Why don't we stay on message...and stop with the personal stuff..cause otherwise I have to shut a perfectly interesting thread down.I certainly would never buy a house without comparing other houses of similar price ranges and differening features, likewise with a car-I would never consider looking at only one brand and model. Goes also for tv's, computers, anything out there that I am going to put my hard earned money into-to not compare features of other brands is very limiting.

What if X Plane was used as the base platform...and FSX was being compared against it?Safe to assume there would be an outcry from the FSX crowd?

It isn't about outcrys. It is about careful unbiased inspection into what each sim offers. I don't make house choices based on emotion-neither do I tv's. To not compare is a foolish consumer.

It's just too bad there are some that don't share your views, Geof...about careful unbiased inspections.

http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2177793And my replyhttp://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2177800Does that refresh your memory?Am I confusing you with someone else?
funny .. my message was poking fun at you after you accused me of not having XP9 ......please remember the context.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/354732-initial-review-of-demo-beta/page__st__125__p__2172080#entry2172080 :(

I agree that some will not put it thru its paces like some should-but I believe it all comes out in the wash. Already, one sees much more activity and new users here so I think that bodes well. The anti initial fsx reaction was 100 fold what you see to xplane-and that went on for years-only in the last year or two has it really come into its own. Some always see potential and others see immediacy and that is fine.I think what has to be taken into account is there can be and should be compares of each sim. Also there are many like me that have invested $1000's into our present sim, so for us to want to make a move and investment to another sim and start from scratch the feature set has to have something very compelling to abandon such an investment, and yes a compare can be made with our present add ins, vs. future potential of a new sim without. That is why I made the compare to real airplanes-you see the same. People buy an aircraft, put lots of money into it making it their aircraft, but are perhaps disatisfied still about certain parts of the aircraft. At some point, a new model comes out, and then the owner has to weigh carefully whether the features of the new one outweigh their investment and customization of their present one, or whether they wish to move completely to a new untried model that may also have quirks and will require the same customization cycle. I have had a conversation with my past flying partner about this exactly, as this is the place he finds himself. Does he get a tried and true older model that has much available for it, or buy a new aircraft which has lots going for it but it is a mystery where it will go.With that in mind, I think simmers also have to keep in mind xplane is not fsx, and fsx is not xplane-they really are two very different animals.I have told several friends recently, my mode when a new sim comes out is to use it for at least a month exclusively putting it thru all its paces. At the end of the month I go back to the old one-and judge my reaction at that point. Frankly up till now, after doing this with the past xplane series I have always gone back. This is the first one I can say my reaction is the opposite, this despite a rather healthy investment in software and even costly hardware which now will not work in xplane.Beyond my opinion, is everyone's simmers needs. I for instance don't use atc-don't need the practice, find the button pushing/radio frequency tuning annoying with a mouse, and just don't use it. Also, rw I have never flown into a class B airport. Well I almost did once-till I found out that there was a $50 landing fee and a $50 takeoff fee, and to tie it down for the day was going to be exhorbitent, and that the fuel cost $2/gal more. (I instead flew to a small uncontrolled airport 6 miles away and rented a car.). So for me -I don't really care about detailed major airports, watching tons of ai traffic on real schedules land-in fact despite buying almost all the "complex" airliners my eyes glaze over at the first few button pushes and I can never get past that. So again features I really don't need or use. If these things are paramont to someone else, then one has to accept that xplane 10 may not do it for them, and I can fully understand them taking a look, comparing , and saying it is not for them.I do like a sim that doesn't crash right in the middle of when I am enjoying myself which seems to happen more and more with fsx (and by the way I hold fsx not responsible at all-its base is very stable-it is the gazillion add ons I have added to it that are the culprit), I like a lack of blurries with scenery that is a new high of detail (except for major cities), I like double the performance I get in fsx and a lack of stuttering, and I like the fact that the plane feels more like a real taking off/landing aircraft than it does in fsx (with the right add on aircraft)-the fact is I just feel more "real" in xplane 10 than I do in fsx-even with its present deficiencies..I also have always only flown in the summer season in fsx cause I just find the other seasons don't look as real to me-and so 1 season does not present a problem for me (and I hate flying in winter-rw-just too cold!).Now there is still lots that fsx does better-way better which is amazing for a older sim. Atc-even default, Missions (I know people for the most part have looked down on them but they can be one of the most useful training devices out there), shared cockpits, and yes worldwide landmarks, seasons. There is lots that xplane does better, systems failures, non blurry scenery, performance, weather, road placement, water placement..I guess my point is-a good review should compare other sims that are available to the consumer. That is what is on the market, and that is what consumers want to know about...and yes when the next ms sim comes out that should be compared too. I am staying with Xplane 10 right now for what it has to offer now-but also based on potential I see for the future. If that potential does not happen, and another sim comes out in that time that offers more-I will be whisking off to that. After all as a consumer, with no loyalty-that is how it works in a free market place! To do otherwise is to have a loyalty mindset to one sim-which at least to me limiting if you are looking for the best experience...and yes..we may be back to the 1990's where there will be multiple sims to use-because between all of them they give us the best experience.

No because the reviews would then say that FSX beats the base product hands down.
[snip] . . . Iracing does have some special stuff so I do pay a monthly for that. Lets hope flight will want to make me spend some $$ :)
Hi Jason So you are also a racing fan!I heard rfactor2 is very close to release. Seems to promise a lot. I almost got tempted with iracing but I decided not to bother. I kind of don't really like the idea of paying every month.

Fortunately there are real world pilots (Geofa) that think differently from you. X-P and FSX have pluses and minuses, an honest and balanced review would never say FSX beats X-P 10 hands down...MarcoP.S. (Yeah, they say "don't feed them", but sometimes I just couldn't help don't feeding them...)

Hmmm Geof! A post of reason. An increasing rarity these days. I don't have the problem of deciding which. I made the decision to skip FSX when I saw all the complaints and stayed with FS2004 until I got into Xplane 9.Never looked back since, but mainly cos Linux is my OS of choice. FS2004 I thought was pretty damn good.Pete

I like XP-10 so far. Just running the demo though. But based on Geofa's recommendation, I bought the Carenado F33 Bonanza. Have been using it in XP9 & 10. I like it. I also like the Sequoia Falco I purchased for XP9. However, unlike Geofa..........I don't feel that they surpass my RealAir Marchetti SF260, which I've been enjoying in FS2002, FS2004, and lastly ...the updated version for FSX. It reminds me very much of real airplane's, since my Van's RV6 flies quite similarly, and the fact that I've also flown the real SF260. The Falco, RV, and SF260 also have sliding canopies, which I like for the view. These are airplanes that fly with a light touch, and are more sportscar like. So there you have it. I'm enjoying both sims. I've just never thought that X-Plane was more for the "real pilot".........as it's often marketed. It's that marketing approach, that's always bugged me, and still does. On the other hand, if that marketing approach can make an individual, millions, as it's done............then I see the reasoning.
I don´t know whether the pictures have been reworked but X-Plane looks somehow cartoonish. That´s what I only can say about X-Plane (I´ve never used it and I don´t wan´t to start another X-Plane vs. FSx riot.). It may be superior in terms of FDE but it´s look is just not right.
i AGREE 100%.Ive always said that FSX looks cartoonish with pastal coloring. Even FS9 exceeds FSX in this regard.
Take my views for what there worth. L.Adamson
Noted. And I will!
What I want to know is how many real flying hours he has.
How many flight hours (total time/type) does one need to have to be able to review an aircraft and/or flight simulation software?

About $80usd worth. :(
