Updates to other PMDG Products?

There's going to be a small J41 service pack that fixes a few things yes - this is not a major update. It's a new set of gauges that fix some rare CTD issues, and a new VC model that fixes some shimmering issues and issues with the rain/icing.
Hi!Tabs, includes the gauges update also the fmc ctd?- this is one of the reasons that i didn´t fly this bird too much....Thnx

I think and I hope that they start from scratch with the 747 and 8i. It has been out long enough that I would be willing to spend the full price to have a version 2 that will be up to snuff with the 737NGx. Also it would be nice to have the 8i with the minor realistic changes to the virtual cockpit instead of using the -400 cockpit.I wouldn't expect them to make it an free or discounted update. A new 747 at this level of realism, should be an all new product with all new manuals

a new VC model that fixes some shimmering issues? The MD11 also needs something like that

.. It's a new set of gauges that fix some rare CTD issues, ...
I have never had a CTD with the JS4100 and generally get good performance with it, but I notice a lot of times when flying it that my HD will go into what seems like a constant search mode. What I mean by search mode is that the HD light will come on and stay on for extended periods of time and when I switch views from VC to locked spot it seems to take a while for the textures to load when the HD light is on. Also it seems like when I switch view the sounds do weird things like completely cutting out then coming back on partially, but I have to hit the Q key twice to get them back. Unfortunately out of all the planes I own, the J41 is the only one that seems to have these issues. I am really hoping that the NGX doesn't have any of these issues, especially the one with the sounds when switching views.Sean Campbell

Klaus,Submit a support ticket and I'll send you the gauge to test - I'm actually very interested to see if it solves your problem. We think we got all the CTDs that are actually being caused in the code.

Sean,Your symptoms sound very much to me like swapping to the pagefile because the system is running out of physical memory. That stuff with the HD activity light is called "disk thrashing" and it looks exactly like what you're describing. You only have 2GB of physical RAM according to your system specs. Combined with the OS, FSX can exceed that very easily. 4GB is really the minimum I'd recommend for running FSX with a ton of addons like you have in your list there. Buy some new RAM and I bet the problem goes away. You're being limited by the Windows XP 2GB user address space limit too - I'd try to get Win 7 x64 if you can in addition to the RAM upgrade...The sound stuff is an FSX bug with complex sound sets that use the 3D cone technology (we're one of the only devs that fully implements it) - ACES knew about it but never fixed it. You just have to hit Q twice really quick when it happens to reset the sound engine - nothing we can do about it.

Thanks for the info Ryan. I had a feeling the "disk thrashing" you described might have something to do with the swapping. The funny thing is that when it happens it seems to only be when I fly the JS4100 and that's why I thought it might have something to do with the guages. I do notice it more when I fly the J41 in the ORBX PNW. As an example, I loaded up the ORBX KORS with the J41 the other day and even when the flight loaded completely, the "disk thrashing" started and didn't seem to end until I left the area. Just for kicks, I rebooted FSX and loaded the same airport with your 747 and again with the LDS767 and the disk thrashing didn't occure. Could be part of the reason I have a hard time flying in the PNW and having the ground textures keep up once I get going faster than 150kts due to my 2GB of RAM.On getting new RAM, I will do that when I do my next upgrade to Win 7 64bit and one of the new 2500K or 2600K CPUs. I figure that reinstalling FSX with all my addons would be such a pain in the butt that I might as well do a whole upgrade rather than just the OS and more RAM, then have to do it all again once I get a new CPU and mobo.Sean Campbell

The J41's probably got a higher texture and RAM overhead than the others, pushes it just far enough that it starts the thrashing... I've certainly not seen it with the J41 nor is it something I've really seen reported though.Upgrading the whole system to a 2500K, 8GB, and recent gen vid card would be the best thing to do for sure.

Also, Bryon York has previously mentioned that there is an update to FS2Crew for the JS41 that is waiting for SP2 so he can release an updated version with added functionality such as the FO being able to set the correct runway heading and initial alt during his taxi flow for you, fix a bug with the FO switching off the Prop De-Ice and perhaps some other minor items.Regards,Serge

Thnx Tabs,I haven´t got the verification email yet now to submit a ticket...Btw. in fact that i flew the J41 not so often in the last time, i tried to reproduce the ctd from memory- it happens again, if i start fsx and go in, choose the j41, turned the fms on, after entering the initialing coordinates, i choose the suggested fplan from this airport, then i selected a departure, then an arrival- if i choose now a Star- waypoint the ctd accurse...New:I tried it several times with manually entered Fplans and it worked- maybe....... this old saved Fplan i chosen before was the case..? Nevermind, i couldnt reproduce this "failure" after i deleted this one "old" Fplan but i will test it a few times more in diff. situations when i ´ve more time (this was an 20min. only tryout)Thnx again!

How 'bout a 787 next? They could build it hand-in-hand with the 777, as they share many technologies.

Nooooo :( shouldn´t do that!!! How should this be possible???? The 787 is still under development by Boeing, so PMDG has no chance to do a real simulation. Let them do the 777 (which will be another great addon i guess) and afterwards they could do the 787 but this will probably mean that the 787 is only available for MS Flight because Flight will release this year or the next .But i hope PMDG will never try to simulate an aircraft which isn´t delivered in reality.:(
