Externalities and the NGX

Will be the fan blades also smoothly simulated as you did on your first 737NG ? I mean the different phases of start of the engines ? I loved this feature on your old bird....
Pascal-It is modeled even better in the NGX... And wait until you see the data on the displays during start/shut down... Looks exactly like the real airplane... (Which is no simple feat..)

This specific aspect of a simulation has always struck me as a good 'litmus test' of whether an add-on is bona fide "top-shelf" material, or not. Look around, there aren't many add-ons that really have this feature nailed down, PMDG produces most of them I might add. :(

Terrain radar has been done by other planes before, like the Leo Maddog. I'm wondering if perhaps the plane is landing using GNSS?
Wim-"Terrain Radar" isn't something that exists in the airline world. The EGPWS terrain display that is shown on the flight deck of modern aircraft is done using GPS position data and a regionalized terrain database stored onboard the aircraft. In the case of the NGX, we have a fully implemented Honeywell EGPWS system including all modes, callouts, overrides, visual annunciations, displays and a global terrain database.I can't speak to the accuracy of other developer's implementations of this technology so I wouldn't presume to claim we are the first- but this will definitely be among the best- and we would hope "The Best" but this is for you all to say- not us.(I can say that there are some developers out there who claim to be "first" that...uhm... well... weren't... :( That badge belongs to the good folks at Leondardo as best I can recall.)

Stunning. Just...stunning!! I can't wait for the NGX!! It will be nice to fly it rather than the aging POSKY model that I fly with now. You guys have NAILED that model!! Can't wait to see more. PMDG, you rock the flight sim world!

We do have selectable two options for brakes though - steel vs. carbon and they have different deceleration rates, different heating models etc.
I'm going to correct Ryan here (since he was poking fun of my Flaps 25, low speed approach to show of the HUGS)...We are offering you the option of carbon or steel brakes, which will change the way heat is retained/distributed/lost by the brake system. The brake effectiveness will be identical, since the decel rates are controlled to produce a specific inertial rate of deceleration EXCEPT THAT if you overheat the steel brakes you will lose braking effectiveness.Carbon brakes are not as sensitive to heat and maintain their effectiveness...
Even the AoA Sensor is moving. On the apron pics it's hanging down and in flight it moves along with the air streaming around it. Wow!
Nameless-Good eye for detail! Yes- this is modeled precisely as you describe.(Please sign your posts in the PMDG forum, we require it!

I Have really no words to describe what I just saw, but I do say this, When I hopefully become an Airline Pilot, and If I'm a great 737 pilot, I'm thanking PMDG!!!

is any livery ready? we would love to see airliner samples.
Cenk-There are about a dozen so far, but we won't begin showing them until later...
That shot looks like the diecast 1/200 models I collect by Geminijets (which happen to be in Reno as well)
Rick-Geminijets is in Reno? Seriously?I have a few dozen here in the office... I didn't know they were "local."
Man, I can't tell you how many times I bit my lip wanting to chime in on all the naysayers complaining about this and that, knowing that with a little patience the next update would be phenomenal. And in usual PMDG style, you guys didn't disappoint.
Tony-Thanks. We would much rather show something exciting than just show something for the sake of posting....

When we change external options in the FMC will it save our preferences for the next time we fly?
Alex-Yes... Until you change them they will remain in place. We thought that would make it more convenient. We are still implementing an "airline equipment" option that will allow you to select the equipment options by airline- but this may or may not make it into the v1.0... It will make it in a future free update if we don't complete it in the v1.0 release.

Need help on the liveries? I'm a good painter and I do Magnificent Alaska Airlines Jets! But other than that I have to say I fine job well done! Will there be a Config. Manager to Select different setups? (i.e. Sattelite bulge, eyebrow Windows, WLs)-Chris

Comments on the sound package for the 737NGX?
Noel,We are planning to use the default C-172 sound package. :( Don't worry about sounds... We have an audiophile on staff and he can be VERY pushy about sound related issues. I won't out him out of courtesy. <cough>RYAN<cough>

Ridiculously great looking plane. I really hope all the greatness that went into the NGX will also be used on the 747 V2. PMDG, any idea when you will start working on the 747? And, does anyone have any advice on how to get a better experience out of the VC? I'm seriously having problems adapting to it even with TrackIr, as I find it's often hard to push buttons, maintain a good overview of all the systems as well as flying the plane. With TrackIr I feel like I have to sit still like a robot and not move my head in order to avoid losing situational awareness and control. Without it I'm stuck in a horrible camera view that feels very unnatural. It's like the Captain is leaning toward the cockpit window. I want to enjoy the NGX in 3D, so I would greatly appreciate some input from you pro VC people.

Another question about the fan blades. This is certainly overkill and a bit pointless to implement in a sim but i'm just curious if they will rotate freely in the wind.

Back in the flap subject a few pages ago it made think of something... Would flap disagree been simulated? Never saw it anywhere!
Fernando-In the real world the way you will find yourself in a flap assym situation is if your maintenance staff has failed to follow Boeing's guidelines regarding the lubing and replacement of life limited parts in the flap actuators. (Yes- there's a reason I know this...) This will cause quite a bit of VERY noticeable airframe vibration long before you get the assym condition... but if it happens- it will be because part of the flap departed the airplane. (You would be lucky to survive it hitting the horizontal...)So... No this will not be simulated. We explored it, but FSX really doesn't lend itself well to lift/drag asymmetry without really jacking things up. Aside from that the airplane has built in protections to mitigate the risks of a mechanical flap assym.

Support Equipment:NGX_External_Preview_003.jpgIn the image above, you will notice that the airplane is connected to ground power, ground air conditioning and a ground air-start unit. Each of these units is selectable via an options menu system that is contained right within the FMS, much like it was on the PMDG MD-11.For user options and ground support in the NGX, we have put the functionality into the FMS in order to keep you from having to pull open external menus, thus accentuating the immersion of the simulation experience.
Looking at these shots, I must say I am beyond speechless. You guys have answered all my questions just from the details I see in the pictures, and I appreciate the added details you have given in your responses in this thread as well. I posted this picture in my reply because I wanted to note the hanging test thingamajig on the tail while the plane is at rest, which of course swings freely in the air. It is not just eye candy, it has a function and behaves in accordance with real world physics (like the angle of attack vane on the nose, another nice touch!) As much as I spend most of my time fixated on VC cockpit in flight, and value systems and flight model fidelity above all else, I also love to use FSrecorder to see replays of my flights and take in the art of the visuals. It's like stopping to smell the flowers, to soak in the beauty that is all around you. I applaud your work, which applies as much importance to the science of systems simulation (and those under the hood intracacies that few developers take the effort to model) as it does to the art of the visual model/animations. All too often, the aircraft with the best visuals in the VC or exterior model department suffer when it comes to the featureset of the actual plane being simulated, but not so for PMDG, you really are the "No Compromises" addon developer.I hope PMDG realises unimaginable prosperity as a result of this project, I dare say that if flight simulation was a more popular pastime in the world, this company would have Goldman Sachs knocking on its doors to offer an IPO like Facebook!!!

I believe they do actually - and the animations are desynchronized from each other too, meaning that when you shut them down you're not going to see both fans end up stopping in the same exact position with the same orientation of the anti-bird spiral on the spinner.
