Question about Radar Contact

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I just found out today, after extensive research, about a product that is supposed to improve the ATC environment in FSX: Radar Contact. I am trying to better understand ATC phraseology and secrets, fist to make my flights more real, second to learn what to say and how to respond, once I become a member of VATSIM. Has anyone here used this product? It seems like they should be coming out with RC v. 5, but I am not so sure. If any member uses or knows about the product, please drop a line or two, thank you allEnrico

Radar Contact v4.3 is a great add-on that adds much greater realism in terms of ATC within FSX....I'm a big fan.Their support forum is here at AVSIM : Radar Contact forumGoogle for reviews...I'm sure you'll find further guidance and opinions about the product, which are by and large very favorable. Version 5 is in the works, but don't ask about a release date...it'lll arrive when it's ready.

Hi rudiJG1, thanks for your reply, at one point I thought there were no users of RC on this forum. I'll check the appropriate forum as you suggested. take careEnrico

RC is a great add-on to enhance the ATC realism in FS. I can't fly without it.

I would definately recommend it - so much better than the default ATC. G

Why are the RC ATC voices more computer sounding (more choppy) vs. the FSX ATC voices?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.....Microsoft had a little more resources, albeit their ATC is lousy in comparison to RC otherwise :( They really are not 'that bad' at all actually. Personally, I think folks make way too much of a 'big deal' about this. They do not bother me at all.

Search the AVSIM file library for MeatWater VocPack for Radar Contact 4 VERSION 2...it's a great set of replacement voice files that improves the ATC voices.

Personally, I do not care for them. I fly both GA and utilize 'center' quite often, and the 'speed up' of the voices are too fast for real life normal ATC exchange. With some of those mods, it is like you are speaking to a very busy Approach and/or Tower at O'Hare all the time.

Can anyone provide a link to video using Meatwater's mod and the most recent version of RC. The videos I am finding don't seem that appealing and many people do not list their RC version or mention whether it has been modified.

Thanks. I am not interested in finding the files at this point. I am interested in finding an example of Radar Contact with Meatwater's modification. The Radar Contact site doesn't seem to have anything. I found one video in a thread here at AVSIM but it has been removed from Youtube.Again, as I stated in my first post, the videos I have found on Youtube do not say which version they are using or whether they include the modifications.

Try here:http://forums1.avsim.net/topic/244687-anyone-tried-the-new-voice-sets-by-nick-schreger/page__st__50I followed the instructions in this thread, and installed the mod 1st time, with no trouble at all.ETA: sorry, if you want to see an example of it working, I don't know. But it's great. No, not as natural as FSX's own ATC, but given that FSX ATC is on drugs, I'm happy to swap the voice quality for simple quality.

My short answer is Yes, it is a bit mechanical sounding compared with FSX ATC. I resisted for some time because of that point after listening. Once, I broke down and bought it, within a couple of weeks, I no longer noticed how it sounded. You do have the option to chose the voices you want to hear and their speed. I do have the Meatwater changes now and that has improved a great product even more. If you care about decent ATC then buy Radar Contact. Soon you won't even notice the voices. That's my opinion.
