If you like Aerofly FS, you'll LOVE FLIGHT!

Featured Replies

Here's why I say this:I've been flying Aerofly FS for about 3 weeks now (FSX is still my "go to" sim) and it's quite good. It's ONLY Switzerland. The flight models are beautiful, and the scenery is "so-so". It's fun for a diversion from FSX and the sounds are excellent. However, it is very easy to get a little bored with the limitations of Aerofly. There is no REAL weather, and you can't pick out any airport and necessarily be on the ground. Sometimes the only choice is to be "in the air" when you start. The flight models are beautifully rendered, but you are limited in your choices. Someday, they may expand the stable of airplanes, and the geography, but it's not there yet. It's smoother than anything I've ever flown, with no stutters or FPS variations. It stays at 60 or greater all the time. It does not support my Microsoft FF2 joystick with FF capabiltiy. My stick just becomes a regular stick. Although there is photographic scenery, when you land at a populated airport, the AI there is flat and lacks any kind of depth at all.My point is that FLIGHT, to the best of my limited understanding, will have much more going for it out of the chute! The beautiful islands of Hawaii and potential expansion is great. It may not be a competitor to FSX as we know it.....but we DON'T know that! All the negative comments are truly unfounded. I will definitely buy FLIGHT and expect the Microsoft magic to become part of it. Real Weather, Airport selection and runway selection, and potential expansion QUICKLY.Looking forward to the 28th of February.Stan

It's not only about negativity... critics are necessary for any products to get better in the future. I don't think it's being negative to say that you would like to see more airports, atc, ai traffic, sdk etc in MS Flight. Nothing is perfect so is MS Flight.

HelloNot all negative comments are unfounded, I have made more than a few and I have been using Flight! since 5/JanThere is also no real weather just canned themes. There is airport and runway selection but you cannot start at the gate unless you move yourself there then save the situation.Your Microsoft FF2 joystick with FF will work just as well as it does in Aerofly.

Well, that's not good news about my FF joystick. There is no connection to weather online? I don't like that either. I hope that the Beta you've been flying is NOT the FLIGHT final release. But we'll see.Stan

So this thread went something like..."You'll LOVE FLIGHT...wait a minute, what do you mean it's missing real-time weather...doh!...and my joystick won't work...doh!!!...damn you Microsoft...but maybe they're adding all the good stuff this week...doh!...now I'm so depressed...":)

I am tired of all of the nonsense in here. Can ya'll just give it a chance before bashing it before it has even been released??To the OP:Well written and I appreciate the positive energy you brought into this forum. :(

Hey ben, just paraphrasing (with a little artistic licence) the thread. It was kind of funny how it read...If you've been reading the Flight forum the last few weeks then you'll know I'm really looking forward to the release. See you on the 29th.@spilok: i've also got a ff2, though i don't use it much now. Will be interesting to see if ms supports their own stick. And as for weather - if the engine is ok, adding realtime weather (if its missing), doesn't sound too hard. It would be a popular feature.

So one could reason there will be a real weather expansion offered by MS. Among other things. A stretch, but I hope I'm not nickel and dimed to death to have a rounded sim. Like I was nickel and dimed to get FSX where it is for me now...My above comments are based on unfounded, uneducated assumptions fed by the rumor mill.

I like your last sentence - should be obligatory on all flight posts. Here, i've improved it:"My above comments are based on unfounded, uneducated assumptions fed by the rumor mill and/or breach of my NDA."(please tick as appropriate):)I'm confident flight will support a good range of basic hardware on release - but also hope MS will work with goflight/vriinsight/teamLinda etc to get that sort of 'enthusiast' gear working some time down the track. And i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who'd put track ir support at the top of MS's work list.

Now theres an opportunity right there for a company. Flight does not come with real time weather according to someone, well thats great, So any 3rd party company out there ready to go in there and sort that out as DLC content. Wait a few months I suppose and if the customer base is large enough and eager enough it could be some good income for you. Maybe one of them is already working on something. As Force feedback does not seem to work either, maybe something like FSForce could be something that could become a DLC style addon too.I think its a sort of wait and see, see how popular it is and how popular DLC is and I am sure some 3rd parties will want to give it a go.

You are "nickel and dimed" with MS current versions as well ....

Like a lot of hardcore simmers i was angry and felt left alone when became clear that Microsoft would not release a 'Flight Simulator 11' at this moment.Nevertheless I shall try Ms Flight 'game or simulator' without prejudice, it's not my habit to reject it before i know it or tried it.If the flight dynamics are ok, if you can, beside 'playing' it with low realism settings with your mouse or keyboard, also 'fly' it with high realism settings with my Saitek yoke, pedals and quadrants and if it is at least as realistic as FSX with addon expansions then it can be nice because the graphics look very good.In this optimistic scenario it could have the technical potential for growing and even becoming a kind of FS 11. But even in that case i'm afraid it will be limited because there will be no room for third party addons so it seems. So in the worst scenario there's besides an expanded FS 2004 or FSX, only X-Plane 9.7 or the new XP10 as a real modern simulator left ( XP10 has indeed great potential but is still in an early beta with many drawbacks: At this moment there are still no buildings on most airports, no seasonal textures, clouds are more processor demanding than FSX even with my GTX 570 card, there is not much AI Traffic unless you let drop your framerate, etc .....)Maybe also AeroflyFS from Ikarus which has great potential but is very restricted at this stage: only (stunning graphics !) Switzerland, instruments: only the 'basic six' for VFR flying (no fuel or weight control, no radio's, no NAV, so no IFR and no ATC) but good flight dynamicsAnd you have of course also the FREE Flight Gear and iFly! Legacy: very nice projects in evolution, especially !Fly! Legacy, but at this moment not a real alternative for an expanded FSX.I've read a report in the Avsim General X-Plane forum from a beta tester of Flight who is a retired 737NG Pilot. (KLM and RYANAIR) and he claims the flight dynamics are a lot better than in FSX, flight dynamics that in my humble opinion are still more realistic in general at this moment than X-Plane 10.04 Beta 2 (groundhandling problems with wind, exagerated yaw from props, ...), luckily the flight dynamics in the latest beta in wind and turbulence is more realistic, a roller coaster was fun but not realistic flying!Let's wait and try it.
