New March screen shots.......!

I'm willing to bet any amount of money that this is NOT default scenery. I'm pretty sure that MS is adding Hawaii (at least the big island) as a "detailed area" which is undoubtedly why they have focused all of their recent screenshots around the same area. Is the rest of the world getting this level of detail? I'm inclined to highly doubt it.What I'd like to see are other detailed areas such as Seattle, NYC, Chicago, etc to see if they enjoy the same upgrades as Hawaii. And then I'd like to see a picture of Ottumwa Regional Airport (no detailed area in the middle of Iowa)...I will also take the bet that it looks NOTHING like the airport in the pic but this would be a REAL test of what the "default" areas look like.As it stands now MS keeps showing beautiful pics of a single area so it gives the confusing impression that the entire FS world has been covered with ORBX level detail which is getting everyone excited. What I fear is that this is another "God's Rays" situation that if the rest of the world does NOT look like the shots they are showing come release day it will be another fiasco like the FSX release. MS NEEDS to clarify these differences, show other screenshots of other areas, and help to level set expectations that are obviously being built up by releasing screenshots in this manner. My 2 cents is to take the screenshots with a grain of salt, and be pleasantly SURPRISED rather than to be bitterly disappointed. Unfortunately, when it comes to the MSFS franchise, history tends to repeat itself.
+ 1There is no way Flight can look like Hawaii all over the world.....what will be left for the dev., I mean who need addons scenery if Flight look like that all over the world.Like you said, show us a big city, and like I said earlier show us a big city without a road cutting golf course, buildings or football field in half....

edit: The autogen house size bug even affects Orbx scenery (just check out their screen shots to see how almost every house is double storey 'warehouse' sized). If Microsoft doesnt fix this bug then all scenery using autogen will continue to suffer from this bug. And, it creates such a false sense of scale and altitude perception.
isnt everything not bigger in the US ?Can anyone post a direct link to the shots? I cant see them with FF.

Apart from the Pic with the airport on it, its basically very good topography with better autogen and there is no reason why Flight can't have superior topography than FSX, Xplane manages it fairly well and that barely runs on 2 cores, so something optimised for 4 or 6 shouldn't have too much trouble - here's hoping that it will be optimised.Ironically you may find its the big cities that the add-ons may focus on, and that wouldn't be a bad thing really - i'd prefer much improved landclass's than big cities if it came to a choice.
Why don't you point us out to where I or somebody else said we did not enjoy what we have? That's the only thing we have until Xplane 10 or Flight arrive and until then FSX is still full of bugs......at the beginning all kind of speculation were flying left and right about a new engine and how amazing Flight will be based on the first pics and webisode but after more scrutening we can all see that Flight is based on the FSX engine, trust me I'm the first one to admit how sad I was when I realised that but the fact are the fact and I can't change them. Why have we not see any pics or webisode over a big city with scaled houses and trees without a road cutting a football field or several buildings in half?
OK, here you are:"Mathew is right, with oversized houses, oversized trees, sinking weels on the runway, blurries and some of the same gas station as FSX in others pics. you all still belive that this is a brand new engine from scratch with the same exact bugs in it as FSX...""Can everything we see in Flight be achieved by reparing what ever is wrong in FSX, fixing it real good and adding some new stuff to it?""and like I said earlier show us a big city without a road cutting golf course, buildings or football field in half...."

I'm just stating the fact, if you are 100% happy with FSX more power to you and I admire you.The only thing I'm saying here is that I don't understand why we are seeing the same bugs in Flight as we see in FSX....well I know why.

as some others have pointed out, if the airport scenery is going to only be for certain airports but looks like that out of the box, i would be happy with that. just like FSX, they made 20 something airports better then the rest, they sure could not do it to many more and still be on time and budget. But i am impressed with what i have seen so far.

I would agree with that, expect that I would imagine that the majority of the shots that they posted that are outside the city area probably represent what will be the default ground textures for that type of landclass. I'm sure as well that the airport shot in the latest one is part of their "detailed areas" and not all the aiports will look like that. However, for a "detailed airport" that is default, I think its looking better than any of their other "deailed areas" that they have done for FSX.Having said that, I will be happy when we start seeing some shots of some different areas for a change. Give us a shot of Phoenix, LA, Miami, Frankfurt, anything but more Hawaii so we can see how the rest of the world looks. I'd be interested to see some winter shots in the mountains to see how the snow textures look, some desert shots of Arizona for a glimps of their desert textures, etc.

+10 In remembrance of beautyfull rendered St. Maarten and desert like northern hemisphere in FSX.The screens shown are looking great, no doubt. The shadows, and did you notice the bump mapping of the wings fabric? :( However, i decided that if the flaws from FS2004 and FSX are still present in Flight (in particular the windshift bug), i will not buy Flight.

:( If there's even one bug, one oversized autogen house/tree, or even one blade of grass out of place, I surely will not buy Flight and will just stay on FSX for the rest of my life. Just kidding of course, every version has some sort of a flaws, but that hasn't kept me from buying them and enjoying the daylights out of each version I have ever owned.

Evening Mike! By the same logic if Microsoft had shown a default airport you would think all airports are rubbish... This is clearly an airport which has much more detailed bestowed on it than a 'default' airport. There were detailed areas in Hawaii in FSX but not to this scale... However many of the screenshots seen of Hawaii are of a default nature so I think it's unfair to say that some of the 'effect' and improvements Microsoft are making do not apply to other parts of the world too. You're right ofcourse to take the screenshots which a pinch of salt, not wanting to make things look worse but as this is a development shot. Microsoft could even pull some of the scenery on release. I remember some photographic shots released of Seattle harbour which when FSX came out didn't see the light of day, maybe because there initial release was 20 times overcapacity! A lot may change, but its clear to me and many others the high level of attention to detail Microsoft are putting into this product. If you understand the way FSX rendering works and many people on here do, its easy to see the gains each new screenshot brings. Maybe some have post processing, I couldn't careless. I've seen enough to know whats real and what isn't and what I have seen fills me with anticipation and excitment that Flight will be a milestone release in general avaition simulation that will take some beating in the years to come and I for one can't wait for it's release!Lets hope Seattle, NYC, Chicago, etc oh and London! are all supplied out the box...Cheers,Dave.

Flight Looks great so far! Would really like VC shadows and raindrops, and cloud shadows would be most welcome. It's nice to have a new MS flight sim to look forward to, after the doom and gloom of the franchise's supposed demise. Feel like a kid anticipating a future Xmas present!

Hehe I'm supprised you're still on FSX, by that strategy you should still be playing PAC Man on the Atari, a technically flawless game Big%20Grin.gif ! Sorry just couldn't resist! Cheers,Dave.

Hi Alain, I'm not sure I understand what you point is but thanks for the photographic scenery. It just shows the levels of accuracy Microsoft are putting into planning this, and for what is quite a small airport. Great stuff Microsoft!Cheers,Dave.
