Hi guysI've done a longer flight since coming home & NGX performed fine. I've seen no hit on frames, infact it appears to run smoother. One of the things I did read was to minimise Active Sky 2012 after flight planning, I've not done this before with ASE so it could be just that. I'm not getting into wheather it's worth upgrading from REX because that is a personal issue. It looks very similar & at first glance you would be asking if the money was well spent. For me, it is. I like the textures of the clouds when you are up close & flying through them. I love the way visability is shown & for me it's much more realistic.I will give some more details tomorrow but I started this thread to talk about the NGX when using 2012 & so far it's performed great & I feel my enjoyment of the NGX & the environment has grown enormously.Just a quick note: Active Sky 2012 is a six part download & over 3gig. If you intend to consider it. Read the user guide before hand & take note about FSUIPC requirements.
I have bitten the bullet, and I am downloading now,Question, I have REX installed, what do I do with it now?? DO I fully uninstall?

Keep REX, compare its textures against those in AS2012, and then use the ones you like better.

I think I just read that it overwrites all the REX textures.?

Only in FSX. It will not touch the REX program itself.

How does AS1012 do with IMC and things of that nature? I noticed that ASE would sometimes lower the visibility when flying through a thick OVC layer but it wasnt consistent. How does AS1012 do with that?

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

Thanks very much for your helpful comments, Mike and others. Must admit I've been running behind the times a bit as I'm still using ASX and never purchased REX. In fact until I read this thread here, I wasn't even aware of AS2012 blush.png. I run ASX on a networked laptop to keep the workload off my flightsim PC so AS2012 would need to be able to do that, but from other posts it looks like that won't be a problem. So off on Monday I will go to purchase AS2012 (which will be Tuesday, where I am Cry.gif ).

Cheers,
Emile Bax.

Flight so far,ASE2012, is very smooth, not much cloud here atm though! :)My only problem is more complex routing, I use route finder, before flights, I don;t think the database system for ASE is great yet

Ed,From the Active Sky website :On Monday, December 19, Active Sky 2012 is scheduled for official release to the general public. From what I can see on that same website, licensed users of ASE are entitled to a discounted pre-release purchase until then, which would explain why several members (not me) have already got it. Hope this helps.

1st flight done.Really really amazing approach into Stockholm Arlanda.. COMPLETELY different feel to the simulator. nothing like I have experienced before. I felt the wind shake the aircraft, The fog and visibility on final approach made me think I was int he real thing. The runway lights loomed on me, and then more of the aerodrome.Fantastic so far, look forward to some day rotations tomorrow!

Can't wait to try. Currently installing textures theme and it is taking some time. At 11% in 30 minutes. Is this normal?

What texture resolution?

1024 and I have two very strong machines.
