Speaking of this, I have been following this since it happened, but there seems to be no word of when retailers will once again have P67 mobo's. I will be buying mine from newegg.com, and they have discontinued selling any 1155 CPUs and all P67 mobos.Does anyone know when sales will resume? Thanks

I read the recall would cost intel around 1billion dollars in costs and lost revenue. New units are to be sent out end of feb, with full shipment capabilities and stock to be available in april sometime. So the states will probably be the first to get the new lot, and everything else will trickle down by april to all the other smaller markets. Just my thoughts however. The p67 is what i have in my new system, but apparently it only effects some of the sata ports? The ones my pc geek uses on the p67 are not effected so it doesnt really effect me. I dont know much about pc's so any enlightenment on this would be good. :)

IF (big if) i upgrade my system, im not gonna buy the i7 2600K, but the Hexacore i7 Enthusiast (or Extreme if the bang-for-buck factor is reasonable), i.e LGA 2011. Seems pretty stupid for me spending 500+ USD on upgrading my Enthusiast range CPU to a newer Performance range CPU. But i've heard rumours of the LGA 2011 being for servers so i guess its too early to decide anything. Anyway i know way too little right now to decide for myself let alone give advice to anyone else so take my post with a grain of salt :)
The i7 980X is a huge waste of money if it's for an FS system. The 2600K will do 95% of what it does for $700 less. If 5% is worth $700 to you then go ahead, but I can't imagine it would be...

Cool! I hope to be flying a Qantas NGX for Qantas virtual one day, and the important thing is, even if a system can handle the NGX, FTX, etc. individually, I need a system that can handle them running altogether at once (flying the NGX, at an FTX airport with UT2 traffic, in an FTX scenery, with a REX environment), so if those specs can handle all these addons at once, and give me at least 20 FPS (I won't have everything maxed out, I'll always leave autogen on normal) then I'm golden :)

I have a website that builds completely customized, built-to-order computers for people, so that is why I'm so concerned. This was going to be good for business, but now people will probably hold off untill the chipsets are back out. Even then some will still probably hold off due to doubts in the quality of the chips. Hrmm...Let's hope that intel works this out well. Nail%20Biting.gif They always seem to.Anyway, don't mean to HJ this thread by talking about CPUs and chipsets! Back to the amazing NGX. She's the most important thing around here!Speaking of the 737:Last week I was on New Mexico One (SWA) and it was overall a very interesting experience from a technical point of view. I saw several things on that trip that I haven't seen on any other trip. (And I fly a lot!) I might start a thread and post some pics and vids of various things, but first let me just post a short little segment here. The biggest thing I noticed on New Mexico One is that the PFD/ND were in the standard format. They were not set up like the rest of the SWA PFD/ND's that I've seen. They had the 'tape' style speed and altitude information and the 'map' style ND.Is this something new that SWA is doing, or is it specific to this plane? HmmmmAnothing thing that I've never seen is: When we were decending into BWI, it was very foggy so I couldn't see the ground, but I could tell that we were going FAST. We had the speed brakes extended through the entire approach, and the F/O deployed the gear before any flaps were extended. This was really quite rough when you deploy the gear first. I am assuming that he was using the gear to slow down to within the flap extension speeds. When we were on final, if I looked out of my window and forward, I could actually see the runway. So we were on a fast, crosswind approach! Pretty cool! Also on approach into BWI, we kept having moments of zero or near zero G's. (according to my iPhone) Everyone would kind of gasp and it would feel like you are falling. What causes this? Also, on rough approaches will the G's needle in the NGX move? Or does the weather engine not allow for this? Finally, I rarely fly in the north, but this trip took me to Baltimore. When I boarded in BWI to fly home, I looked out the window to see that the wing and engine was covered with massive amounts of ice. I have been in icy planes before that have had to be deiced, but not like this! When we pushed back from the gate, the flaps were extended fully, and the spoilers were deployed. This broke off huge sheets of ice that slid down the wing and into the jet blast. The ice was then shot by the jet blast into the ground where it kind of exploded into little chips. Then we taxied to the deicing stand. During our taxi, there was lots of light blue/white smoke coming out of the engines. I am assuming this was because of the cold. (It was 7*F) After about 7 or so minutes the smoke subsided gradually. Deicing took all of thirty minutes, during which ice was literally flying of of the plane. Pretty cool! Then during take off, ice was still flying off the wings up to the point of rotation! Maybe this is common, but I used to fly weekly out of DFW where icing like this just doesn't happen. I have since moved to Birmingham, AL because of work. So I really never see anything like this. Not even in all of my trips to the UK (lived here briefly) and the Netherlands. This was really impressive and amazing! Is icing like this common and I just havn't really seen it?¡Gracias para tus respuestas/comentarios, y te quidas! At the gate in BHMDecending into BWI

Yes, SWA uses PFD/ND format now. It was changed (I think March-April of 2010), to accomodate for RNP Procedures. They also use VNAV and have A/T, which weren't operational before.

I was talking about the Sandy bridge Enthusiast CPU (Socket 2011), not gulftown. The cheapest ones are (rumoured) to cost about 400USD, 6 cores (price range of the LGA 2011 will be from 400-1000, or so i've heard, the highend at 8 cores/16 threads) No way in hell would i spend 600USD more, getting something that is marginally better ;). They might all be overkill, only time will tell. Anyway thats in Q3-4 of 2011 and Ms Flight might have been released by that time and shown to be more GPU dependant than CPU, who knows..Probably by the time i feel my i7 system is ready to be upgraded the Ivy bridge (22nm) will have come out.

As others said SWA is converting the fleet (an NG-like retrofit is being done to the analog 300s too even) so that they can fly RNP.

That's just turbulence - if you have a downward gust/shear then you'll feel that negative G for a second. Not sure what you mean by "the G's needle" though - the 737 doesn't have a G meter - only military aircraft have those basically.I can't really answer the deicing questions - I don't see that very often in Phoenix haha.
I think it was Ryan who asked me to post more information on the HUD menus in the CDU. Here are some pics that I posted before and a new one of the menus. I didn't get one of the test page but what that does is display a pattern on the HUD so the pilot can get the seat adjusted to he can see everything that's being displayed. If you don't get your view just right you won't be able to see everything that is being projected. There is very little tolerance on where you have to position your eyes which some guys don't like because it puts them out of their comfortable sitting position for flying. I guess most other airlines program the HUD from the pedestal but at American we do it from the CDU. Just one of the many different options Boeing offers in the 737 I guess. Oh yeah and I believe I read that the older version of the HUD we have will not be modeled so I won't bother getting any pictures of the menus on that one which are a little different.
Tom, check your forum PMs when you get a chance...

Argh! Yes, I know. I knew that was wrong when I posted it. There is a gauge that I'm referring to, but I can't think of what it is right now. I want to say that it is visible on the PFD. Anyway, I can't think of what I mean right now. I feel so silly. Maybe I'll think of it later. Let's try to forget that I said that. :PRyan, thanks for taking the time to reply. I had no idea that SWA was doing RNP, a/t, etc now! That's pretty sweet! It'll be more fun to simulate SWA flights realistically. Mmm, RNP...fun. What do you mean upgrading their -300s? Are they updating the avionics only, or are they putting in those little square CRTs for the PFD/ND, one ontop of the other?

As I understand it they are getting a retrofit somewhat similar to what's being done to some 757s and 767s right now - it's modern NG or 777 style LCD EFIS displays, not the same small CRT screens from the glass 300s. This way, the 300s get RNP capabilities and the pilots can still fly both types like they do now. (which was the whole reason for their old EFIS/MAP style displays in the first place)
