g3d.dll......help ..!

Featured Replies

I like the theory of a race/sync problem, but I have a scenario where I will get a g3d.dll appcrash during initial load. Started 6 times and it crashed 5, between 88-93% on the load bar. My VAS was around 700Mb when it crashes and if it completes loading it gets to about 1133Mb. So I tried changing AM from 14 to 2 and it crashed 2 out of 3.scott s..
Could you upload the scenario?

Chris flying KSEA-OLM(113.4) right now. Currently 15nm from OLM. No problems so far. Currently at 3000ftORBX scenery active...OK now reached OLM left on heading 155, currently 5nm from OLM, no issues so far.No missing object alertsusing Open clouds for real weatherPlan-G also runningFlew around for a while, but nothing at all. in fact good flight apart from the weather.Do you get any missing objects alerts?
Sorry fallen behind reading this stuff, yes I got a missing alert for tire_LM.DDS when approaching Olympia, I have two large green boxes on that airfield showing something is missing. Currently doing a test flight with alerts active in cfg but also BP and JobScheduler deleted from cfg so far so good though not tried it with setting bumped up, they the settings I use for NGX not VFR flying so water is OFF and Autogen on Sparse. The alerts helps but it brings its own risks....black screen of deaths if too many, win one lose another :(

Um. like, what would it take for those folks getting 100% crashes to start posting the saved flight (identifying the lat/long/altitude, aircraft and scenery used) so others can replicate?Cheers,- jahman.
JahmanThere's an established route which other users mentioned on the long thread on ORBX's forum relating to G3D errors i'd have to look it up later, it involved flying through this VOR then heading 155 degrees towards Portland then back again, some users got further many users got within a mile or two from the VOR, I got the error in other areas within PNW but this route proved in the past to crash the sim 100% of the time. Generally with this error you either get it or you dont, just got 3 missing object warnings but no mention what they are
JahmanHorses for courses again I think. Since I have got rid of the missing objects, via dummy bgl files, I have not crashed once, UNLESS it is operator error.
Where do you get these dummy bgl files? I have downloaded and installed the 10 Nr. scenery library files mentioned on Page one, are these what you refer to?

Afaik those libraries are needed for specific (freeware) addons like Misty Moorings... No need to install those libraries if you don't have the addons: they will only take up disk space and FSX won't even know they are there.Afaik you can't download dummy files somewhere...? I think for Orbx those files are included in patches or something like that. If you CAN download them somewhere, I'd like to have them too!
Do you have any area beside PNW installed?
Word Not Allowed I have spme UK2000 sceneries installed and few airports in Europe, Orbx Aus package, UTX for USA/Canada/Europe, GEX for all those too.

I thought someone was saying early on having those 10 libraries cured their G3D issues even though they didnt have Misty etcMy Obrx stuff is up to date

Just to update you guys, with the ShowAlerts=1 in my cfg file I'm seeing loads of green boxes around PNW south of Seattle in the problematic area, get a few pop ups warning me but there's definately textures or scenery missing despite having it patched to version 4. I have three alone on Seattle Tacoma Int, can anyone else check who has PNW, add ShowTriggers=1 into Terrain section plus ShowMissingTextureAlert=1 and MissingLibrary Alert=1

Christhe errors within KSEA and Vashon airport are being adddressed by ORBX as we speak. Meanwhile the fix(for me anyway) was to install the OZx object library and the update from herehttp://aussiex.org/f...e-ozx-librariesthe dummy files were created by JIm(ORBX),whilst we tested the VASHON area, but have since been removed.Simbio (he has posted in this thread), I think he will create them if you ask? All he needs s the GUID number.bear in mind, if you get lots of missing objects in one area (8-10+), then that is most probably an install error. try deleting and reinstalling the addon scenery. Again, that worked for me with EGBB from UK2000.

I don't think it can be duplicated without duplicating my system. It is just the default C172 in Parking 2 at PHOG. But I have many addons in the area, and in particular it looks like a certain traffic bgl is what is causing the g3d.dll error, though I doubt it is anything "wrong" in the bgl file itself (or the AI models), it's just the triggering mechanism. I'm experimenting with mods to the traffic file in question to see if I can narrow it down. My main airports in the area are all FSDT (Honolulu, Hawaii v1, Hawaii v2), and my understanding is the way they do their airports is that the airport objects are modeled as misc simobjects (not bgls) and simconnect is called by their bglmanx.dll to place the simobjects. So this is a bit of a difference from most other scenery addons.scott s..

So, this was yet another completely useless g3d.dll thread I guess... Worried.gifI have also come to realize we can do nothing to prevent g3d.dlls in some specific situations, to name some:overflying EDDF, EBBR with a little higher VAS (cause by our beloved NGX, UTX etc)ORBX in general, with any heavy aircraftThere are enough airports out there for me which don't cause crashes when sim is running on high VAS, and to be honest, I'd rather have generally high LOD, autogen, textures, than having to reduce everything, just to be able to run some addons that tend to crash.I'll be from now on going very carefully about my addons, adding only the ones I fly to. Or thoroughly testing area around airport or specific area with high VAS usage.

So, this was yet another completely useless g3d.dll thread I guess... Worried.gif
That's what I said at the beginning Worried.gif

I don't think it was completely useless. Although we did not find a "magic bullet" to fix this error, we now know that lowering settings can reduce or eliminate g3d.dll crashes in certain areas that are missing objects; the MissingLibraryAlert=1 tweak in the [scenery] section can identify the missing objects whereby a simmer can simply click 'ok' for each missing object and continue to fly w/o crashing (in most cases); higher than normal LOD and other FSX scenery and AI settings can trigger the g3d crash when flying into areas that use large amounts of VAS; and the user now has options: they can lower their settings, enable the MissingLibraryAlert=1 tweak, and/or be very careful what they install and install addons that only apply to areas that they mainly fly to reduce extraneous resources. In addition, I believe wrong 'tweaks' or settings in the FSX.cfg (such as AffinityMask; BP settings) can induce some of these crashes. I personally have learned a lot from this thread and have added it to my Favorites folder so that I can refer to it in the future.Best regards,Jim

You guys are such gluttons for punishment that it makes my head spin...If your willing to put yourselves through so much agony trying to get rid of this, why not just contact Mike Greenblatt over at FS-GS and have him do a complete setup from start to finish and be done with it. Heck, you dont even pay until its done and if your not satisfied you dont even pay. Myself and 3000 others who have used their service fly FSX with no issues and headaches, many of whom post here and have mentioned FS-GS before.I guess everyones different and some almost enjoy the suffering, but for less than $100 bucks and the better part of an afternoon to do the setup, wouldnt it be worth it to save the hassel and aggrevation? All the guys I fly with who are FS-GS clients fly the most demanding scenery areas like ORBX and others and have NO issues with crashes.Just my .02 for those who arent so proud that they will resist professional help if it means a trouble free FSX experience.

Hello JimThe reason folks are having these issues is that they want to run with FSX configured in a way that guarantees that it will exhaust the resources of their OS and hardware whilst running scenery products that have issues in the way they have been developed.Nothing that FS-GS could do about those issuesSome of the guys in this thread have the technical knowledge to set their machines up as well as FS-GS, but the problems stem from pushing FSX much further than FS-GS has on your system.Compared to many on this thead my settings are probably quite conservative, but I do get silky smooth performance and zero CTD'sWithout needing to use FS-GS, all you need is to understand when you are bumping up against the limitations of an old bit of 32bit code and configure the Sim accordingly.
So, this was yet another completely useless g3d.dll thread I guess... Worried.gif
So what happened to testing for the CTD with a single core? Narrowing-down the GD3 CTD to an inter-core thread sync bug would be progress because then we could brainstorm strategies to mitigate this error, perhaps with FSUIPC tweaked to inject micro-pauses when a slew of missing GUIDs are detected so the FSX scenery engine can catch-up. (This is just one idea, I'm sure others may have more/better ideas.)Cheers,- jahman.
