March 1, 201214 yr It's a shame because FS11 was originally going to include a lot of features never seen before from what I hear. Word is, they were gonna include icing/deicing effects, STARs and DPs, career features, and voice recognition, among others. I don't know to what extent this was going to be implemented knowing MS/ACES, however, it sounds like FS11 was being developed with every intent on replacing FSX as a new improved sim. Then a certain individual at MS (initials S.B.) closed them down and their lead code guy was very willing to change the format to this new "game".Anyone know if this sounds about right? The person posting this info on another site is pretty adamant and angry about this whole history with MS, the studio and flight sim's death, so to speak. Sounds like he worked for them but doesn't directly say it.Oh, and it's not a flight sim forum or even related to aviation, so don't go looking, lol. You'll likely never find it. March 2, 201214 yr ... I've bought the hawaii addon pack and it does look very nice.it is however a very lonely flightsim experience If you 'play it' rather than 'flightsimming it' you'll find it's actually not a lonely experience at all...F.i. you'll have an old geezer sitting next to you while he'll let you fly his own homebuild RV-6 on a hairraising trip along a ravine. If you survive a photographer joins you for a likewise hairraising trip along some of the smaller airstrips around Oahu which he'd like to shoot from the air and from the ground as well as he asks you to land on some of the most difficult ones. If you're still alive you'll be asked to go and search for a lost kayaker. If you manage to find him he'll jump aboard and happily chats the phones off of your ears. And so on and so forth. ( a lot of work must've gone into the audio, if you don't make use of that you'll be missing much of the point of MS Flight )MS Flight is a game and if you play it like that it's really good fun and you won't be missing ATC nore AI at all. You'll need all your flying skills to stay alive to worry about that. Leave ATC, AI and Free Flight for FSX. Why not, éh ?... :smile:For people who keep on comparing Flight with FSX (which really is kind of ridiculous, you just don't compare any game with FSX, do you ) the Flight Maule looks and flies better than the FSX default Maule... B)cheers, jan Jan
March 2, 201214 yr ^Because that would be similar to asking Volkswagen to design the Space Shuttle succesorMaybe, but 3 thirds parties could join together to initiate a such project (maybe join the X-plane team). From my point of view, new planes and sceneries are today quite enough to enjoy FSX. They'll not going to live indefinitely from FSX, declining all aircrafts that boeing or airbus will release. .If they cannot not enter Flight or living from X-plane (I don't know this platform) , they have to investigate a new economic model and (why not ?) to create a joint venture, hiring formers dev from ACES to create what FSX enthousiast are waiting for the suite (from my point of view, essentially a new graphic engine that uses GPUs).That's a big gamble, a big blow. successes are almost always due to the daringjust my 2 cents.
March 2, 201214 yr With my post earlier I was not implying that flight wasn't a good software it - it was meant in a way that instead of having a paid for simulator you have to actually buy different parts of the game side tracking from there morales since the beginning of FS . Plus you can brag about how high you are up the landing challenges you still had to pay nearly as much as I did for FSX gold!!! Matthew Marshall (PPL)
March 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member Nice to see that the airline pilot wannabees are still talking a load of garbage !When you have completed the six RV-6 challenges properly in Flight then we might have Something to talk about.Till then, carry on playing Pilot.Fred.They posted their opinions.Just like you posted yours...remember...?http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2247641And you have the nerve to call them "wannabe pilots" posting a "load of garbage."You're definitely an interesting individual.I think I'll "carry on playing pilot".Goran
March 2, 201214 yr A little late here. Thanks Robert for the comments and relaying what played out with Flight and PMDG. I'm curious at what was meant by FSX initially not ready on release and causing havoc with PMDG's 2006/2007 development cycle and plans. Is that referring to service pack 1 and 2 , or in general that FSX had and still has serious flaws? Like others have mentioned, FSX on today's i7 computers even still has room to improve for max settings. Personally I found FSX still an amazing product and have pretty much completely abandoned FS9 now. It's hard to beat flying around your local airport with good effects, 3rd party addons or not. For example my local airport with morning dew fog and car traffic on the nearby local freeways and ramps. If MS wanted to get more of a share in the "secondary market" they should have made more optional addons to FSX. For example, maybe made an update for weapon fire and destructive effects, and a Combat Flight Simulator encapsulation for FSX. I felt they just didn't want to invest in creating their own addon team or division for FSX until too late now. In fact, a lot of Flight looks like their own stab at 3rd party like improvements to the FSX engine, namely Hawaii scenery and their own detailed planes with that "variable light dimming" which PMDG already has a bunch of those dimming light knobs in 737NGX. Walking around reminds me of "Active Camera" for FS9 and "Walk and follow" for FSX Edited March 2, 201214 yr by krylite

March 2, 201214 yr When i say lonely i should have explained myself better..i just find the out of window experience stagnant..I can see slight movement in the water ,but it looks plastic.no cars on the roads ,no aircraft at the airports (although there are some helis parked somewhere)no impression of a living world is really what i'm getting at. I know there are missions where you can hear voices and that is very good..it's the outside that i find a bit dead.i live in hope that eventually MS will bring out an addon for moving traffic On roads, water and in the air.should say that i'm working my way through the missions and they are very good.bought the Maule and that very good, and the hawaii addon pack steve-0 Edited March 2, 201214 yr by stevehowe REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
March 2, 201214 yr A sad indictment of Flight: I can't even be bothered to download or install it, now that it's freely available. It just has zero interest to me. Mike TomkinsKnoxville, TNFlight Sim user since the subLOGIC / Apple II days
March 2, 201214 yr You must work for Microsoft. At this stage I wish I did. I would be a major asset to anyone who wants a RW pilot with over 30 years experience.Fred. Frederic Steiner.
