VFR with Live ATC in the background.
