Avsim Exclusive Screenshots For X-plane10

you can not see truck shadows from your aircraft in flight. The truck shadows would be good for a sims game.
Troll or no idea what the (?&%$ he is talking about.I did an approach in my B733 in the evening across a busy highway (A5 near EDDF) and there were PLENTY of shadows from those trucks and cars and I could see them clearly. So if you want to talk down XP10 please try something else and don´t insult our intelligence. Thank you.Jan

Took the words right out of my mouth. thumbs-up.jpg?w=283

Am I reading this right, XP-10 will get updates from time to time?

Yes, it will suport Linux. I am one of the scenery devs (the natural landscape - all the planet), and I do all my work (including testing in XP10) with Linux (have no Mac or Windows).
Sweet. I really enjoy FSX, but I'd love a comparable flight sim for Linux. I fiddle around with FlightGear every now and then, and while it's good for an open source community project, it's miles behind the commercially developed sims.

kids with their "troll' word... I see that you fly, so evidently just speak with the young words.. I still say that from 3500 agl .. you will not notice the shadows ..

For those not familiar with X-Plane, the paradigm of updates is MUCH different than that of FSX. Basically, x-plane is continually updated and the updates distributed through the x-plane updater application. It is not uncommon to see updates every few days after a new release. Thereafter, it could be every few weeks...or perhaps several months. Obviously as bugs are squashed and features are put in, the updates will slow down. But x-plane, at it's very core is a non-stop development effort and it's the continual updates and improvements that i believe appeal to a large number of users. Many would rather have the sim, live with what doesn't work until it gets updated rather than wait till everything is perfect. Besides, you absolutely can't beat the feedback that comes from the masses, there is only so much a small team can test.-TomK

Telling a man you don't know .....what he will and will not see ....unless you are omniscient....is pretty bold. Perhaps a better statement would have been, "I myself don't notice the shadows and I will guess that many others won't either".

The ONLY person in the entire simming community, so far, who disapproves of the shadows.LMAO.gif

I dont disapprove of them .. I have never said that.

Saying they "don't add real immersion" is disapproving. It's a double negative that is referring to the same topic. You can't say "they don't add real immersion but I DO approve of them" in the context of what we are discussing. It doesn't make sense.
First of all the images posted have low autogen & trees as Austin has stated. And UTX makes FSX even more ugly in my opinion and your comparing DEFAULT vs ADD-ONS.No Contest, XP10 Default vs FSX Default, XP10 wins. Also, Microsoft is a large company with millions to spend (and they still didn't get it right), while LM is 4 to 6 guys creating this sim.At least you could tip your hats for their efforts.Looking for perfection will just drive you crazy.
Agree, and check out the terrain detail in the distant mountains! No contest.

Having read the ATC/AI blog post, I can't help but think how similar it will be to my trusty old Flight Unlimited which came out how many years ago now?It would be nice to have an ATC you could talk to (even if it makes the rest of the family think I'm nuts). Surely technology has moved on a bit in the last fifteen years such that we don't have to have a menu system which we click and type and generally get distracted with.Sounds like an improvement on the current system, so welcome none the less.Any 'ow, my two bobs worth.Bruce H(Oz)

Ha, that earlier post comparing an incomplete xplane to Google Earth! So fair a comparison..FSX with no addons is still a cartoon compared to xplane 9.I tried Utimate Terrain X Europe for fsx, great night lighting, roads not bad either, but still looks too much like fettuccine. Oh dear, then when I tried GEX Europe on top of UTX, I got  chug-city and the textures did not impress that much more.I wasn't even impressed with the textures I saw at Orbx's PNW mountain regions. So comparing any sim to Screenies of GE is unfair. Xplane is a world simulator- it covers the entire globe. Just think of how big that job is. Xplane 9 takes over 60gigs to fully install. How huge would it be if you wanted GE quality textures?!Those who want the best textures will always use photo textures. I personally won't fly anywhere in xplane without them. Yes, if you know what you're doing, you can get free photo textures for any area, even Tasmania:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozB4EXCWG7gI hope the new autogen and global textures reduce the need for such things, but if not, I'll keep using the amazing tool. Plus there's some amazing payware textures for xplane, like Realscenery and UK photo scenery. Sheesh, one of the uk packs, of 4, is over 60gig! Worth it though. Each of my own private photo downloads takes 1 gig, for only 50sq km. Work that out for the globe.A fairer comparison might be to ED's A10-C. That has impressive lighting and shadow effects, excellent textures and clouds. I have it. But even now I rarely fly it, as bombing the same old scenery eventually tires one out. Xp10 scenery looks better than this. You'll be in for a treat me thinks!Re. Shadows- of course they're cool! Its ridiculous to debate anything that doesn't add to atmosphere and distractions for pilots. Plus, as a video maker, itll be incredible. Just look at what self shadowing does for a10:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X67PsxZyTWgSo this long post just says- compare apples with apples, and don't expect miracles from a global sim that only takes up 100 gig. But what it does with those 100g is pretty good from what I can see from these (early, pre beta) pics.Oh, and lap up EVERY innovation developed, it's all for your benefit.

HelloWhat I don't understand about Xplane and can be seen in the first Vid you posted, Why even when the sky is a bright blue as you would find on a summers day at noon does the scenery always look so dark and dreary, almost dusk like and the visibility does not match with what you would expect to see with such a bright sky.The ground should be well lit going by the sky and the sunlight on the clouds in this clip but the landscape is surreal.

Have you tried looking at the scenery when there are no clouds. Looking at the reflection in the lake, it seems as though there is a giant cloud reflecting in it that is right overhead. The clouds cast shadows on the ground. So if there is a huge cloud overhead, it will make the scenery look darker. Not sure of your settings, but this COULD, and probably is the reason.

MD, that's due to the free photoscenery download I used, crap Yahoo textures from what I recall. I most likely hadn't fixed the gamma lighting either. Oh, and the video doesn't do the in-sim vision justice. As ever, this is no indication of what XP10 may look like. I was just showing what phototextures can look like in xp9 (the ones in the vid are pretty stunning in sim, Tassie/Cradle mtn is a beautiful location).
