February 16, 201214 yr It didn't take much more than 5 minutes for my disappointment to outweight my patience, maybe even less!Wow. Here I thought I was the only person who didn't like the Lancair. There's something twitchy about it, and I never liked that A-pillar or whatever you call it getting in the way of the outside view. Though in fairness, it's really not my kind of airplane. I don't do much high-and-fast. The RealAir Duke and Turbine Duke are wonderful, but I don't spend all that much time in them. If, on the other hand, ORBX ever resumes production on the Jabiru, I might take a look at that.About the ORBX regions and whether I'll keep all of them on my newbuild - I bought Australia (all of it) just because it was so good, sort of in the same spirit that I bought FlightZone Rhode Island and Portland during my last few months in FS9. While it was fun to explore Australia a bit, I wasn't able to develop that much feeling for it, most likely because I've never been there. The NA regions got me a bit closer, but even with those, I find I'm much more inclined to fly locally. I've learned the hard way that I'm really a weather freak - I love to be able to fly local conditions in real time, and that usually overrides my desire to explore strange new worlds... I bought Aerosoft Antarctica expecting to get a lot of use out of it but so far haven't spent much time down there, either.I hate to admit I'm provincial and in most things I try not to be, but I guess when it comes to FSX I'm pretty domestic.Again - if ORBX comes to the northeast and mid-atlantic, and I'm still in FSX, I'll check them out. If, on the other hand, ORBX ever resumes production on the Jabiru, I might take a look at that.My expectations of the Lancair were much higher than what was released. I thought that they would do for aircraft what they did for ground scenery. Instead it seemed not much above some of the default aircraft and nowheres near Carenado or Aerosoft, let alone Real Air, A2A or Lotus Sim. Lesson learned, wait to see what others report, and not just in official fan mail either.Kind regards,
February 16, 201214 yr Yeah I think the Lancair got the usual very effective Orbx previews and marketing and most of us who love Orbx scenery expected it to be just as amazing as the scenery and considered it an automatic buy and something we would use to explore the scenery. In reality I think it is a fine plane, but like it's real life version the high/fast focus and lack of visibility with the high panel and a-pillar is not the best match for the Orbx low/slow scenery sightseeing that most of us probably do, and I think it's not even a very good match for landing at the short fields I we tend to enjoy in Orbx scenery (I have no luck landing it at Fall City or Concrete)With that said though, I think it is a good quality plane and seems to have done the complex flight model really well, maybe even too well for my beginner virtual pilot skills :( since the fuel weight and cargo weights can have big effect on the handling throughout the flight and makes it a challenge for me to keep it on course without using autopilot. But I think the dev (Jared) has done a great job of supporting it and putting out regular patches and even enhancements without just leaving it to the community to fix big issues like some other similar favorite payware plane publishers that I love seem to do (thank goodness for the two B's).Overall I think the Lancair suffered because of mismatched marketing and expectations, if the marketing had highlighted the high/fast part of the Lancair's typical flight profile, and we customers had waited for reviews, then most of us would have known it was not the type of airplane we enjoy and we would probably have passed on it. For example I did not purchase the Carenado PA46T Jetprop because it has a similar high profile front and high/fast flight profile even though it looks like a terrific plane and I drool at the beautiful glass cockpit.Just my $.02 as a newbie to these bigger/fast planes. February 17, 201214 yr I also deleted the Lancair and have not installed it. I just did NOT like it. I also endorse Bay Tower's RV7 as a fantastic sightseeing plane. I love it!I have all the regions and most of the airports. If I had to choose my favorites in Australia that would be YPEC, YWAVA, YCNK, YSTW, YBCS, YPMQ, YCDR, YSCH, YHBA, YBUD, and YMML. I will always enjoy flying down under.I also really enjoy NZSI.In the PNW, I love 3W5, S43, 1S2, 0S9, 2WA1, KBVS, KORS, and 1WA6. PNW & NRM are amazing regions.I hope that all the negative publicity does not hurt production of NCal. I'm really looking forward to flying in that region. MSFS

February 17, 201214 yr http://www.fsd-international.com nothing to do with Forum subject but the Toucan Turbine is gorgeous. Add in the Oshkosh scenery and fun is on the menu.Scroll down the page to find:- http://fs-mp.com/oshkosh Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
February 17, 201214 yr I own and generally adore:NA PNW Pacific North WestNA PFJ Pacific FjordsNA NRM Northern Rocky MountainsDespite having some niggling performance doubts around the Seattle area (as other folks would expect on a modest system) the FTX guys offer great value for money in terms of coverage and overall enhancement. I hope the southern Alaska package is released sooner rather than later! AVSIM Staff ReviewerBush Is Good!
February 17, 201214 yr As a side note, has anyone wondered, or do they know, why PNW didn't end at the Oregon/Californian state line. Instead there is that piffling little bit of Oregon left undone. Not neat.Just askin' an' all The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
February 28, 201214 yr Just to be technical I don't think we OWN the software we have just bought a license to use it. Anyway all the regions, Lancair (don't fly it much) and a few airports. I think it's 17 orders in all. My dinosaur of a computer hates ORBX airports (not their fault, I love em) even with the sliders hard over to the left. You are technically correct, but ownership feels better and makes it seem of a bit more value. It is like owning a ticket to go see a movie. It is my ticket, maybe its not my movie, but its my ticket nevertheless! :PKind regards,
March 6, 201214 yr I own all of them with the exception of Cushman, Goheen, Harvey Field and Jefferson County.I would have bought them all but I felt they were producing too many PNW airports in an area that I wasn't flying around too much. So I skipped on these last four around the PNW. I tend to fly more in the NRM and Fjords instead of the PNW anyways.Other then that I have all of Australia and Australian airports they've produced and all the regions so far. Australia is perfect for me as they are one hour earlier then New Zealand. So when I get home from work it is possible to do a flight in realtime/real weather in Australia or in the New Zealand South Island.Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
March 6, 201214 yr I've been using their stuff since PNW came out. Also tried the Tasmania demo which drove me to buy PNW.PNW with most of the payware airports other than the most recent and all their freeware offeringsNRM with their freeware airportsCRM which is my home turfLancair which hasn't been out of the hanger for a long time. March 9, 201214 yr So far, I just own Pacific Fjords. I was hoping for a bit more mountain scenery and bush type air strips than I'm finding in that package. Maybe I bought the wrong one for those types of sceneries. Still, it's very well done and nice to look at. Also, I was impressed with the friendly and knowledgeable support I received from Orbx during some initilal issues in getting the scenery downloaded, installed and running. Great bunch of guys over there.Does anyone have some suggestions for backwoods bush airstrips in Pacific Fjords?Dewey
