Externalities and the NGX

Featured Replies

I doubt this is possible given that you have only so many polygons you can use (did I get that right?), but will the NGX have visible passengers like the JS4100?
What does this really do for realism vs performance? Who really cares about seeing some heads in the windows after all :) Judging by the latest NGX pictures it seems the windows are textures and not 'holes' - hopefully

Matthew,Unfortunately it isn't possible given the limitations of the simulator and the size of the airplane with respect to the number of polygons required per passenger... We had to use those resources elsewhere....

PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM

You can find us at:  http://forum.pmdg.com

I Have really no words to describe what I just saw, but I do say this, When I hopefully become an Airline Pilot, and If I'm a great 737 pilot, I'm thanking PMDG!!!
+1. Hey! We'll be 'plane mates', because I wanna pilot a 737 too! As I said before, if you can fly the NGX, a real 737 will be no problem.
DarrylTwo words: Cheaper.Okay that was one word... Saved you 50%!!!
It seems now that all the 'pressure for updates' is over, Randazzo's good humor is arising. Since yesterday he has been joking all the way. I say that because the impression I had of him is of a serious man, that's not exactly the joker guy, if you know what I mean. It's very good to see that I was wrong and that the moods at PMDG are so good. I won't say again how much I loved the new update and specially the NGX itself <ops, just said it> because I and everybody else have already said that many many times, but keep up the great work, guys.

You know what I'd like to see, but on a different thread entirely please: A before/after picture thread showing the FS2004 bird compared to the NGX in these shots. We had this scenario in a previous post by Capt Randazzo of the VC, can someone here or PMDG fire up the ole FS2004 and make a set of similar screenies? Even the FS2004 model looked quite nice in its day and age, but these shots with the high resolution paint, rivets, etc just blow FS2004 out of the water! I can imagine many of the FS2004 lifers are now questioning their allegiance to that platform after seeing what's up PMDG's sleeves :(

I don't care either way - I was simply curious...

First off, I know this sounds nitpicky but can we please try to stop calling the EGPWS "terrain radar"? That isn't what it is - the display loads from an onboard database, similar to how a car GPS unit loads it's maps for instance. The terrain display does update with a "sweep" similar to how a weather radar looks, but that's just the way the display unit works, it's not actually scanning the ground with a beam or anything like that. The altitude you stop seeing things at depends on the mode that the EGPWS is set to (which is a hardware option set during installation on the real life unit) - the mode that everyone's likely going to want to use is called "peaks mode" because it lets you see the prominent terrain features in the area even while up at cruise. Without peaks mode you'll stop seeing terrain as soon as you're clear of any potential conflicts with it (defined as 2000 feet above in the normal mode). The actual rules used in the normal mode (non peaks) are:(This is in FCOM2 Ch. 15)-dotted green: terrain from 2,000 feet below to 500 feet (250 feet with gear down) below the airplane’s current altitude-dotted amber: terrain 500 feet (250 feet with gear down) below to 2,000 feet above the airplane’s current altitude-dotted red: terrain more than 2,000 feet above airplane’s current altitude-dotted magenta: no terrain data available-solid amber: look–ahead terrain caution active-solid red: look–ahead terrain warning active. The density of the dots/blocks also changes to indicate the actual contour of the terrain. The peaks mode option modifies these rules once you're 2000 feet above the highest point in the area so that you instead see "bands" of terrain - it's a fairly complicated algorithm that I can't really write out here, there's a bunch of different rules for what it displays, but it works as an advisory tool and allows you to see the terrain while at cruise essentially. This can be quite useful for instance in the event of a decompression and emergency descent over mountainous terrain...
Well good work guys the, EPGWS looks pretty cool, that is something I will use:) :(

Speaking of liveries, what if anything, has changed with regard to their installation and managment? Will there now be a seperate livery manager application/feature? I.e., no longer putting liveries in "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs & Features"?:(

@PMDG team,What are the latest statistics on the performance [VC fps], now that the majority of the "heavy" stuff is in as you say :)therefore, how does it compare to the MD11?Regards,

Noel,We are planning to use the default C-172 sound package. Just Kidding.gif Don't worry about sounds... We have an audiophile on staff and he can be VERY pushy about sound related issues. I won't out him out of courtesy. <cough>RYAN<cough>
ahhh ahh, I remember the days when ATP first came out with the 737 and before that I used the Learjet to pretend it was an airliner and I think they all had the same cessna Just%20Kidding.gif sound....we have come along way...

The wing views are AWESOME! Stunning work!!I have stopped using wingviews due to the extenal sound issue in FSX in wingviews just stay in the VC these days, but have had some success and modifying certain sound sets...is there anything that can be done to help the issue so we can have some sort of interior sound with wingviews? I think someone mentioned ths already, but wanted to mention it too:)

I am so looking forward to this beauty joining my PMDG 747X and PMDG MD-11 in my hangar.

It looks so great! It is very nice! My question is will the whole NG family be done? (ie. -600, -700, -800, -900) . :( This plane is sexy! Its so hot, that it can clean, gut, cook/fry a bird in less then 2 seconds! :(
Those variants are certain. The -900ER is likely to be included too because according to those people who own the manual set, there are performance charts and other data in the manuals that contain information of the -900ER. There's also the POSSIBILITY of a new model for the BBJ, like an expansion pack, that includes BBJ (737-700), BBJ2 (737-800) and BBJ3 (737-900ER). But again, it is NOT certain.

Looking good, it seems that PMDG works hard!!!ill hope it supports the weather future in the navigation display!!!And hope that virtual sounds are improved, like engine sound, wind around airplane, gear extending etc???Wing effects improved, like in turbulence weather conditions?????Beautifull bird!!!And, I want to fly KLM, transavia, Turkish airlines, canada air and american air!!!!!!!!!Waiting 3 years for release!!!!!!!!!!!!!I give a party when it releases!!!!:(:(:(:(B):(
