Which is the best FPS limiter?

Featured Replies

What is the advantage of frame limiter programs over the default one inside the sim?
My reason for using it has nothing to do with cores (didn't know about that, is it really true?) but avoiding spikes and fluctuations in fps and getting rid of the 'extra' limiting. When you use the FSX limiter EVERYTHING gets limited more than you want to. When things get rough and fs goes down, it goes down in all parts of the game. Hm, hard to explain in words... Let me give a (fictious but hopefully clear) example... 1. When I set the ingame FSX limiter to 25 (just an example) I get 15 near a very dense airport. 2. However, when I set the ingame FSX limiter to unlimited I get 22 near that same very dense airport! 3. Apparently setting the FSX limiter to unlimited gives FSX more room to breathe and in the low fps regions things perform a bit better! (Again, don't know about cores but FSX lower fps simply gets a bump up). 4. But... the fps also fluctuates more, you get spikes.. annoying... and you can also get slower loading textures and that kind of things. 5. Now when I use the external limiter and set it to 25 and the set the ingame FSX to unlimited, I still get 22 near that airport! 6. FSX thinks I am running unlimited, so it has more room to breathe and it gives you everything it can offer, but... now without the fluctuations and spikes etc. because I simply can't get over 25 anymore due to the external limiter! Got it? I hope so. This is why I use a limiter. ;)

I installed antilag last night and it does a FAR better job of maintaining a consistent rate with much smaller fluctuations that FPS Limiter. I've installed the hot fix after hearing a few say they got a few extra fps. If that doesn't work I'm resizing the vc textures!
at least thats what the numbers tell ya .. but, i bet you can program the read out to smooth the data so that .. to the user, it appears to be maintaining the fps more consistently

Dunno. It seems to vary to the system, etc.. At one time I compared the internal limiterto the common outboard limiter, and mine ran better with the internal FSX limiter. And for the past few months, I seemed to be doing better limiting it down. Reducedthe stutters when taxing, etc.. But a while back I upgraded to the Gold edition, and nowI'm not so sure being as I have all the service packs now.. I have been limiting it the sameas with the old version I ran, and thought all was swell..But.. with fine tuning for the NGX, I tried it with unlimited, and danged if it doesn't seemto do a good bit better unlimited.. And I don't seem to be stuttering on taxi turns..About all one can do is try all the various options and see what works best.I think the results can vary all over the map due to the system, the FSX install, patches used, etc..At this time, I getting the best NGX results with it unlimited. But that's just me..

I am a newb when it comes to running an external limiter. I would like to give this Antilag thing a try. Can some kind soul tell me what changes need to be made to fsx in order to use it? Basically how do I set it up? I run I'm windowed mode without the enb thing. As well in what order do you start it up? After fsx is running or before?

Just trying to keep this relevant so someone sees my request for assistance.

I agree that the anti-lag limiter does a better job of maintaining a constant frame rate, but the black screen issues are a killer for me.

Simply download it and then drop both the dll and ini file in the main FSX folder and make sure FSX built-in limiter is set to 'Unlimited'Then you can set your preferred FPS in the ini file. I'm not in front of my PC but I recall there were some instructions included in the download as well.Hope it helps!

On the subject of the Antilag limiter, there are conflicting opinions on where to set render ahead. Is it 2, 1 or 0?

I set mine to 0 yesterday after installing the limiter and I was very pleased with the performance and smoothness! Haven't tried the other values though but can't see how it could be any smoother honestly.

The antilag works wonders compared to the external java one. Unfortunately it's unusable for me in conjunction with ENB, as although for the most part they work perfectly together, when alt+tabbing I get a black screen. Alt+tab is essential for me at the moment as until I get my laptop setup via widefs, all my secondary programs have to be run on my main pc. The only thing I truly hate about FSX over FS9 is the way it deals with screens. Used to be so much easier having all my secondary stuff on monitor 2.

I noticed a terrible stutter every five seconds when set to "2". Not to mention the set render ahead option is designed for FPS games and mouse lag in those games (Useless in FSX). A value of "1" will inevitably hurt performance. Use "0"

Hi,I use the Antilag limiter with the ENB Series Mod. Works fine on my system. I also have got the problem with alt + enter. Then I get a blacksreen. Then I press on alt + control + entf and than on abboard. And then I see FSX again, and the problem is fixed for the remaining flight. Best regards John

Where can I download this to give it a try?
