Externalities and the NGX

I absolutely cannot wait for the beta testers to be able to post videos and screenshots. It'll be like endless updates all the way 'till release!

Well if pmdg needs someone with a 2600k processor to test the performance of the ngx then I nominate myself. :)

In regards to the deicing, any plane that takes off with ice on the wings is essentially isn't flying legally. The FAA has a FAR in place that states every aircraft must depart free of contaminates. (Ice, Snow, Frost, etc..) The exception is some aircraft are allowed to depart with less than an 1/8" of frost on the fuselage. Supprisingly we deice alot here at KJAX in jax, fl. You would be supprised how the airlines deice there own aircraft vs. 3rd party providers (i.e. signature, sheltair, etc..) Every airline for the most part has a deice program. And they say do this this and that to meet the clean aircraft concept. But when you your watching the southwest, american, usair, and cont. guys deicing their airplanes, you wonder why there are even out there waisting $10.00 a gallon in glycol. To give you an idea of what I mean, Propylene Glycol (used for type 1 deicing only) must be heated to a minimum of 160 deg F at the nozzle of the deicer. Most deice trucks heat the glycol up to 180 deg F to meet this requirment. Any hotter and steam becomes and issue. If you spray the deice fluid out of the nozzle, you loose -/+ 1 Deg in temp for every 1 foot from the nozzle. Assuming your fluid is heated to 180 deg f. you cannot spray any more than 10 feet from the aircraft. Common practice is to keep 5 feet away. Back to my original point about the airlines, i'v seen these guys spray deice fluid from a distance of 30 - 60 feet away from the aircraft on a regular basis. Which if you do the math, the fluid is not hot enough to melt any contamination on the aircraft while still meeting the requirements of hold over times for the flight crew. Anyways, enough babeling about deice, i do it enough at work... ThanksJR

EGPWS has been discussed throughout this whole thread and was shown in screenshots already... yes.
i just cant believe that the simulation is this accurate...i really have fallen in love with the manual set, and i cant wait to see how the plane reacts if i do something according to the book.

This thread is great to follow. It just keeps building my anticipation and love. :( I'm working on getting more speed from my stock clocked AMD x6 to get ready for when the NGX comes out. I'm kinda being tempted to get a trackIR set for the launch as well, LOL.gif , but need to save my money for the NGX :( I can't wait to see the lighting preview. It's nice to see developers putting attention into the exterior lighting as well. I love the 3D light redux lights, but I can't map them to flexible wings :(

The NG can actually take off with frost on the wings. There are certain criteria which must be met but we are allowed to do it.Jack Colwill

That is due to our cold-soaked fuel frost exemption, not all NG's carriers have this exemption, and as a ex westjet deicer, ice can be not ticker then 1/8th inch within the painted exemption box. For purposes of simulation the westjet NG's wing texture should be different from other carriers due to this painted box. I cant seem to find a picture of it for the life me at the moment

1/8th inch is a pretty thin layer. What method do you use to measure something that small?

Tony

Hey folks, since that flight test drogue has been mentioned (and modelled as well), and I just came across this picture at a.net I thought I'd share this. Was among the top rated or top viewn shots, whatever, and shows the 87 with exactly that device on its tail. Don't quite know what it does exactly but thought it was quite interesting to see in reality nevertheless. Link needs to be copied because direct linking is not allowed here: www.airliners.net/photo/Boeing/Boeing-787-8-Dreamliner/1862119/Lsig.gifEditBrowsing the web for something else I came along those as well. They are a great reference of how the real HUGS looks like, although they were 'only' taken inside a sim, but oh well the sys is the same, so go ahead and enjoy. Hope the devs will adjust their font a little bit to resemble the real thing even more before release. Then again we've only seen WIP shots so far, so I'll be patient. Oh and take note of the CDU options in #1 and #3, looks interesting. Pic #1, pic #2, pic #3, pic #4. Happy landing. Big%20Grin.gifEdit 2Alright, don't want to start a new post but I keep finding interesting stuff. At least that's what I think haha. :( Earlier in this thread the update to the 57/67 flight decks has been mentioned. I just came across these interesting shots showing them off in quite good quality. Wow, I wonder why the EGPWS elevation figures are so fuzzy. Think it's the same on the 37, but I have no idea why. :( One, two, three, four, five. Enjoy! :biggrin:Edit 3To be on the safe side, for © reasons Lee was kind enough to mention below. :(

Can't wait for the PMDG 787NGX. Ops, 737. :LMAO:Was not as funny here as it was in my mind :( .
