DLC more expensive then I hoped

Haha surely thats amazing business model if those planes are (other than graphically) same quality that FSX defaults were. The difference is that for FSX you could have downloaded them free as it has freeware community.Mm, anyway if we assume that whole world would be modeled in Flight in DLCs (which of course wont happen), I would surely need to pay more than I have ever spent to FSX to get all areas I like to fly over.

The thing that 3rd party developers have not given us yet is a modern graphics engine.
I thought that Flight has same engine that FSX has, with some tweaks of course? At least it looks very much like FSX with some fixes and good addon scenery. Which is not too modern in my opinion. But I hope all best to Flight, just making some point outs abut their business model.

I finally watched the a really bad dude/Flight video on Youtube last night. He and his colleagues actually discussed most of the points that are making your head hurt. Maybe the new forum rule should be 'no posting comments already made by a really bad dude'. :)

"There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."

If quality and performance are OK then the prices are OK as long as there will be some basic coverage between 'areas'. I mean I would not be willing to buy an Pacific Ocean DLC just for the water if I - hopefully one day - can fly from Hawaii to KLAX. Same if - hopefully one day - from KLAX to KJFK: I would be willing to buy the 2 DLC for KLAX and KJFK but I of course would expect to see some landmass under me without having to buy detailed (!) DLC for all states I cross at FL360 and higher. In any case this applies what I just wrote in another thread:

I will download and install Flight and I know myself good enough to tell you already now that I will also buy the Hawaii DLC and possibly the Maule. Yes, I'd be willing to go the DLC route BUT what lowers my enthusiasm or rather curiosity is the fact that there is still no time line from MS telling what is in the works or what they plan. I mean I do not expect a global roadmap with exact dates for continents or such. But before I start buying stupid points to buy additional content I want to know whether my investment is well put. I would not want to spend any more than probably for the Hawaii DLC if I do not see the light somewhere in form of some sort of commitment of MS. Unless MS comes up with some plan I will not invest more than max. 40 bucks if I need to fear that Flight indeed will be a failure and MS stops the project in the near (which can still be 2-3 years) future OR MS decides not to provide content for us 'hardcore' simmers. Reason is exactly what was stated here before, Flight is not an open platform anymore. If I decide to invest money I want to see benefits. It's like funding / investing in a startup. I want to see the business case before I 'heavily' invest so I do not need to fear that my investment is lost once MS decides in the near/not so near future to stop the project or keep going the arcade game road and add more colourful coins across Europe or elsewhere. So before there is a clear commitment from MS that they will do airliners, AI, ATC and other regions I will not invest more than some bucks to try out the product and have some fun flying time over Hawaii. I do not want to end up like a donkey and the dangling carrot what MIGHT come or may not. MS will hopefully clarify some of these points once Flight is released.

That's not the main problem (for me, anyway and fortunately). My main point was that these kind of prices aren't the kind of prices you'd expect when you are targetting a new crowd. I was expecting some sort of 'low prices, high sales' idea, just as with smartphones apps. Poeple buy those without thinking about it. But they won't quickly buy 1600 worth of DLC.BTW Having to buy points also doesn't help because you never know how much points you will need in the future and if you will use all the points you purchased at one time... but that's probably just me not being used to console-like DLC... Those points have been around for ages now so suppose I can get used to that. :wink:Anyway, I am 99% sure already that I will buy the Hawaii pack, because 1. I would like to have a bit more scenery than just the main island to really get a feel for MS Flight, and 2. because I am mainly interested in the RV-6a (I am quite happy they decided to put that one in the package!). I don't care about the default aircraft (unless there will be more then the two we know off now). Since I am used to flying above smallish area's (Orbx) and usually only fly one plane for months, I think I can have fun with MS Flight plus that first pack for quite some time. By the time I've had enough of that combo, I am sure other and more interesting DLC will be available. In the meantime I am sure I will be flying the PMDG 737NGX a lot in FSX. MS Flight will be my Orbx-replacement only at first.

count me in here as well. I would easily be willing to buy the 75USD package but my concern is that they surely will expire (?) and unless MS puts out a time line with additional content available via DLC I will surely buy only as much as I need to cover my initial 'expenses' as I do not want to see me sitting on 10,000 MS dollars with only aircraft to buy which have no cockpit or yet another Hawaii tourist resort/hotel...

Unfortuantly thats probably not going to happen as we're under an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement)I have to agree with those who say it will be a fun flying game, I don't have the extra stuff, just the stearman and the icon, but do quite enjoy flying the Stearman around with all the flying aids turned off. I don't however see it as a replacement for FSX/Prepar3d or even XPlane. I will probably download the release version and fly around in that for a while, while keeping my 'serious simming' for the other platforms.

This is a very good point. The only one's that would buy add-ons at the price point proposed would be those in this very community that's not the target market. It's amazing how this contradiction keeps cropping up in various ways with Microsoft and their 20+ year virtual flying experiment.

Wow this is pure genius, you really are quite the conversationalist. lol.

Just my opinion. The cost for the add on's are too much and the area covered to fly is way to small. I would maybe pay $5 or $10 for an airplane I liked and maybe $25 for some scenery I like but only if it's a large enough area and where I actually want to fly. Not Hawaii. Also I just purchased a new car for Forza 4 with MS points and paid only 200 points for the car. Super detailed car perfect sound great graphics. Other games don't charge so much for their content. Why is Flight charging so much??Perfectly happy with FSX and my payware.

Prices will come down with DLC as time goes on and give flight a try because I figure Microsoft will add prop planes and other areas to fly as time goes on.

People are expecting iphone appstore pricing. The pricing here seems to me the same as Microsoft charge for xbox DLC, more or less. Download games and DLC on that platform are not particularly cheap.

"There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."

Im looking forward to it again. I was kinda let down at first by the Hawaii only concept but then I thought about it and it makes more sense to be able to buy good quality versions of only what you want. The video I saw today showed some really nice lighting and it was very smooth and I dont think anyone who is on the outside (most of us) can say what will or won't be included in the future. Im still not convinced that well known addon retailers wont be doing scenery and things for Flight. We just dont know yet. ( or at least I dont know)I have been purely a GA flyer for quite a while now and when Orbx PNW came out, I flew nowhere else. The idea of getting all of Hawaii and a few planes for $20 seems quite fair. what will matter to me is the size and quality of the add on areas and what price theywill be. I already paid quite a bit when I add up all the Orbx areas and airports. Im at least willing to give Flight a chance. Having a modern graphics flying environment should be pretty cool. But I do not at all get why anybody would want a P51 they could only fly from the outside. Thats unreasonable. To each his own , perhaps.
