January 3, 201214 yr Doesn't British Airways operate Boeing 757s out of New York-JFK?British Airways no doubt operates a number of types out of JFK, but only the A318s go to London City, the rest go to Heathrow, Gatwick or other parts of Britain.John-Alan Pascoe John-Alan Pascoe
January 3, 201214 yr British Airways don't operate the 757 anymore, and never to New York. The BA owned Open Skies do however. From Paris - Orly to Newark (previously JFK)
January 3, 201214 yr Those interested in the definitive list of aircraft approved to land at EGLC can find it here:http://www.lcacc.org/aircraft/But one aspect of the airport which surely won't be properly modelled in fsx is the wind, which (given all the tall buildings nearby) can be swirly indeed on a gusty day, as this unfortunate SwissAir pilot discovered (allegedly it took months of work before they could fly the aircraft out again) —http://www.youtube.c...B&v=s5prz1Ae5QMCheers,Brian Edited January 3, 201214 yr by brian747
January 3, 201214 yr But one aspect of the airport which surely won't be properly modelled in fsx is the wind, which (given all the tall buildings nearby) can be swirly indeed on a gusty day,I know this only too well as I'm working right next to London city airport today. The gusts at the moment are upto 37mph Gavin Price
January 3, 201214 yr I took the -800 in there a couple of weeks ago. I was very light, a reposition from South Hampton with no load on board. It performed very well. You have to be fully configured/very dirty before the G/S intercept.Leaving there, I went to Gibralter LXGB - with about 15K-20K load on board -- It performed very well, takeoff was no problem (less than a 10kt headwind) - and I had the packs off for the extra umph of power.I reiterate - fully configured before G/S intercept.Eric Toll
January 3, 201214 yr I have the uk2000 xtreme london City and took the 600 with an autoland to see how it would cope with the 5.5 slope. The brakes were on 3,all out with 122 kts.No problem with the length of the runway. It's a very nice view on the approach I can recommend it.AlainV
January 3, 201214 yr It's quite fun to try it in fsx — in fact it was my second flight with the NGX:But even if it was permitted IRL I certainly wouldn't be too happy about trying it with the sort of winds that we were getting in the south of England this morning!!Cheers,Brian Edited January 3, 201214 yr by brian747
January 3, 201214 yr It fesible, I managed to get a -700 into Lugano (LSZA) and the glide slope was like -6.6 and a runway which was just a little over 4000 feet. Made for a very interesting approach
January 3, 201214 yr Another interesting airport is Sion (LSGS) in Switzerland. To land on rwy 25 you have to fly east up the valley to approx 25NM from the field at 17,000ft then turn onto a six degree IGS approach. The runway is approx 6,500ft so easier to stop than at EGLC. In real life I think that 737BBJ's land there. Regards Nixon Thomas
January 3, 201214 yr I asked in the Airliners.net forum if SAS ever considered using the -600 from the three Scandinavian capitals to EGLC. The replies ranged from the -600 not being certified to a low demand for business travel from Scandinavian countries to downtown London to putting more money into the -600, which is not attractive in terms of operating costs compared to its larger siblings.Of course, I still tried it since I own Aerosoft's LondonX VFR and UK2K's EGLC. It's fun and scenic!Luis Linares LUIS LINARES Processor: Intel Core i9 6700K 9900K (5.0 GHz Turbo) Eight Core; CPU Cooling: NXXT Kraken X62 280mm CPU Liquid Cooler; System Memory: 64GB Corsair DDR4 SDRAM @ 3200 MHz, RGB; Graphics Processor: 11GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, GDDR6, Primary Drive: 2TB Samsung 850 Pro Solid State Drive (SSD)
January 5, 201214 yr Just for entertainments sake, and to sarisfy my curiosity I tried and landed a very empty 767 (CS) at EGLC. Granted fsx modelling is far from reality, it all went peachy. Jason Lee
January 5, 201214 yr British Airways don't operate the 757 anymore, and never to New York. The BA owned Open Skies do however. From Paris - Orly to Newark (previously JFK)British Airways definitely did operate a 757 from BHX to JFK in the 90's,I was regularly on it :Money Eyes:regards Jim
January 5, 201214 yr It is one thing to be able to land on take-off normally from a runway in FS. If the model is well modelled, then the aircraft would prolly lift-off or land safely even in RL under normal circumstances. But throw in an engine failure on V1, or a slippery runway landing, and there goes... That is why a 737 will lift off within 1000 meters, but you wont see them operating from 1000 meter runways. --Peter Fabian
