Active Sky 2012 & NGX

Richard,Nothing to play around with. Make sure you have at least FSUIPC (beta) 4751a, disable all weather settings (button on first tab), set AS2012 to DWC - that's all. You may have to change one or two settings in fsx.cfg, but it's all explained in the documentation.
Is DWC where you just start it up and ASE does the rest?

That would be great fun! Not sure though when and if I will find time to fly today but I hope I will have time for a short flight at least later today when I installed AS 2012 just to try it out! Tomorrow I hope I will be able to fly a lot more when IVAO has it's 'Crowded Skies' event! Most of the time I'm flying as SAS071 on IVAO.Are you also flying on IVAO?

Standard mode depiction drops my FPS from 30FPS to 8FPS every 10 mins for around 30 secs when it updates, this is just a no no for me. if I change to DWC then it's all smooth, but the ATIS is for your current ac position rather than the aiport position. The one thing I hoped would be fixed isn't.I know there is a work around with doing a flight plan and then tunning into a set frequency but what a hassle to have to get a working weather system.Textures look very nice though, need to do some more flights.

That has been fixed as you call it for a long time in both ASE and AS2012 and they would know it too if people could only be bothered to actually read any of the documentation. Tune your Com radio to 122.0 for the current nearest weather station ATIS information and tune 122.02 for your destination ATIS, for the later to work you must have a flight plan loaded into ASE or AS2012. Search the manuals for Voice ATIS or Flightwatch.

Cheers, Andy.

DWC is Direct Weather Control, it's under the Wx Options - Depiction Mode. Might be set already during your installation, mine was.

HiDone many more flights now, all short so that I could change res etc. NGX flight deck on max res throughout on all my flights so far. This morning I departed EGGD Bristol for EGPF Glasgow. 3D cloud res on 4096x4096. All other AS2012 maxed too. As I departed there were only two cloud layers visable but everything went smooth. Weather updated enroute but I hit problems after TOD. As I approached Scotland I could see serious build up & soon I could see the frame rate drop. As I passed down into the first layer it became obvious that I was looking at nine different layers below me & each layer was very busy. My system started to stutter for a while & was not enjoyable at all. The clouds though were sensational at that res as you would expect. I landed & changed textures to 2048x2048 saved all & rebooted both AS2012 & FSX then took off again with my system clearly performing better. Landing at EGNT Newcastle I changed again to 1024x1024 & it was so smooth returning to Glasgow that I made my mind up there & then to stick with this setting for the next few flights. My system specs are:-i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93Ghz 8g Ram GeForce GTXX260 1.75g graphics. All this had no impact on the NGX at all & I'm sure that PMDG will be pleased about that!So what's the difference between REX/ASE & just AS2012 well, from the outside not much except that I now only need the one program. In flight AS2012 delivers an incredable sense of being there. One issue which is appalling about Flt Sims in general is the weather. In a real aircraft you feel the dynamics of the weather & a sense of speed as you pass through or near to clouds which puts a smile on all pilots faces even after thirty years of flying. Another, is that you can be inside a cloud for several minutes or longer as you pass through layers. Not been able to get that in FSX. In FSX you see a cloud appraoch but you pass through it like a curtain, even REX fails to please fully. AS2012 is a vast improvement & on my last flight into LSZH Zurich I entered cloud at 8000ft & only saw the ground again at 700ft agl. The runway was covered in snow, the visability just 600m & I knew then that this weather program is different & for me worth every penny. So, to sum up-it looks much the same at first & that might be a little disappointing to some, but in feel it's like comparing the NG in 2004 to the NGX in FSX it just feels great & is NGX friendly.Screen shots can't show you how it feels so I've not included them, even AS2012 website screen shots & video do not show what's good about this product.

Nicely put, i supose thats why they are calling total weather immersion and yes the ngx runs beautifully alongside as2012 but i also have to run at 1024x1024, i cranked the cirrus up and had a few stutters but im well happy with 1024 res

AS2012 and NGX - a fine combination. The new weather program is really good - enjoyed most the new features (the quick wind changes are finally OK!).I just didn't like the road textures!

I aggree Mike , Ihave just done a flight from EGPF to EGLL at 30000ft with with AS2012 and FSUICP registered and a great flight no problemscomparing it with REX2 & ASE combined my opinion AS2012 comes on top much smoother and I think better looking and also getting correct winds aloft.so REX2 and ASE put in my backup drive its AS2012 for me

BTW if you use PFE you can ask for ATIS info and it will pop up as a ACARS style read out in your Checklist/Notes window (Shift F10) i think. Im having a hard time getting to grips with PFE though, its so much more complex to set up then Radar Contact but it does have some nice features like audio guides that tell you which way to go on the taxiway =)

Comparisons between ASE 2012 and REX 2 are appreciated indeed, above all comparing FPS and quality.I think some screenshots would pleasure the mass tooMe included wink.pngThx in advance
