December 19, 201114 yr EDIT AGAIN: Am I the only one who just woked up to the fact that Flight (for the high settings) as a requirement of 64-bit for the OS and not 32, can this be the second surprise I was talking about?I strongly suspect the only reason they state a 64 bit OS is because the RAM quoted for the higher settings is 6GB. Since only 4GB can be addressed in 32 bit systems, a 64 bit OS is necessary to be able to utilise 6GB. I would love there to be a 64 bit version of Flight, but I would be extremely suprised indeed if were available as anything other than a 32 bit application.

Wow! That's new. :(No it's not new, it's just that you don't know what I know and it's pi$$ing you off, that's all.
December 19, 201114 yr Regarding the OP's query, as usual I say 'who cares'? Said it before and I'll say it again, FS has always been about GA for the everyman featuring a Cessna, not jet transports - that theme seems to continue with Flight but on steroids. MS can do whatever they like with LIVE, Missions/gameplay - that's cool. All I ask is the whole planet in reasonable detail as usual, a solid weather engine and full 3rd party support so the devs can give us the custom hi fidelity airliners to which we 'long time enthusiasts' are accustomed. Regards, Mark
December 19, 201114 yr according to this thread...yes there will be jetshttp://forum.avsim.net/topic/356782-lets-close-the-deal-poll/ Tom "I just wanna tell you both: good luck. We're all counting on you."
December 19, 201114 yr That is indeed why a 64-bit OS is needed if Flight can use 6GB of ramsI personally never drew any inference that Flight itself would actually use / need 6 GB RAM, so I don't think there has been any misleading statements on the part of MS. I took the 6GB to mean that is what is required to be installed in the PC if one were to run Windows 7 64 bit plus Flight. Since a boot into Windows 7 64 bit with just a couple of basic apps running already can easily absorb 2GB of real memory, I would never draw a conclusion that Flight itself would need 6GB and as a consequence be a 64 bit application. If MS felt that Flight needed 6GB of RAM, then I imagine their system target for running on high settings would require 8 - 12 GB of RAM, not 6 GB.That said, it really is high time that we ubiquitously got 64 bit gaming applications. There is no current game on the planet (and a huge number of old ones) that could run anywhere remotely near an acceptable level of performance on 32 bit hardware. I have lost count of how many years it has been since 64 bit processors came onto the market but it would have to have been sometime in the early to mid 2000s.
December 19, 201114 yr Just curious, but 10GB seems like far more than just Hawaii. That's what I've been thinking too. Jehan Kateli
December 19, 201114 yr It's not an Vans RV-7 :( It's an RV-6.Lol, I think maybe that only matters to me... :(I stand corrected. It could be fun though, buzzing Hawaii in that little bird. December 19, 201114 yr Commercial Member That's what I've been thinking too. Well not really because if M$ flight is going to be arcade game it has probably lots of stuff we did not see in FSX, lots of missions, stories, maybe you can even walk outside aircraft. That can make it to be 10GB even with Hawaii only.

December 19, 201114 yr Each 32 bit application runs fine on 64 bit OS, even FSX runs fine on 64 bits. That is only a suggestion, it doesn't imply anything. Flight will be a pure 32bit game but it will run better on 64 OSs cause they are more stable.I see people having 6-8-12GB of RAM playing FSX. What a waste of RAM and money, just open the task manager when FSX is running and you will notice that it never goes beyond 2 GB of RAM occupation, maybe a bit more ( up to 3GB ) if many heavy addons are involved.
