g3d.dll......help ..!

Seriously guys, I don't think that taunting the man is the right thing to do since I really doubt that his work is based on turning sliders to zero.I did not like the 'I could tell you, but I won't' tenor of his post, but I really believe that he has helped some folks. So why not act more open minded in the way to let him, or a customer of his, explain what the main concept of his tuning and tweaking is?We don't have to like it, but we should keep the place nice enough to allow some insights, right?I'm not talking about telling secrets, but I think that some more details may help his and 'our' reputation. smile.png

Since g3d.dll CTDs are a scenery problem, the only people that can fix it is the scenery developers. I don't need another guru advising me to lower the settings.

HelloYou will never get any details out of Michael or his customers. The customers went to him because they do not understand what he does and still don't after he has finished, hence why so many have to go back when they buy another machine, if they had been able to follow what he did then there would be no need.Michael himself will reveal nothing because basically he is doing little more than you could do yourself by reading N Needhams guides.Interesting exchange here that gets behind the veil a little.http://forum.simflight.com/topic/65183-dont-waste-your-money/

I see. Seems like the commercial stuff already raised some emotions. Reasonable of course when money is involved.I personally wouldn't pay for such things, but I've found it to be important that the guy gets a chance to explain some more details. So that was my main point. Thanks for the link.Sadly, the CTD investigations often end .. they don't end. I remember the Orbx Brisbane ones, KSEA with and without Vashon Island, LOWI (which lead to a fix that mostly helped) and many others. I read them with big interest though.I'm still looking for a guy offering a small tool that shows the 'close to the limit' value of your current installation and settings. Are the VAS related things a hint or even a vital value there?

I have my own opinions about g3d.dll errors and their causes and don't feel it would be of any benefit whatsoever to post them here or in the developers relevant forums when they don't listen in any case, blame the users, microsoft, GOD, overclocking, Nvidia drivers, other developers, the sim, "old bits of 32bit code" and other similar diversionary tactics, every damn thing but............................................................
What his service is is irrelevant in this topic. What bothers me is statements like this one above.. you can't just come here say something like that and disappear.

Agreed. I hope he gets back and fills it with life.I 'have my own opinions about' this or that too, but I don't sell those. Well, at least not here. laugh.png

Agreed. I hope he gets back and adds a bit of flesh.
HelloHe won't

Then I would wonder what the use of his statement was. Maybe the customers can help.Side note. I think he needs a commercial tag either way.

No, not that. But it is about balancing the system, and the ONLY way to do that in g3d.dll situation with some specific sceneries is if you lower the sliders. As I've said, we took a short session together way back, and he started doing some completely useless *rap on my computer. As someone said here, FS-GS is only good if you know nothing of computers or FSX configuration. But even then, FSX is going to run OK.And no, I firmly believe he can't get rid (combined with high VAS usage) of g3d.dll because that is a scenery developer fault.

I follow you on that believe, although my naive nature was very excited to read more from him in that regard. mellow.png

Oh btw. guys, I found one link maybe:A developer pointed me into right direction, and I have maybe found a connection. I have compared the EBBR and EDDF sceneries with some other sceneries, and found out that they have way more smaller textures in the texture folder than some other sceneries, even bigger or comparative airports, which have only half or less textures. The developer said it's better to optimize with larger textures but less in number to optimize the drawcall on the engine. It makes sense in this case. Both sceneries have around 900 textures, while for instance vienna or heathrow have around 300. It makes a lot of sense to me that if you make 900 textures and they all are loaded at the same moment, if you have a VAS usage that engine can't handle them. Moreover, AS LOWI, the well know around the community for crashes at OEV, has over 1100 textures! It is also probably a reason why ORBX is crashing so often, and also why some sceneries with more smaller textures crash when you load high VAS usage.

Don't get misguided by such posts. I've seen these things happen way too often in the past 8 years being a member here dry.png
Christhe errors within KSEA and Vashon airport are being adddressed by ORBX as we speak. Meanwhile the fix(for me anyway) was to install the OZx object library and the update from herehttp://aussiex.org/f...e-ozx-librariesSimbio (he has posted in this thread), I think he will create them if you ask? All he needs s the GUID number.bear in mind, if you get lots of missing objects in one area (8-10+), then that is most probably an install error. try deleting and reinstalling the addon scenery. Again, that worked for me with EGBB from UK2000.
Thanks but I have the Ozx libraries all installed anyhow. I only just reinstalled PNW the other night after stumbling onto this thread so reinstalling wont help. There's at least a dozen missing objects/textures south of Seattle, its the only area I've looked at since reading info here and enabling the alert config.Just to update, I did my usual test flight with scenery at extremely dense and autogen at normal using Flight1s BN2, just past OLM it crashes if LOD at 7.5, seems ok at 4.5 though I hate this LOD as tiles etc are blurry too close to the aircraft. I'll test using Autogen at dense and LOD 4.5 later. On the last G3D crash process explorer showing VAS at approx 3.5gb

This goes line in line with tests, no matter where.
That's what I said at the beginning Worried.gif
It appears to be starting to help me, my FSX currently has similar settings which used to crash it 100% of the time on a certain flight, now its sort of working though I havent had the time to do any lengthy tests around more of the PNW areaMissing files / VAS seems to be the main trigger, I think high settings may trigger it because the system is looking for more autogen objects and not perhaps because the system is hitting a critical VAS, I got a CTD using LOD7.5 but autogen was on normal and scenery ex. dense, changing to LOD 4.5 seems fine with other settings unchanged, I'm gonna try lower AG but high LOD to see if it crashes and watch the VAS then we will know if its system load or its inability to draw missing objects

See my note above, high scenery setting and high LOD make FSX call for more objects, if objects are missing or corrupted could this cause FSX to generate a g3d error rather than overload of the VAS? Can it be possible to get a g3d with high VAS but with both autogen or scenery complex at low or none? surely this will show which is triggering it?
